I quite enjoyed the first code masters F1 game but the next two went backwards if anything and I didn't get last years PS4 game. It's looking like they have made huge steps forward, I've seen Crazycanuck1985 playing and it does look good.
Here's the thing, TGC takes up most of my available playing time. F1 goes into the same category TGC does by my wife, she won't watch me play, unlike Unchartered, Shadow of Mordor etc. I've had project cars for ages and it hardly gets played. I find the racing quite boring and I've not enjoyed many races. I'm trying to stick with career but struggling.
I though I liked sims but when I think about it, I like games with a more exciting race feeling rather than a sim. I don't have and probably never will have a wheel.(Not allowed) So should I stick with project cars career(does it get more exciting?), play some one-off races on Project Cars or go for F1 2016?

Project Cars is a decent game. Luckily, I found a fairly active PC racing league there that was organized and had some good races. Otherwise, online mode is just a bunch of morons trying to win on the first lap (like any racing game online). Sadly, career mode does not get any more exciting in PCars.
F1 I am finding to be very immersive. I'm learning lots about the sport. The learning curve can be steep, but it feels so good to nail a perfect lap or finish a race with a good pit strategy.
Quite a few people would think I'm crazy, doing 100 percent length races and being happy with top 10 after 2 hours, but it's very rewarding. Streaming and having lots of people watching has helped the experience.
I don't think a wheel is a must, I played with a controller for years. Once I got my wheel however, I will never go back to controller.
At the end of the day, I would go with F1, solely based on the awesome career mode.

Cheers Andre. It sounds like I should give up on Project Cars career and move onto F1. I wonder if it's possible I'll like it so much I might want to play golf less. I guess it was one of the reasons for you.
I've always been a big fan of F1, the older games codemaster games have never quite captured the sport. I'll not be streaming mind, my wife thinks playing on-line is mental. Never mind playing and people watching me.

I bought F1 2010, and generally enjoy it - with the exception of driving in the rain. In wet weather I'm either far too slow to avoid being lapped by half the field due to way too much downforce, or if I try to match them on the straights I just can't keep it on the track. Very frustrating there. Maybe just not enough time behind the wheel (or in my case, at the controller -- like you). Canuck has inspired me to dust it off and give it another go. Started my second season in Career Mode, qualified 6th, and ended up winning in Sahir to get the season underway! When I look at F1 2016, it looks to be far better graphically (which one would expect), but also a bit more polished overall in terms of commentary and cut scenes pre and post race. I'd still like to see more in terms of telemetry data - i.e. tire temps for each tire across the tread (inner, mid, outer), and ride height / roll analysis, like Geoff Crammond's GP3 had. Also, I have no idea why car setup would be limited to either just "Front / Rear" for things like spring rate / ride height / camber, etc. Bump and Rebound (shocks) settings aren't even available at all. These should all be available for each wheel individually. Sure, not everyone enjoys tweaking setups right down to the nuts and bolts, but at least make it an option for those who do. Despite my grumblings, it looks like I might be diving into F1 2016...if I can sneak it past the wife. I love her to bits, but she doesn't understand the enjoyment of gaming at all. Have ended up in the doghouse on more than one occasion.

Yeah the doghouse is not a pretty place to be! I am loving f1 2016 and at the moment im getting away with playing about 2 50% races with practice/qualifying sessions per week, currently at baku in my career, loving the game!! Switching between this, tgc and prominent poker are using up all my free time nicely without burn out and huffs n puffs from the lady (okay thats a lie, she normally comes in to have a moan midway thru a chicane)

Back swing or chicane. Same difference. More positive comments. Now I have to convince her! I might have to wait until Christmas or my birthday ha ha.

I hear ya, bud. It's either the moan at the chicane, or wandering in front of the TV and standing there as player X steps toward the ball when the World Cup final has gone to penalties, and the match is on the line. :-(

I've been enjoying watching your 100% career races on Youtube. I tend to have them on in the background while I'm working. I like the way they develop slowly and then I get hooked for the last 25% of each race when the real excitement begins. Italy has been my favourite so far. I've just been lucky enough to get a G920 wheel setup for Fathers Day / upcoming birthday. I think you said you use this wheel on a recent F1 stream. I'm really enjoying it but the brake pedal is soooo hard to push (so far only used FM5 and FM6 on XB1). How have you set up the brake pedal?

The brake pedal is a pain, but I've gotten used to it. I think there is a way to remove the rubber stopper on the pedal so it softens up though. Take a look somewhere on YouTube on how to do it.

Keep this up and I will be forced to come out of racing retirement.
Too bad there isn't any good 4x4 off-road racing Sims ... rFactor had a great off road mod.
And I was pretty decent in F1... luckily for you youngsters, my arthritis and old age has slowed down my reaction times.
LOL

Who has this game on PS4?
And if you do, how good/bad is it if you don't own a wheel?
I was thinking about getting it maybe, but if it isn't fun without a wheel/pedals it probably doesn't make sense really...

For those of you delving into F1 201x, and struggling a bit with car setups, and truly understanding the physics and processes involved in achieving a good car setup, you might want to check out this It's the most detailed - yet still comprehensible - explanation of the how's and why's of getting your car to perform on the track. Admittedly, it's a NASCAR guide, so not everything contained within will be applicable to F1 racing, or the Codemasters series in particular - for example you obviously won't be concerned with Grille Tape, Left Side Bias, Wedge Adjustments, etc. HOWEVER, for an understanding of how to manage the forces of pitch and roll through suspension adjustments (springs, anti-roll bars, camber, toe, ride height, etc.), this Setup Guide is one of the best around, and I've been playing racing sims for decades. As you read through the guide, you'll notice one of the weaknesses imo of the Codemasters series, and that's the inability to directly tweak the corners of your car individually. Instead of being able to specifically adjust the RF spring, for example, you're limited in the F1 series to Front/Rear adjustments only. You'll also notice that shock absorbers aren't even part of the F1 setup options - another of the "limitations" in the F1 game. One of the biggest weaknesses I find in F1 2016 is the inability to measure tire temperatures across the tread - on the inside, middle and outside edge of the tread. That temperature data will tell you volumes about how the car is handling, and what needs to be adjusted in order to maximize grip, and mitigate tire wear. Despite these drawbacks, I've enjoyed watching Canuck's F1 2016 Twitch stream, and will likely be picking up a copy of the game myself. Pour yourself a nice beverage, get comfortable, and prepare for an extended read. If you enjoy solving the puzzle of how to set up a fast car, it'll be worth it.
