I’ve just been promoted to Platinum and have probably reached the peak of my TGCT career. I’ll likely pick up demos quickly and be back to Elite but personally I’m fine with it! The journey of constant self improvement certainly is more interesting than the destination. I’d much rather finish 90th in Plat than 1st on CC-A but that’s just how I’m wired. I don’t play TAN every week but it certainly scratches my itch to play on more realistic sim settings. I would be curious to see if some of the top guys could adapt to those settings but based on what I’ve seen from feedback on the major this week let’s just say it seems there is a lot of resistance to difficult conditions/change among the top Plat players. I think the tours and the playerbase are happy for the difficulty to come from the course setup rather than the mechanics. For the top guys at least. I’m one of the biggest mouthpieces for TAN obviously (love it!) and enjoy not just the challenge but the way it challenges you. It’s a bit more grounded. But I can’t stand courses like that in platinum this week. They just aren’t what I play a golf game for. But it certainly is one way to have a challenge for sure and I get the thinking behind it. If the tours are committed to identical settings right the way through those extreme courses are the only way to provide a challenge at the top and whilst I might not like it at all I think by and large most seem to prefer it that way.

I've watched a few streams this week of this weeks major and most are cursing 🤬 moaning about it . The designers are awesome and keep this game going but are told to make daft fantasy courses to try and keep scores down which is fair enough but come on most fairways u couldn't hold , trying to stick to pins with a flat area of 2ft from 200 yards . Silly imo . The only way I think is to up the swing difficulty or perhaps take a few aids off . THEN you can have realistic courses up with toned down conditions. Doesn't have to be like TAN, TAN Doesn't throw up courses like this . I wish we could have a tour like TAN as its ultra true sim . The one they got going at the moment tst is im sorry not true sim as the markers are on it . The season is coming to an end , give it a try change it up before the new game gets announced are the admins scared of change . Come on boys . I know u can't make everybody happy and that's the way of life but there's a chance for a tour to cater for everybody . Fingers crossed 🤞

Fantasy courses? Or just hard tricked up courses?
Really, it is my fantasy to play the real Augusta National. Reality, it ain't happening.

The ones I know pretty well and play with regularly just have a knack for knowing their swings and knowing their misses. Great green reading plays a big part. But I’d say it’s more important to hit fairways, hit greens, and to know the courses, where to play the ball on the green, what misses are manageable and which ones are impossible, and most importantly…..not hitting it in the damn water! (Lol) I am sure this is true, but these skills would be even more emphasized without the aim marker (or with a more difficult swing setting). To me removing the aim marker is akin to when the Tours took away the exact MPH indicator for wind and just left the graphic. It would be nice if we could remove the green grid outside of 50 yards (e.g. the range of the approach and putting cam) or when using the scout cam. Because in golf "aim 10 yards left of the pin" should require some guesswork or picking a spot on the horizon for your target line rather than zooming into the green and counting 10 boxes on an imaginary grid and sliding an imaginary arrow over it.

One of the absolute worst thing about marker only setting for me is that you can manipulate your putt distance which is probably as arcade as it gets. It takes away the skill of distance putting and in theory lets you manipulate that distance which is not golf. Again way too much on the shot set up rather than the execution of the actual golf shot. There is one caveat with marker off, extreme downhill putts you can't see behind the hole with reverse camera but I don't think this problem would even exist with grids on. There are ways around it by changing club and using approach cam but you can't get down as low as I would like. But everything about turning that marker off leads to a such a much better experience for me including it is damn ugly and slam dunk in the middle of the screen.

Would removing the marker actually make a difference? When in scout-cam mode the marker is 100% stationary when looking from directly overhead, and moves up and down a little with perspective (but not much really). So stick a bit of gum on your screen in the right spot and you've got yourself a marker.

I definitely, it's all tied in with vibration which certainly helps with parial shots and putting especially down hill putts . Honestly if u try this way it's actually fun as its quite tricky and takes away all that mathematical way of playing . It's like playing a different difficulty I'm hoping it's in the difficulty settings in nxt game .

I wonder how many of you controller users play without vibration switched on? Along with no marker having that switched off would increase the difficulty of play even at Master level nevermind Legend.

I’ve never used the vibration Dave it’s tied to the aim marker so if that’s not at the right distance your vibration timing will be off anyway. I’ve not used it anyway and never will it’s an aid you don’t need in my opinion my long putts are all feel I only move the marker for the break.

If you’re good on the analogue stick these two and master swing makes it incredibly easy to get tight and imho is the main reason why the courses have to be so extreme and gamey. If you take it off I’d imagine the guys that use vibration still get a rough guide on when to swing but it wouldn’t be AS much of a help.

But doesn't the marker setting in difficulty just toggle the visible marker on and off, and the underlying mechanics are the same? My point was that I don't think the visible marker will make much difference at all for the top players because they can infer where that marker would be at any time. If the underlying mechanics were different so they weren't reliant on the marker at all then yes, I agree with you

Or tbf I might be overestimating it! But - and please don’t take this as bragging or belittling peoples scoring because I think that’s a stupid way to be - you do see a fair old drop off in scores on TAN with the marker off. And that’s on real, grounded courses. And given how easy it is for pro tours players to hit tempo on anything that’s not a stock Xbox controller can only surmise the marker off plays as big (or imo bigger) role than legend swing. Well, marker and grids I guess if some of the guys aren’t used to no-grids stuff.

The only other thing I'd like to see as an on/off option is the ability to manually fade & draw the ball. I've been playing, and only ever play aside from my Kinetic rounds, LEGEND, NO AIDS (i.e. no grid, no marker, no scout cam) and do not use the fade/draw function. I've slowly learnt to use the joystick to swing in/out and out/in to push/pull and adjust tempo fast/slow to draw/fade. It's so very very rewwarding when I can pull it off. This in my mind is as close to the "real thing" we will get. I typically shoot +7 to -5 per round. Such great fun this 2K23 and very much looking forward to 2K25 (??)

Craig / Hendomedes Sorry I'm not familiar with settings used on TAN. Do you have scout cam on or off? Because with scout cam on you could just go to 100% overhead view and adjust the invisible marker (through knowing where it lies on your screen) to the same spot that you would if you could see the marker visually. Then execute the shot exactly the same as you would normally, using the vibration to hit the right power when hitting partials, just as you would normally. A little more fiddly to set up the shot, but exact same shot setup and exact same shot execution. Unless I'm misunderstanding something about the mechanics?

I get what you mean now and you’re absolutely right.
