Decided it was time to take on an iconic course as couldn't find a good version on the game. I will plant and finish the entire 27 hole plot which will then allow me to release the members course as well as the various Championship routings that are used for the big events. At this stage I am working on the routing they use for USGA events in the past and will therefore present the course in a US Open fashion with small collars of light rough and thicker grass greenside. This won't be a short venture as I'll be going into as much detail as the meter will allow me but at least starting this WIP thread will keep me accountable to at least get it finished by the 2022 US Open haha! Not much work done so far except I've imported the course and marked out the location of all trees and wooded areas, I'm just re-laying the tee boxes currently, smoothing them and also re-scuplting the bunkers where required and also re-aligning the fairways particularly on the approach to get good transitions. It's painstaking work but I hate to see sloppy LiDAR courses that are rushed out so I'm taking my time to get this bang on.

Also have discovered that the slopes on these greens are ridiculous!! I've put the speed on maximum so I can find the flat spots for pins but some greens are literally only Orange and red slopes! this is fairly common with older courses as they were designed at a time when 7 on the stimpmeter was deemed quick so there wasn't the danger of balls rolling off the green. This might mean I have to gently massage a couple of areas with the fuzzy blue brush just to make sure we can get all 4 pins on the greens. I'll also probably release this with slightly slower greens and with a warning that 187 speed will be utter carnage

One of my favorite parts of doing a lidar is looking at a fresh import and seeing how the land moves. It can be harder to appreciate with all of the planting on top. Look forward to seeing this project progress.

This looks excellent.
Where are you getting your LIDAR for Massachusetts? I would like to take a crack at Worcester CC (first Ryder cup), Eastward Ho and Old sandwich

I would like to take a crack at Worcester CC (first Ryder cup), Eastward Ho and Old sandwich I just got it from the usual site, TNM I think? If you search TGC Tools on google, there’s a link to Chad’s tutorial, this was the first US course I looked at so followed those steps to access the LiDAR. It seems Massachusetts did a LiDAR project in 2015 so you should get what you’re looking for easy enough. Hope that helps

Still tidying up the course before I move onto buildings, then perimeter fencing, then planting trees and grass; Full View of the plot The approach on 13, looks a horrible mound in the fairway that kicks the ball towards the water! Here's the 12th green, 13th tee and 14th green complex - 12 and 14 are very long par 5's with horrible greens Here's the view back down 9, arguably the signature hole once rock faces have been added, heard a rumour this will be a par 4 in the next US Open in 2022; Here's the 120 yard hole that is ommitted from this layout but will feature in the 2022 US Open, I think Gill Hanse is doing some work with restoring the green prior to then so will wait and see what occurs but you can play the original hole when I release the members course after the championship layout; Anyway, that's all for this update - I've got sh%$ loads of spline aligning to do so I'll bid you farewell!

I've finally done the painstaking tidying up of the course and decided to "eat the frog" and start on Brookline's many unique buildings, the yellow clubhouse. Unfortunately the game only has one yellow building so I've done the best I can but I've still had to use artistic license where necessary just to get it looking vaguely right;

Been busy today completing the vast facilities at Brookline, I'm not going to go into full detail just yet as I'm a little concerned about how much memory I've already used on Buildings alone (38%....) so if I have some memory and object meter left at the end then I'll start adding full detail to the car parks etc. Right now I think it's most important to get the direct playing area absolutely spot on and smash the detail there instead. Anyway, here's the facilities; This week I'm hoping to start completing the holes with trees one by one and adding nessecary background detail as I go, I'll then go back around each hole with fescue grass once I know how much object meter I have left after all trees are done.
