Finished 3 back of Big Smooth. Very happy with that result.

I was very happy to see my -13 at Troon hold on for the victory. I'm not sure I'll see that again, or my name at the top of the points standings again, so I will savor them for now.
I came nowhere near that at Kiawah, so I'll be back to lurking in 3rd place of the points list soon.

Couldnt quite match the Smooth one, but pleased with a -14 in my first round in 9 days, even threw in a bogey.
Did everyone else have 15mph plus winds all the way?
Stood on the first tee blowing 18mph, i thought, wa hey this will be fun.

Yes, I turned off the wind reading but it was blowing out there for sure.

A hole in one, 4 eagles, 6 birdies...finishes 3 back of the lead

So on today's I started with a bogey, got all the way down to -7 through 13, then proceeded to lip out a par from 7 feet on 14, miss a birdie from 9 feet on 15, lip out a birdie from 38 feet on 16, miss a birdie from 13 feet on 17, and catch the lip of the bunker I ended up in after my drive on 18. Went +2 over the last 5.

I've been debating internally what to do over Labor Day weekend, since I will be gone Friday-Tuesday. I didn't want to introduce a new course, since the point of the society is kind of to get me to play and review new courses, so I decided on a 2-round, 4-day event at a favorite course that I've already played. Of my top courses so far, I guessed that The Sandbelt would be one of the lesser played ones, so that's what I went with.
I have another absence coming up in a few weekends, so I'll likely come up with another replacement event for that one, depending on how this one goes.

It looks like the miacanes12 flyby at Glenelg vaulted me back into the points lead. I also took an early 2 shot lead at Sunningdale last night, although I wouldn't expect that to last. Speaking of, I enjoy Sunningdale immensely, but maybe wouldn't have used it had a known it received no TGC2 attention other than tournament crowds. I thought it still played well though, if only because the real course is so good. Thinking of an RCR major event late in September. Since Magnolia was used in the DHOF, and we already played St Andrews, my next oldest RCR in terms of release date is Oakmont. There are plenty of RCR's on my list that I haven't gotten to yet, so I'm also open to any suggestions. I would just exclude these, which I've already played and reviewed: Pebble, Birkdale, Whistling Straits and Firestone.

My eagle putt on the first hole today ended up about 3 inches away on the opposite side of the hole. Lipped out for birdie on the second hole. Burned the edge on the third hole, again for birdie. Lipped out for birdie from 3 feet on the 4th hole. FINALLY had a one-putt on the 5th hole, and the ball did a good 180 before going in, which I immediately gave back by 3-putting on the 6th. Lipped out from 10 feet for birdie on 9. Burned the edge from 14 feet for birdie on 10. Missed a 14 foot birdie on 12. Missed a 10 footer for birdie on 16, a 17 footer for birdie on 17, and a long birdie put on 18.
Finished up with a -7 63 where I only missed one GIR, and that was on the fringe and pretty close to the hole. 1.72 putts per hole. Only 1-putted one in 3 attempts.
Honestly, why can't I putt? I can hit the damn thing straight most of the time.

Putting baffles me a lot of times, too, although there is no change there from TGC1 to TGC2. Sometimes I can regularly pour them in from 20+ feet, and sometimes I can't make even the simplest 7 footers. It's like there are some combinations of speed and break that suit my eye, and some that I am terrible at. I think it's really the courses with just subtle breaks that kill me. I regularly play too much break, and after finally slowly adjusting to compensate, all it takes is one underplayed break to set me back to overplaying again.

Even worse today, 1.78 putts per hole. Think I had like 4 3-putts (one was from 7 feet). Ended up with a -4 because I did at least hit every fairway and all but 2 greens.
