The Round 2 leaderboard - Jack Nicklaus and Tony Jacklin are tied for the lead, but both Mark Allison and Hans Kunok are well placed to make a weekend charge. Bob Fletcher's poor second round has knocked him back to the middle of the field, while Charlie Roberts and Ian McKinley are having a tournament to forget.
After carding an impressive first round 66, and possibly in with a chance of winning this week, Terry Baldwin appears to have withdrawn from both this event and the tour because of personal reasons. We wish Terry luck finding a society that will cater for his needs...

The Round 3 leaderboard - Jack Nicklaus now leads on his own, but Hans Kunok is positioned menacingly only 2 strokes adrift of the great man and looks poised to mount a final day challenge. Bob Fletcher recovered from his disappointing second round and may be in line for a decent pay-day if he can survive the last round, while Mark Allison had a bad day at the office and will be left just trying to maximise his earnings in Round 4...

The 1970 San Diego Open has been won by HANS KUNOK!!
While greats Jack Nicklaus and Tony Jacklin struggled in the final round, Hans breezed past them to capture the title courtesy of a fine 66 to finish four strokes clear of Jacklin and Pete Brown. Brown and Nicklaus recorded the best rounds of the event, a couple of 65's, Nicklaus in the opening round and Brown in the closing round. Our other 'guest' players suffered mixed fortunes - Bob Fletcher finished in a respectable tie for 19th place, while everyone else ended the week in the lower reaches of the leaderboard and will, no doubt, be glad to move on to the next tournament. This is our fourth different event winner in as many tourneys - will there be a fifth at Lahontan...?!

Event number 5 in the 1970 season, the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, and here is the Round 1 leaderboard. Charlie Roberts and Mark Allison have stated their intentions straight away as they sit on top of the leaderboard. But can they maintain their impressive form for the remainder of the tournament...?!

The Round 2 leaderboard - as far as I can ascertain. Larry Ziegler has taken over the reins at the top, after Charlie Roberts and Mark Allison both struggled in the gale-force winds. Bob Fletcher and Les Souter are well-placed in a tie for 7th with three of the old professionals, while Ian McKinley appears to be still battling with his swing problems. Terry Baldwin's caddie brought the correct set of clubs for this round - and it showed! Terry improved on his opening round score by ten strokes, propelling him from the bottom and up the leaderboard, and further progress is anticipated...

The Round 3 leaderboard - and Mark Allison's stunning 64 has promoted him to pole position with one round left to play. Larry Ziegler lurks just one stroke behind Mark, with Charlie Roberts a further two shots back. There is a group of four players four strokes off the lead so still in contention - old PGA professional Bruce Devlin, and guests Juan Aetee, Les Souter and last week's winner Hans Kunok, who produced the round of the tournament so far, a sizzling 63.

Our fifth event, the 1970 BOB HOPE CHRYSLER CLASSIC, and we have a fifth different winner!! Many congratulations to LES SOUTER, whose final round 63 gave him a four-stroke victory over his nearest rival, Bob Fletcher, who at one time looked as if he may overhaul Les's winning total but whose challenge faded on the back nine on the final day. Larry Ziegler claimed third spot, just ahead of a group of 'guest' players. Les's 63 was the equal best of the tournament, Hans Kunok having also carded the same score in Round 3. Our next stop is the Arizona desert and the Scottsdale National Golf Club for the 1970 Tucson Open. Thanks to those who played - we hope to see you all in Arizona!

It's Event 6, the Tucson Open, hosted by the Scottsdale National Golf Club. The Round 1 leaderboard - The desert wind is blowing strong and last week's winner, Les Souter, has made a great start and leads the field. Can he maintain his rich vein of form and become the season's first player to win two events?

The Round 2 leaderboard from the Arizona desert - and our first round leader, Les Souter, still heads the field but has had his lead cut from two to just one stroke. Les's nearest 'guest' rival is Mark Allison who has a deficit of six shots to make up. Terry Baldwin, Bob Fletcher and Carl Bishop all found the terrible conditions too much for them and their positions suffered as a result, but there's plenty more golf to be played yet...

The Round 3 leaderboard - Les Souter still has a one-stroke lead, but now he has two players on his shoulder, Bob Murphy and Lee Trevino. Can he hold them off on the final day to win his second event of the 1970 season? The next best-placed 'guest' player is Terry Baldwin who, whilst still under par, is some distance back in a tie for 27th spot. Mark Allison and Ian McKinley are locked in an eight-player tie on level par, while Bob Fletcher remains on +3 after his even par 72 today.

We have our first double-event winner!! LES SOUTER's wire-to-wire victory at Scottsdale National was his second successive win and, with just four events left in the first part of the 1970 season, he is the new favourite to win the Winter Trophy! A late surge from Charlie Roberts still left a 5-stroke gap between him and Les, while Juan Aetee, Terry Baldwin, Ian McKinley and Mark Allison all did well to finish under par for the week. A few players recorded rounds of 64, the best of the tourney - Les Souter, Juan Aetee and Hans Kunok (all in Round 1), and PGA Tour professional John Lotz in Round 2. The updated Money Table will be posted later... The PLAYPGATOUR circus now moves on to Texas for the next event, so hope to see you all there and thanks for playing!

The Round 1 leaderboard from the San Antonio Texas Open - and Les Souter, winner of the last two events, has not had the best of starts. Mark Allison put together an impressive round to lead by two strokes from another 'guest' player, Ian McKinley, and PGA Tour professional Rod Funseth. Terry Baldwin and Bob Fletcher also made good starts, and they are in a tie for 4th spot, just three shots behind the leader.
