So... who got it? I'm loving it right now. Think Headmaster is an amazing game to showpiece the technology! If you hate it at least give a non fan boyish reason why it certainly has flaws and isn't for everyone but I think it's well worth the money compared to rift and vive

I always get that urge to impulse buy when something new comes out, but a $550 or $700 price tag before tax combined with a selection of games that seem to lean closer to tech demos instead of full fledged games will make it easy to steer clear. At least until the price drops or I see some games worth playing and I'm convinced this won't join the scrap heap of other platforms/peripherals that don't get the adoption rates to continue long term support much beyond the launch window.
The tech is intriguing but I just don't feel there is enough there yet to spend/risk that kind of cash.

I can't justify buying it yet. I' have to be sure it is something I'll use a lot for the money they are asking. Don't want to be all about it for a week or two then have it collect dust. Will see how devs approach and create for it.

Appreciate the thoughts guys. Deffo try before buy. I went to the event in Sheffield and found a few of the launch games I'd love to play through so they will tide me over until the big releases hit.
Ps3 and ps4 launched with no big name current IPS other than FIFA so I'm not worried about the big guns not bothering, my only concern is that it flops which as same with most things time will tell!

Thing with the PS3 and 4 though was that they were Sony's flagship product. Even before being announced you knew you'd be getting all the big games and franchises as they release. With VR right now you don't know if you'll ever see the annual EA Sports titles, Grand Theft Auto, CoD or Battlefield, etc. At the moment the library looks too much like the Wii, Move, and Kinect pile of mini games and shovelware. Time will tell and I hold no ill will towards the thing and hope it survives, for the sake of the early adopters if nothing else.
In a possibly troubling sign I just walked to the Best Buy three doors down from my apartment and they had at least two of the bundles and eight of the headsets still sitting on the shelf. For an item supposedly sold out of preorders months ago and had an in-store midnight launch to see that many unsold some 8 hours after the store opened for the day makes me already question its' long term popularity.
In case you were wondering I did resist the urge to purchase one.

That's standard for any release tbh. When the console is announced everyone who thinks they might want one for release preorder so they go through the roof. Slowly over the months people cancel as they fall off the bandwagon with the most coming in the last couple of weeks. Ps4 release was exactly same here in UK. sold out for months before but then still some available on release day so I wouldn't read too much into that. The only people getting it now are either those obsessed with gaming they have to have the latest thing or those of us like I who can afford the device and are intrigued as to what the future of gaming is going to be like. When it inevitably drops to 250 quid after Xmas which is natural sales will pick up just feel Longevity though, well ultimately we can speculate all we like but no one knows and only time will tell. As stated Sony are quick to drop products if they don't work out but they have spent more than 8x the money developing this than they have on any other product. I'm confident this won't be the next vita

That was the big question I was wondering as well. Outside of those that preordered is there really a huge remaining group of people that will buy into this anytime soon? There's probably a large group of people who are either playing the wait and see if it can justify this price approach or waiting for a decent price cut, but will any of that happen soon enough for developers to be willing to spend the money to make games for a small user base?
I'm actually quite happy with my Vita purchase though. Got it like a year or so after launch but it cost like $200, in threeish years I've spent an extra $40-50 on games but thanks to PS+ I've got dozens upon dozens of games to play on it. The relatively low cost of entry plus maximizing the value of my PS+ subscription made it an easy purchase and one I don't regret even with the dwindling support. I expect that it's only a matter of time until Sony drops the free PS3 and/or Vita games from the Plus package and possibly adds VR games to replace them. At that time PSVR starts to become something I might have more interest in since at the very least I'm saving the cost of having to buy games.

They do seem to be scraping the bottom of the barrel for PS3 games the last few months. With the huge catalog of games that they could draw from it does give the impression they're attempting to soften the blow when they do make the announcement that PS games are off Plus. Who'll miss it when it's already been months since they got a worthwhile game?
Keep us up-to-date on your VR impressions though. I'm curious how it'll hold up for you in week 2, month 2 and so on. Both from the hardware standpoint and if any of the games you have hold any lasting appeal.

I couldn't resist the urge to get hold of one of these. I have to say that so far it's been an incredible piece of equipment, the sense of being there is unbelievable! The only issue for me is the obvious low fidelity graphics compared to what you are used to on normal PS4, especially on driveclub. I understand that game has to run at 60fps, but it is very pixelated. Having said that, it hasn't ruined the game for me at all, the sense of being inside the car is very real. The interiors look fantastic, much better than the world around you. It so much easier to get yourself lined up for a corner in VR, you know exactly where the other cars are in relation to you just by looking out of the window as you would IRL. I use a racing wheel for that, I guess that playing with a controller would make it far less enjoyable? You feel attached to the car with the wheel. Hopefully the Pro will improve the graphics on these games greatly, when that is released. If it does then I'd probably get one. I've been playing through a few demos, some of them are mind blowing! Stand outs so far are Battlezone, Rez, Thumper, London Heist, Super Hypercube, Resi Evil 7 Kitchen demo, Tumble (which I bought after a brief go on the demo) and Eve Valkyrie. The Resident Evil kitchen demo is absolutely terrifying, it's pretty hard not to rip the headset off or close your eyes The full game is going to be superb in VR. London heist is a lot of fun, ducking behind cover and picking off enemies during the robbery section is brilliant. I'm hoping that a full game will be made of that at some point. I really hope that this takes off in a big way, the potential is clearly there. The only issue with the actual equipment is the wires, they can become a bit awkward at times. But as you are sitting, it's not too much of a problem.

Cable tie to the ceiling or wall which allow slack so it doesn't trail up your back or restrict you is the way forward

So, two weeks later how's it going? Still loving it? Playing it as much as you did day 1 or 2? Games starting to get boring? Etc?

So, two weeks later how's it going? Still loving it? Playing it as much as you did day 1 or 2? Games starting to get boring? Etc? I'll try and give an impartial view.. I still love it! Am I playing it as much? Probably not as the novelty is long gone now. Games not really getting repetitive and there's plenty out there. Without the novelty factor is it worth the cost? Now I'm not so sure. It's a great piece of kit and we'll worth the money compared to other headsets but for the average gamer do you really want to buy effectively another console for this? That I'm not so sure on anymore. I don't regret it, far from it but I think it will really take off when it hits the 200 mark

I would be very much interested and possibly buy one immediately if they ever added VR support to No Man's Sky. Love or hate the game it would pretty much be the perfect fit for VR.
