Thanks for all the time spent judging and giving feedback. I take solace from the fact that the standard was so high and that a 5% improvement would have moved me from 17th into the Top 10. Now I just got to find that extra 5% for my next course!

Honestly really liked 10 at yours, Cullen. Thanks. I’m thinking the judge who didn’t like it was playing it with player clubs. Admittedly I didn’t test those. I pretty much design courses with tour clubs in mind.

I pretty much design courses with tour clubs in mind. Was reachable for me w/ player clubs from the tips. Though it was pucker-inducing to be sure. There were some short 4s in this comp that worked, some that didn't. In general, here's what im looking for a good short 4 from a strategic standpoint: 1. There's got to be a smart way to play the hole that leaves a sensible full shot (notice I didn't necessarily say pitch) in that should get you a decent look at 3 and set up 4 at worse, barring poor execution from the player. 2. A heroic element that brings 2 into play, at worse 3, if you execute the shot, but brings big trouble into play if you get it wrong. The kicker is pulling it all together visually in away that's appealing to the player off the tee while making the challenges and choices of the hole apparent.

Not all of them might have paid off, but they didn't go unnoticed. Refine your technique just a little bit while staying big & bold w/ your style and I think you'll knock one out of the park.

Positions 9-5 now posted. All excellent course here. Hat's off to these designers and hat's off to the four course that have not yet come off the board, all of which were instant classics, IMO. Results: Positions 9-5

Wow, I really did pick the top 4 spot on haha. I’ve been putting them in no order up until now, but this is the order I have those in:
4. Hellenic Republic
3. I can’t spell it.... Iceland lol
2. Corozal
1. Silverback
And there’s literally nearly no margin between those for me. Seriously guys... impeccable work this contest. Lots of excellent courses came out of it!

Thanks Griff and judges for all your work. Really happy for my top ten. Next time I will pay you more try to balance my "deduction points" to sneak a bit higher in the ranking.
Great work fellas

I think a very strong argument can be made for any of those four courses coming out on top. As as to if you have those in the correct order, I guess you are going to tune into TGCT After Dark tomorrow night at 9 p.m. eastern (8 central)

First and foremost, a huge thank you to @griff and the crew for facilitating, organizing, and judging this contest. These are a lot of work, especially with such a deeply talented field, and yet the structure and feedback remains first-class! Awesome job guys!
I mean this in all sincerity... I am genuinely thrilled with where I finished and I’m stoked to be in the top 10. I have absolutely no questions, concerns, or issues with finishing 7th among this group, and like others have already said, I’m not surprised at the top 4 and I’m intrigued as to what order they’ll finish.
I’m excited about the aspects of my course that the judges liked, and I’m really glad they liked hole 18. In my opinion it’s one of the best holes I have ever designed.
I actually agree with the judges on the negatives and points lost areas. It is true that a player opening this course without knowing it was a National Treasure course would see nothing that indicates Russia other than an old concrete commie-block city, the red and yellow flowers, the usage of steel fencing, the pairs of swans, and the tee markers being in the order of the current flag. My usage of objects to make the course “Russian” wasn’t very good, and I figured that might be a lost opportunity (although the object pallet kinda sucks... I mean, I was going to hide bears in some of the planted areas and there are NO bears in the mammal section. C’mon!). Haha
The way I chose to make this course “Russian” was through creative symbolism and artistic interpretation (most of it explained in the course description in the Completed Courses thread). Unfortunately, it was a lot of those elements, like narrow fairways, forced lines, exaggerated greens, severely punishing misses, etc. that the judges didn’t like. But again, I actually agree with them from a course design standpoint, and I’ve even heard feedback from some folks who didn’t know anything about this being a contest course and those were elements that they didn’t like either. Ultimately, those were artistic decisions that I made specifically for this course, but I don’t think the risk paid off.
I absolutely love the challenge of the DCS! It’s fun to attack a course design from so many creative angles. I look forward to participating in the next one! Thanks again Griff!

I’m pretty sure the judges didn’t agree on the order of the top 4... so I can’t wait to see who ended up winning tomorrow!
