If I was only allowed to choose one Donald Ross course to play in real life it would be Beverly CC. One of the main reasons I based my upcoming CC contest course on this place ( with a mix of Skokie)

Really enjoying this series. Your most recent video on the Biarritz was really really good. Having attempted only one Biarritz I found your video really insightful. It seems like a lot of courses have converted their Biarritz greens into a Fairway front portion and keeping the green behind the swale.

I saw a comment on the Biarritz video that simply read "delete this" earlier. Had me laughing a little... but only a little because I dont hate Biarritz greens much haha

I love the uniqueness, even if contrived... I love the thought and the risk (in real life) of that tough swale putt.... But I'm also a huge fan of some of the contrived things Raynor and Macdonald did (re: massive punchbowls etc)... I don't necessarily believe that a golf hole has to be or feel entirely natural. What Andy Staples accomplished at Meadowbrook CC in MI shows that natural and contrived, when done well are 100% cohesive.

That said... spectator mounding on some tour courses might be one of the biggest eyesore in golf, IMO. (Unless it's natural ) Biarritz greens get too much hate. They are just green complexes after all

But it DOES take away from the experience in ways I can't forgive. I'm fine with architects moving dirt, contriving lies and angles, whatever fine, but at least your still out experiencing the course. To me spectator crowds take you out of the golf and put you into some arena. Golf isn't meant to be be in an arena. Or even feel that way in the slightest.... Absolutely hate it. And hate watching it.
