Just...just...ugh... As a footnote - thought this course played much better in tgc2 than I remembered. I vividly recall a few rage rounds on this in tgc1 but really quite enjoyed this round (aside from that snowman).

This was 1 of 2 back to back events tonight that I had an eagle putt on 18 for the tie the leader but missed. Missed some opportunities early that really cost me.

Boy, what an awful start today. 3 perfect practice shots on the first tee and I slice one into the trees. Eagle putt on 2 runs all the way off the green and I only make par after perfectly placing my 350 yard drive in the middle of the fairway. Miss a 8-9 foot putt for birdie on 3 after slicing a pitch. Rolled backwards off the green into the trap on 4. Was 33 yards from the pin on 7, had a slow downswing on a flop to go in the bunker, then a fast downswing to send the ball way over the green. 3 putted from 10 feet on 9.
I've played this course a lot of times from the tips over the last week. I'm almost always at -5 or better after the front 9 (the back 9 tends to give me problems). Today, from the front tees, I was even at the turn.

Back 9 wasn't much better. Missed 3 birdie putts inside 10 feet, went in the water on 15, rolled down the hill twice on 16. Ended up with -2 net, -3 gross. I can shoot better than that from the tips on this course in my sleep (as long as I'm not doing it in a competition, obviously).
Pretty much makes the second round irrelevant, started with a par so I'd have to go -21 over the next 17 holes to match the top score so far. Actually -22 since I'm a +1 handicap.

So the second round started OK until on hole 5 when I hit a pair of flop shots from the bunker, both P/P, the second one set up to go maybe a yard or two longer than the first, where the first rolled back into the bunker and the second flew the green entirely. Ended up with a double.

Another new winner last event in Lou. Pretty good parity so far. I've managed to maintain a 3rd place position, mostly by playing the most events. I'm never in contention in a full field though, so I guess I'm this society's Alex Noren.
I played the first round at Magnolia and was terrible. You would think I would know where not to miss regardless of tee, but apparently that is not the case. I'm way out of contention. I do like the way the leaderboard is shaken up, anyways.

A surprise come from behind win for charlie mattax at Magnolia. Nicely done!
I noticed that a number of the usual contenders either did not finish or did not play. Before I get to asking how folks feel about the handicapped event, I have to offer my praise to those who finish non-handicap events each week despite not being even remotely in contention. Without knowing all of the circumstances, I would hope that some of the regular contenders could finish handicap events when not in contention in the same manner.
So a two-parter on the Magnolia event. How did you like playing handicap, and how did you like playing forward tees on a real course? I liked seeing the new names on the leaderboard, so I think I might be a fan of the handicap. I don't know how I feel about playing forward on the real course, or at least all the way forward. I guess my thoughts are that there are enough events out there at RCR's played at full length, so it's a change of pace. I'm willing to hear all thoughts, though.
I'll also take suggestions for a potential major event at any point. Type of course, how many rounds, prize money? Everything is in play.
For next weekend's event I was looking to do a Stableford event, until I realized that is not an option. Very nice. So my next thought was to do a handicapped event at one of reebdoog's higher rated courses. I tried The Homestead and Warrior Ridge, but because they had to be republished due to the changing par bug, neither one was handicap rated. A double very nice for HB here.
I settled on a course on my list, Glenelg, that is a reversible course. So we will have one round in one direction, played on Fri-Sat, and then one round in the opposite direction on Sunday. Full schedule additions are below:
Aug 25-26: Glenelg, Black (I think Black, I'm away from the game right now) Aug 27: Glenelg, Red Aug 28-29: Sunningdale Old Aug 30-31: Devon Quarry

Early feedback from hb forum is anti-handicap, mostly because it doesn't work that great. Any other thoughts here, especially regarding different tees?

I liked the Tee's up at Magnolia because it was still a challenge, for me at least. Forward tees on most fictional courses always seem to play too easy for my liking.
I didn't even notice the event was handicapped, lol. I think it's a nice change of pace and a nice reward for those that play week to week without being able to really compete.
Glenleg is a great venue. Blue and Red I believe.

I've always been for switching up tee sets for a few events here and there. Think it brings a bit more of the "fun" element into things are your able to go for a lot more shots than from back pins, but playing from up tee's every/most rounds would also get boring for obvious reasons.
As far as the handicap system goes...I really don't care. I looked at my score after the round (rarely check it while I'm playing for some reason...) and thought "damn, I thought I played better than that" then realized it was handicapped. I'm all for it if you think it's going to help retain interest from some who may not be as competitive without it turned on, because as nice as it is to win, I'm more interested in the collective groups involvement - so if using handicap is better for the group as a whole, it won't bother me one bit. Just my opinion.

That Mav course is really really good. I salvaged a rubbish front with some back 9 heroics but came nowhere close to the top of the leaderboard. Excellent round CLV!

I played this one after bumbling my way around my first round at Magnolia, so I was good and loose and thinking I was terrible at the game.

Thanks for using Troon. Sorry I couldn't do much with it in regard to multipin and new tees, it just kept crashing. It may be ok to do some work on now with the new patch so I will get around to it one day. I missed this post, I'm not the most observant person. Do you have a ps4 society?

Missed an easy eagle on 2 and an easy par on 6. 3-putted on 8 as well, missed the par putt from 5 feet. Missed an easy eagle on 9. I really can't handle slow greens. Give me 187 greens any day over this.
Also barely missed an eagle chip on 16 and an eagle putt on 17. Had a bunch of eagle opportunities and wasn't able to convert a single one. Ended up shooting a -9 64, 1.56 putts per hole.
