The Ultra Sim Cult of Pain begins its season on PC tomorrow! The society is private and by applying to join you are effectively signing the following statement: "I confirm that I have balls of steel / an iron muff (*select according to gender) who wants to try a true golf sim experience, and I will adhere to the house rules of no loft box, no follow cam and no ghost ball. I come into the society with the expectation that par is a great score and birdies are truly exceptional, and if I decide the setup is not for me, I will simply not play rather than whining."Before I specify the settings and house rules in detail, here's a couple of vids of me testing out these hardcore settings just to provide some tips and to show that it's absolutely playable and moreover adds an incredible dimension of realism to the game: So, the rules are: - no green grids - no loft box use (distance control via shortened backswing or tempo manipulation) - UPDATE: this now includes, as of Week 2, not using the loft box for draw/fade, you should only use fast/slow downswing tempos to create left/right curves in this society - no putting marker - no precise wind measurement - no follow cam (so you're really seeing the ball as you would if you were playing, plus you don't get clues about green breaks after your approach shot rolls on the green) - no scout cam, overhead camera only (courses will only be selected if they have straightforward sightlines) - putter cam only for viewing green breaks from different angles or when around the green (e.g. greenside bunker, you would be able to look round the green IRL in such a scenario) NB I tried playing without line & tempo feedback but on balance I think it's better to have it on, given that you're going to need to get to grips with 90/95/fast backswings to control distance with no loft box. From the above, loft box and follow cam do not exist as adjustable settings for societies, so we have to rely on the good faith of members to adhere to these rules. I'm guessing if you're interested in this type of sim mode experience then you're not going to be sneaky and try to get an unfair advantage by using the loft box or follow cam. The provisional schedule thus far is as follows (I will test all courses and adjust settings if need be to make sure there's nothing tricked up that makes ultra sim mode too frustrating to play): Week 1: The 'Let the Pain Begin' Championship @ Sawgrass--- Week 2: The 'Fritzl Dungeon Experience' Championship @ Old Course, St. Andrews--- Week 3: The 'Yankee Doodle Waterboarding' Championship @ Pebble Beach--- Week 4: The 'Tie me up and Choke Me' Championship @ Augusta 18--- Week 5: The 'Existence is Suffering' Championship @ East Lake--- Week 6: The 'They ask you how are you are and you have to say that you're fine, but you're not really fine, but you can't get into it because they would never understand" Championship @ ValhallaBtw if any PS4/XB1 players are interested in replicating this society please let me know! I doubt there'll be much demand for this masochistic setup but you never know...---UPDATE: See post 8 below for a tutorial video on how to control distances without the loft box

Do private societies work on pc? Smiffy had all sorts of problems trying to set up one on PS4 where players were stuck in limbo and couldn't be approved. Ended up having to make it public for the time being until it's patched.

Interesting, no idea tbh it's my first society - someone recommended that I make it private but sounds like it's more trouble than it's worth so I'll just make it open.

Figured I'd give you a heads up as I think some that tried joining when it was private still can't join now it's public.

Whoop! Btw I've just done a very quick tutorial showing how you can control distance perfectly well (to within a reasonable margin of error at least) without the loft box, it just takes timing skill and is dependent on your swing rather than pre-programming your dial-a-distance number, but as you see I got them right first time in this vid, I'm reasonably comfortable timing these backswings now:

Also can we use putter cam just off the green or from blind bunker shots? as you would be able to walk around the green to check where to land the ball irl

I am assuming we can play draw and fade pre shot larry ? Yep draw & fade via the loft box is fine, I toyed with the idea of requiring using tempo only for draw/fade but given the new distance impacts of fast & slow downswing tempo, it makes things unreasonably difficult even for a self-proclaimed masochists' society! Also can we use putter cam just off the green or from blind bunker shots? as you would be able to walk around the green to check where to land the ball irl Yes that's fine, the idea is for putter/approach cam to be on for when you're around the green, only follow and scout cams are to be turned off as they give you unrealistically helpful info from a distance.

I don't use the shot feedback meter so this should be really interesting. I'll try it out.
