Where does this leave TGCTours if some PC players can change router settings to elimate random shot variation while those on consoles cannot? TGCTours has come down hard on straight shooting controllers in the name of fairness, is this any different? If PC players could install a mod that gave 0 wind all the time would that be addressed?
My router is built into my cable modem so I dont even know if I have access to settings. I am on Xbox. If there isn't a solution to stop/minimize ball squirt on consoles will this mean the playing field needs to be separated? I would like to hear from staff on this because it is already having an effect on current tournaments.
I went over to the HBS forums and couldn't find a discussion on this topic. Has this info and the PC fix been communicated to devs and the community? This could have very heavy implications for the health of the game or am I overplaying it considering I never even noticed this phenonema until it came to light here.

Unfortunately this fix did not work for me.. Ball squirt is bad as ever.. I just finished my last 2 rounds on the WGC tourney.. and only managed to hit 21 of 36 greens thanx to ball squirt in pretty calm winds ranging between 5 and 10mph

I think it has something to do with strength and consistency of your connection, I know my connection has never been good here. I also punched the hole in my firewall.

Well you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him google how to access his router.
However are you not the same person who made these posts:
Answer: Not good enough to tell if it was user error or programming error. Not trying to be funny, I just figure when a seemingly straight shot goes astray that I misread my left/right sidehill lie in combination with wind read error and being slightly off a perfect straight white line. If it is a random programming error, I'm good with it because "that's golf" and people are shooting lights out despite.
I dont want to get involved in this discussion because there is a little air of ill wind hovering...but I will say this, if there is a random random dispersion then sometimes that random dispersion would mean there is no dispersion. In fact they could have it set where no dispersion comes up more often than some dispersion so it therefore wouldn't be fully random dispersion. That could explain a run of no dispersion happening but also the occassional run of some dispersion. I may have to reread what I just wrote to see if that all even makes sense!
The thing with randomness is that while you may get some bad breaks at inopportune times and the other fellow get some lucky breaks...it does standarize over time. There is a tendancy for people to act like the wind is always in their face on par 5's or that squirts are happening to them more than others, the bigger likelehood is that those times stand out more than when things are going your way. It would take some real data crunching over quite a few rounds to prove there is a flaw in random dispersion that is stacking the odds against certain users (or other factors). If it is happening to everyone equally and the scores are still what they are, I would hate to think how this game would turn into Garts (golf/darts hybrid) if dispersion was removed.
I think this wraps up the ball squirt discussions.
So do you see it now or not, do you want help with your router, or just want every PC player banned.?

Steve, I have seen anomolies while playing but until this thread I just figured it was some user error on my part. Now 13 pages after my 1st post it would be silly for me to not realize that what I thought was some unknown user error or built-in randomness is not exactly what you have discovered.
I am not calling for any banning as I am not the rules committee here. I am simply asking the question of how this turn of events will be addressed in order to maintain fairness. Question for you, if there is no solution for ball squirting for console users found do you believe the issue is minor enough that console users can still shoot as low as PC users who have eliminated ball squirting? Or would random 20-30 yard squirts left/right have a meaningful effect of scoring in comparison to those no longer having that occur?
Again, I am simply asking questions and with you being the world expert on this I very much value your opinion. Thanks!
Edit: Oh and yes I would very much like help with my modem/router. I googled it and appearently it uses a static IP so I am thinking I would have to add a 2nd router (the first is built in to the modem) in order to do port forwarding. I am clueless when it comes to this stuff so I welcome an expert to help!

The day I feel I have to dig into my router config in order to be competitive at a videogame is the day I go play something else.

I think i will just struggle along playing my average golf for now. I have not got a clue about all that kind of stuff. Also a bit weary that if i fix this problem it might break something else. The last thing i want is to much dispertion of bullets on call of duty or the ball on fifa.

Do you think this fix would help with the less than 100% swing "bug" that a lot of people ( me included ) see every round. For me personally, this is more of an issue than the "ball squirt". Not to downplay the squirt, I simply notice the 94% swing more. Play on PS4 only, willing to try the fix but very ignorant with modem settings. My setup is similar to others, its a one piece modem/router provided by the internet company.

That has a huge impact on the 9x% swings as well as overall performance. They still happen but far less often.

Thank you Schatuk, yes I have that disabled from the first day it was available. The loss of power has gotten worse over the last two weeks mostly. Prior to that it wasn't as bad. Disabling fov seems to have improved the framerate on some courses.

I think this is all in your heads :-) You guys are the bosses as far as I'm concerned, if you say stop, I will stop posting my research and possible fixes in these forums.
Just say the word, continue or stop.?

I am clueless when it comes to this stuff so I welcome an expert to help! World expert I'm not, time will tell whether or not this gives anyone or anything, anything at all. I have a crappy connection, always have, I live in rural setting just outside a large metropolis, so no one want to run me wires, I still get ball squirts. But where it was massive has reduced to little. Truthfully I think I have reduced mine to about what everybody else would consider normal.
I'm not clear everyone is squirting now. Truthfully I highly doubt they are. With or without the fix. Myself and taste and many others were squirting enough to throw us off the green into ponds, bunkers, deep rough, forest etc etc 4 or 5 and more shots per round, most rounds. I believe it directly related to connection to steam.
So truthfully, I don't believe this is a magic pill giving PC players an advantage. I believe it will bring people with not so strong connections, who were massively squirting, back to the majority of the field. So if anything some players will come back to closer the same level as many players.
I think everyone's interpretation of fixed and broken is what's causing some concern right now. I know I'm certainly not stiffing every shot, I doubt Tastegw is either, or anyone else who applies the workaround, but I'm not shooting 30 yards offline into the water either. That to me is good enough. I'll take that.
On to your router I'm not asking to make major changes, just allow your device to freely communicate through the firewall. Static IP or not, it does not matter, it will have a firewall, it will have settings allowing devices to communicate freely through the firewall. For me it was as simple as selecting my pc from a list and clicking save in the firewall settings and entering my password.
Getting into the router settings, if you have never been in before is bonus, because then the default passwords will likely still be set.
First google getting into your specific router settings. Look around in those settings for firewall settings. Look to see if you cannot allow your device to to commincate back and forth through the firewall and google the default password while you are at it.
And if you are not massively squirting now, or don't notice anything out of the ordinary, I truly believe you need do nothing.
