It's back! Hey everyone and welcome to new season of Design League This season will run a lot like last seasons. Depending on the contest, you will get a 4 weeks, to 6 weeks to create a course, 6-9 holes long. These are meant to be fun and casual, and you do not have to enter each contest. Each contest will have it's own set of requirements, and they are meant to help you grow as a designer, and to try new things! You will notice below this post are comments for each of the upcoming contests. This is where you will find contest requirements specific to that contest, as well as the list of completed entrants, scores and season standings. I will make separate event posts for each event for everyone to post their WIPs and chat about what fun everyone is casually having! Rules
- no file sharing with other designers/players - no seeking out design specific advice (if you have questions, or need clarification on contest requirements that is fine) - no extensions - streaming/WIP pictures are allowed and encouraged! - no starting on the contest course until the contest has been announced - anyone can enter! - zero tolerance for any abuse directed towards other contestants or judges, helpful criticism is completely fine, but anyone crossing the line will not be eligible for future contests - once your course is completed, post in this thread and you will be added that contests roster - you are free to pop in and out of contests as your schedule permits or if you don't like one of the prompts. - THIS IS MEANT TO BE FUN AND CASUAL Judging
- Judging will be made by a judging committee. Just like the contest itself, we want this to be fun and on the lighter side. - There will be a simple rubric of "Technical" "Strategy" "Aesthetics" and "Challange" with a 1-10 score. - I will compile the judging score to make the competition standings and then update season standings spreadsheet. - There will be a 2 week judging window in between contests. *The judging may take longer than this window if required*- I will try and commit to making videos of each entrant to offer things I see to provide feedback (and other streamers want to do the same please do so!)- Every completed entrant will receive points. - THIS IS MEANT TO BE FUN AND CASUAL! Scoring
1st place - 50 points 2nd place - 40 points 3rd place - 35 points 4th place - 30 points 5th place - 25 points Top 10 - 20 points Entrant - 15 points * Scoring will get a 50% boost on Major competitionsNot sure if it's been mentioned yet but the main aim is this is to have a fun, casual, low stress, design/contest experience. Contest #2 - Fair Play - March 29th - April 26th:Contest Challenge:Build 6 (2200 Yard Minimum) strategically sculpted holes with only Fairways and greens. - No Sand or water hazards, no Plants, no rough (or bare earth) patches are permitted inside the perimeter of the course.
- Holes along the outside perimeter can have rough, bare ground or waste bunkers (not manicured bunkers) against it to that single side.
- Plantings, buildings and any other off course items can be along the perimeter sides as well.
Judging:
You will be judged on: - Aesthetics - Technical Execution - Individual Hole Strategy
as well as - How well you sculpt your fairways and greens to influence strategy. This contest is really about sculpting. With no hazards or rough you have to create a strategy on each hole from creative sculpting of the land. Be mindful as well to not overdo it. You will be judged on poor sculpting that makes a green too penal or a fairways surface unnecessarily unplayable. Also do your best to create variety through the six holes in clubs used and types of shots requested of the golfer. Other startegic things to focus on include falter lie vs. slopped lie, best angle into the green slopes vs. one where the slopes make the shot more difficult, blindness vs. visibility, length vs. laying up, ect.. Precedents:There isn’t really a course I know of that does this but some courses with large interconnected fairways to give a play: Instructions:
You may begin now! When you are completed, please comment in in the individual contest post (separate from this one, click the link) and tag me. Please title the course “DL4.2_[Forum name]” when you publish. Greens must have 4 pins. The judging is for 6 holes and 6 holes only. If you make any more holes you will only be judged on the first 6. All courses must be published by April 26th 11 pm PST. I will go by when you post in the forums to check this. HAVE FUN AND BE CASUAL!

Contest #3 - Claustrophobic *MAJOR* - May 10th - June 14th:Contest Challenge:
Build 9 holes (3,000 Yard Minimum) in a rectangle plot of 450x900 yards total. - All playing surfaces must be within the boundary. This included Fairways, Greens, Light Rough, Tee Boxes and Bunkers.
- Heavy Rough and any other planting/water hazards/waste areas are ok to be outside of the rectangle.
- Must find some way to represent the perimeter (or corners) of the rectangle.
Judging:
You will be judged on: - Aesthetics - Technical Execution - Individual Hole Strategy as well as - How well you route within a tightly confined perimeter. We want hole length and strategy variety within this small space. Also, we don’t want to feel so confined by the constraints. The perimeter must be present but not feel like it’s closing you in or very obvious to the golfer; this is the main challenge to you as the designer. Unique and creative hole designs and routing are encouraged but be careful as it’s a fine line between something that's quirky just to be quirky and doesn’t work and something that tweeks the general “rules” for the betterment of the course as a whole. If you are doing something unorthodox make sure there is a purpose to it. We want to encourage realistic routing in these constraints over one that has all sorts of safety or logistical hazards. Precedents:
Full courses with tighter routings to find inspiration from Instructions:
You may begin now! When you are completed please comment in the individual contest post (separate from this one, click the link) and tag myself. Please title the course “DL4.3_[Forum name]” when you publish. Greens must have 4 pins. The judging is for 9 holes and 9 holes only. If you make any more holes you will only be judged on the first 9. This is a Major so the points have a 50% increase. All courses must be published by June 14th 11 pm PST. I will go by when you post in the forums to check this. HAVE FUN AND BE CASUAL!

Contest #5 - NERD! - August 9th - September 6thContest Challange:Build a 6 hole plot (Par 24) that are each creative interpretations of Template Holes. Pick 1 different template as the hole design concept inspiration for each of the 6 holes. The 6 holes should have variety and interest while implimenting the deisgn elements of the Templates in creative ways. Unique concepts within the general strategy of a Template will be looked for by the judges. The overall design strategy of the hole should be faithful to that of the template, but how you achieve that is up to you as the designer. Research:I highly suggest watching b101 's Youtube playlist on Template design strategues to make sure you understand each of them that you are chosing to impliment. You are ALSO allowed to use his "non-template" templates at the end of the playlist for your course if you wish as well. There are a few templates not highlighted here as well but located below on other sites that may be used. Contest #6 - Clean Cut *MAJOR* - June 23rd - November 4thThis is the Final Challange of the season!Contest Challenge:
Build a bunkerless 9 holes (3,200 Yard Minimum) course. Any other types of hazards can be used, but bunkers and waste bunkers aren’t allowed. This includes a beach, so if you wish to be on a coastline the Beach must be out of reach. Judging:
You will be judged on: - Aesthetics - Technical Execution - Individual Hole Strategy as well as - How well you create hole strategy without the use of sand hazards. Variety and strategy are the main items we will be looking for on this final. It is challanging making 9 strategic holes with variety without the most common hazard in use. Different types and length of shots should be required. Strategy should play an important part in how you play the hole and where you go needs to matter without the course being too "tricked up" or punative. Also, that is not asking you to demand perfection on these shots. The challange should be fair but also not a layup. Precedents:Not sure if the middle two are ported. I am too lazy to look but if they aren't I highly suggest firing up 2K21 to check them out. But the first and last one I know are ported for sure. No, there is no sign up and its open to anyone. I will make a new post for each competition with the prompt details. Then when you finish your entry you just post in that thread you've completed it and what the name is (tagging me would be helpful to so I see it).
