I knew this course would bring me back down to earth. If Doak Valley was a difficulty of 4/10, Ballyntyne National has to be close to a 10/10. I told Jared before I played that I'd be pretty happy with an overall -15 but ecstatic with a -20 or better.
Ended up with a -14. Can't really complain about that because I averaged about a -4 in all my practice rounds.
I think I had 4 three-putts and maybe 7 bogeys across all rounds. Not the cleanest, but I think it will be safe enough a score not to get cut. The vast majority of my holes were 2 putts. One putt birdies were so rare! Even if I landed 7 feet away from the pin, the greens were hard enough to read that I probably missed it. Maybe I should try the no aids golf tour to get better at reading greens.
Good luck to everyone on the first tournament of Season 2!

It's a golden oldie this week. A tough inaugural event has been picked to shock you back into reality and say welcome to the web, you're no longer on the easy Challenge Circuit! Cream will rise to the top. Good luck out there.

I don't remember specifics, but mostly dingle digits. Double digits never last for long.

That was a really frustrating tournament. Missed putt after missed putt, even when I was really close. Grind grind grind out there. Lie angle is huge this week and I had a ton of ball squirt as well. All this added up to a serious challenge. Didn't do anything absurd but the good putters will obviously win this week. -7,-4,-3,-2 for -16 total. Each round I felt a little more nervous and defeated. Ballantyne kicked my butt

Ballantyne kicked my butt Lie angle was something so hard to read on this course. Even with relatively low winds for 80% of the holes, hole approaches were often in the double digit feet range. I actually felt very happy with a number of my two putts on this course. The entire time I played the course I kept thinking, "OK, we made it to the big leagues now. No more Mickey Mouse greens." Made me feel a little better about my non arcade like scorecard. Very nice -16! I'm fairly certain that the -7, -4 start will put you in the top 25 after 2 rounds. I went -4, -4, -1 (only because I birdied that 18th hole for like the first time ever), -5. Hopefully the -8 across the first two will be enough to make cut. Not going to win a lot of money with the -14 overall, but a few thousand wouldn't hurt!

Cream will rise to the top. Good luck out there. You can say that again! And... golden oldie? I tried to search for whether this course has been played before and couldn't find it. Has it been used in a TGCT tournament in the first season?

Ok, I tried to answer my own question and couldn't. I did, however, find this on google: Ballyntyne National Course Guide: jsowens1.wix.com/bngc#!course-guide/czpx I wonder if it would have helped me!

For those of you web.com'ers from season 1, how do you feel about the difficulty of this season 2 week 1 course compared to that of the last month of tournament course from season 1?
I think I played the last four web.com tournaments for fun (without having ever seen the courses before) and scored better than -30 on more than one occasion. I don't remember most of those courses being as difficult as Ballyntyne National. Is it, like Luke mentioned, a tough inaugural event that's meant to extra difficult? Or was it more that season one ended with a couple of easier than normal courses?

Consider that it is a par 70 with only two par 5s. That is on average 1.5 strokes per round or 6 strokes per event (Just a general estimate) for this week. I would say it is also a harder course than the four Web.com Finals events from last season, as well.

It's a golden oldie because it's over a year old I believe.
Also, I've been put in charge of picking the web courses for this season and yes it was indeed meant to be a tougher than normal venue to test and shock you new guys into system.
There will be harder courses for you up on web compared to CC but don't worry there will be birdie fests here and there for the guys and girls that like those kind of courses.
I was looking originally at starting with Ballyntyne, Oktoberfest and then Persimmon but realised they all leaned on the harder side so Red October (a unique course that may split opinions) and Harvest Hills got put in between for a little bit of restbite.
The web will be made up of a bunch of fresh faces so will be interesting to see your feedback and how you fare and then I can make future course choices based on that.

Only 36 entrants this week?!? Once the top 100+ in the CC Championship are processed tomorrow the number will go up about that 100 amount. Most of this tour now are inactives.

Yeah I'm waiting for official confirmation I'm on the Web Tour before diving in! I know I'm in but want to see it as official as I've only been playing a few weeks.

Well then, it proved a little difficult, but I loved the course. I went -4, -1, +2, -6 for a -9 total. That 3rd round I am not sure what I was doing. Oh well, a good first Web tourney I guess.
