Boooo. So superficial, they should have stopped copying and got their own ideas The irony of this is that pretty much all golf holes in the world are templates or variations of templates. Very true. We keep trying, much easier on a computer game. Unreceptive is the way but then people just class it redan anyway. Any good new templates been created on tgc I wonder? We should try create one

Something different here. What are some of the WORST golf architecture related things you have ever seen? I just came across this thing on twitter... The whole of Burslem Golf Club.

The compact routing at the Donald Ross designed Skokie CC is very impressive. Maximize the land you're given.

The renovated Redan hole at Minnesota Valley CC was done by an ex PGA player and architect named Bill Bergin - a Raynor enthusiast.

The Women's US Open starts today at the Seth Raynor designed CC of Charleston. The first time an original Raynor course has hosted a major. The length and set up of this track should really suit the ladies game down to a tee...

Played this morning with CiB0RG at The Knoll C.C. (West) in New Jersey, a 1929 Charles Banks design. Lots of visually striking holes and cavernous "steamshovel" bunkers and a pretty wild set of greens that I somehow managed zero three putts on. The Biarritz from the tee and from the side: Not sure if this is a template but the green might have been a Maiden? Gigantic thumbprint where the pin was. The Redan. My ball cleared the kicker slope by about 5 yards and went into the back right bunker. Miraculously, I made par.

My ball cleared the kicker slope by about 5 yards and went into the back right bunker. Miraculously, I made par. Very, very nice! Knoll West isn't a course I've really researched before, it's actually not talked about that much compared to Banks's other courses. Looking at those pictures it does seem to be original looking. The Maiden is definitely a template hole as it was taken straight from the sixth hole at St George's, and has been used a fair number of times by Raynor. A maiden green is sort of like a Biarritz but from a side on approach, as though you're playing to a plateau left and and right with chasm in the middle. The original maiden played like this until they switched the tee so that it plays like a Biarritz. So looking at the picture and description you put up I don't think is a Maiden green, possibly a plateau or maybe an original design. Banks created a lot of original holes compared to Macdonald and Raynor. Great pictures though, I hope you both had a good one. 👍
