Surely if you really are finding high winds in tournament play a recurrent theme (and a problem) - the more tournaments you play, the more you'll learn.
Seems like an easy cop out to just moan about the game to me, sorry. We all play in the same winds so why is it not fair that you don't get to practice in high winds - as I have said, it isn't hard to find courses anyway where double digit winds are common anyway to practice - after all, no-one else does.
Besides which the winds weren't even particularly high in this tournament.

Besides which the winds weren't even particularly high in this tournament. They weren't overly high for Fraxinus...they played havoc in the weeks prior. It's a learning curve..we all realize that. Some say use clicks..well...my controller doesn't click..I didn't buy one with that option I guess. It will all fall in line..just takes some practice. I'll just have to use the tournaments to get that practice. I don't think anyone is "moaning" about the game...we'd just like the option to be able to play in a tornado if that is what we'll be faced with. I realize EVERYONE plays the same conditions. Simple reply is...I don't play EVERYONE..I play the course. Some will be better..some will be worse.

CLICK is usually 2 per mph. +/- depending on club needed What if your controller doesn't "click" I suppose it depends on what you are playing on. I am on XB1 and I use the D pad to move my aiming markers. One click would equal one press of the d pad direction. Not sure if PS4 has a d pad. For PC, I assume it is the keyboard arrows. unlike mnguy, I find one click of the d pad per mph. The general calculation is 150-200% for head wind and the same for direct cross wind. This depends on the loft of the club. For head wind I find I am almost always closer to 200%. I know I have mentioned this to you before (when your response was "I guess I have to print out graphs and flow charts to play the game) but you really need to read the tips and tricks thread and use the spreadsheet found in there created by Doyley. It will help your game out and everything we are discussing right now is in there.

I'm just trying to gain as much knowledge as I can to make the game more enjoyable for myself while remaining a challenge. It's a work in progress. Don't think I don't appreciate all the tips and the directions people have pointed me to and given me, I really do. Just trying to utilize all the info available. I play on PC and have what I would consider to be a XB1 clone controller(Microsoft Controller), I've always used the left stick(I swing with the right stick) to aim and allot for wind, I have recently in the past couple rounds tried tapping the D pad to move the increments, it's a fine line. It really is all about feel and practicing where to set your markers. Again..I thank you and everyone else for the tips, and apologize if it appeared to be just moaning and blaming the game.

I play on PC with a 360 controller and I usually go one line leftbor right if the wind is 10-12 mph blowing directly from the right or left. It seems to work well and any missea are more due to me not swinging well. I can, generally, hit most fairways regularly.

Just what i picked up on the wind guys. I've watched a lot of ghosts the last couple of weeks, some of the better players on xbox one who have been good enough to add me after i added them all seem to combine the click method along with the opposite method using the modifier. I'm trying to use both. Watch ghosts on turn enabled. I find playing with more than 1 ghost on turn enabled is too slow.
If the winds are 15+ or -15 i tend to use the modifier method to negate the effect of the wind. Being able to use both methods i'e the click and the modifier is imperative in order to improve. I tend to use the modifier more off the tee.
Another thing i have realised is to try to keep it in the fairway, avoid making double bogeys, keep the ball in play. If i miss a fairway now i don't try the heroic shot to try to get to the green as from 100 yards in most of the time i can get up and down or make a bogey. Going from rough to rough or bunker to bunker adds a sh%$ load of shots to your card.
Yesterday I found out that we are able to play any tour. In order to get more experience of and time with the wind, play the WEB, PGA or EURO tours if you get time. Make notes if you have to. I guarantee if you put in the time, scores will get better.

I play on mouse and keyboard and have had the game virtually since day 1. Months of trying to get used to the controls, then to drive relatively straight, then to deal with the wind, which is always an unknown, even when your drive or approach is in mid flight.
And, I am not hard of hearing btw!.
If the wind causes problems, which it will inevitably do to most players, then I accept that Mother Nature is there and I practice, practice, practice to overcome a variety of those hurdles.
The wind will differ on every course be it 5 mph or 18 mph and be it a par 3 or a long approach to the green.
I am in CC - E and may let out a whimper now and again, but I accept this is a game in which the wind, the undulations of the fairways and the slopes of the greens will create obstacles, otherwise it would be a dead straight highway with no turns for hundreds of miles.
Even 'Commodore 64 games' had obstacles.
Just practice, enjoy the comradery, and the various challenges of each course. Nothing is a given.
Kind regards to all and good golfing,
oz

There is a wealth of knowledge on the board and I'm just trying take bits and pieces from that and apply it to my game. If I've been annoying while trying to build my arsenal for better game play, I apologize again. My game is getting better since I have adopted the "sponge" approach and I am now trying to absorb all the tips, tricks and tidbits of info. Thanks to everyone for the guidance and the in's and out's of what and when to use inorder to improve.

I saw a post by Doyley around here some time ago about using the click method and stick. Say you use left stick for aim, you would move the stick all the way over, dont hold it there, and then let it go, let it snap back to center, that would be a click. I tried that and it did seem more accurate than trying the d-pad, but I found it very time consuming or rather maybe just hard for me to train myself to do it after using d-pad all the time. My method is still d-pad, say a 10mph right to left crosswind, I go 15 clicks right. I have a natural slice that I cant seem to get rid of. Even on a perfectly straight no wind shot, I have to click left 2-3 times to compensate. So if that was a left to right wind, my 15 clicks, I would add 3 more or so..take my shot and usually hook so bad left that its not even funny, but thats a whole other topic lol This is from Doyleys chart thing docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1aLqTCfuGEoHaUgYP5i6pa6OKMn9GP1p_C_rteWb1s8E/edit#gid=601884872------------------ 5. Aiming - Adjusting for wind, I use a clicks method (think of pushing analog stick (the one you use to aim) to the far left or right and releasing as fast as you can - that is 1 click). For every MPH of wind, I do 1.5 clicks. So for 10mph side wind, I'll aim 15 clicks into it. Then factor in the lie of the ball. If the ball is lower than feet your shot will push, and if ball is higher than stance the shot will pull. This is mostly a feel adjustment - usually a click or two is all that is needed for lie. " -------------------------- I suppose it depends on what you are playing on. I am on XB1 and I use the D pad to move my aiming markers. One click would equal one press of the d pad direction. Not sure if PS4 has a d pad. For PC, I assume it is the keyboard arrows. unlike mnguy, I find one click of the d pad per mph.
