I've made my way through the front 9. I'll see if I can get a beta out tonight, but it might be tomorrow.
Not much has changed on the front 9, just working on pin and tee combos. Two holes have been tweaked, though, which I'll highlight here.
3rd
I changed the design of the layup zone bunker just slightly. The biggest change, however, is the addition of more fairway all along the left side. I've always been hesitant to add more fairway on the left, because that's the best angle back uphill into the green. After experimenting with a bit, my tune changed. I've found that a shot into that area generally will get tucked in right behind the bunker. For the Sunday pin, this means you have to go right over the bunker, then stop the ball quickly, or you will have that nasty downhill putt. For the other two front pins, the front of the green is on a diagonal to you, so you have to pick the right line and distance without going short off the front edge, or too long for a downhill putt. The only easy shot from there is to the back pin. That's not to say the good players can't pull it off frequently, but I found it more challenging than expected, at the very least.
8th
I redesigned the fairway bunker to match 1934 more, and to differentiate from anything that is sort of iconic or recognizable from the modern course. I kind of thought that the bunker on the 1st, this one, and the 10th were sort of the last "Mackenzie" bunkers left on the course, but after digging into the historic diagrams a little more, none of those bunkers are actually very close to the originals, so they are all getting a makeover. Only 10 is left to do.
The angle of the bunker is slightly changed, and I sculpted the right side landing zone to be very risky.
On the left I took out some trees in front of the green, as that was originally wide open. I deepened the left side valley just slightly. Basically I'm trying to encourage shots that flirt with those front mounds, and maybe cause some more short game blunders.
I added a little more green surface on the back right to try and tuck the pin a little more, and I added mounding in that area to mimic the 1934 look. That could be helpful if coming from the left, but will be a huge block for shots from the right.
