Design League Season 4, Contest #1

Contest #1 - The Land Called For It - February 8th - March 15th:

Contest Challenge:

Build a 6 hole plot (2400 Yard Minimum) with 1 of the major land features listed, each hole MUST interact with the feature in some way:
Large Rivine/Barranca
Minimums: 20 yards wide, 800 yards long, 25 yards deep
Winding Creek/River
Minimums: Must stretch from one end of plot to another, 5 yards wide minimum
High Hill/Mountain
Minimums: Peak must be at least 100 feet minimum from the lowest point of any of the 6 fairways

Judging:

You will be judged on:
- Aesthetics
- Technical Execution
- Individual Hole Strategy
as well as
- Plot creation of the major land feature and how well you route around and interact with it.

Interaction can be as simple as hitting next to it along one side of a hole to hitting directly over, into or off of the feature. Visual interation, no affect on the hole stratgy, on a hole or two is accepted as well. How it’s used is up to you but what we are looking for is creative and different ways to use the land feature across the 6 holes while maintaining engaging strategy in the hole designs and an overall cohessiveness.
YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE ANY EXTRA CREDIT FOR USING MORE THAN ONE LAND FEATURE.

Instructions:

You may begin now! When you are completed please comment in this thread and tag me. Please title the course “DL4.1_[Forum name]” when you publish. The judging is for 6 holes and 6 holes only. If you make any more holes you will only be judged on the first 6.

All courses must be published by March 15th 11 pm PST. If you don't post in the forum by then I won't know you published.

When you say “title the course DL4.1_forum name” do you mean as the in game name?

I mean when you publish you have to give it a name for me to search. Name it that. Also that way someone can type "DL 4.1" and play them all!

Are you looking for a 6 hole loop (ie start and finish at the same place) or is that unimportant?

That is unimportant. Holes don’t need to be a loop.

Is there any bit of leeway with the 2400 yard minimum for 6 holes?
I have my 6 pretty much as long they will be and it’s 2386 yards

I don't know how you're checking it, but I think the total yardage listed at the top of the screen in the designer lists it in meters and not yards,

2400 is a 400 yard average over 6 holes. You should be able to exceed that very easily.

Under 2 weeks away from the publish date. I hope anybody doing this is doing it casually and having a lot of fun!

How are people doing with this? With two deadlines and the whole forum being breached. I could extend the deadline a week or two if more people would be able to get entries in. Let me know if that would allow anybody currently not able to complete? This is a fun and casual thing!

But I only want to adjust the schedule if anybody that won’t complete currently would be able to.

I’m done mine for the most part. Just a little bit of green sculpting to do. Will be done before deadline👍I think boynsy will need some time, just from looking at his twitch streams

I’m trying my best to get done in time but deadlines are not a strong point. Unfortunately I’m away this weekend too so I’m not sure how likely I am to be done by Wednesday, but I’ll reassess tomorrow evening. My only concern with extending the deadline just means I wait even longer before cracking on with my CC course properly!
