I'm not sure if this thread is already somewhere else, I didn't see it with a quick search.
bergs fadgewacker and I were talking about this in another thread, so I thought I'd just move the conversation to its on thread, as I think its interesting and could probably benefit a lot of people other than myself.
So what is the best controller to use with the new game, 2K23, that is supported by TGCtours API, and why?
Personally, I would like to know what is best while using it with a PC. Affordability, stability, ease of use, setup/comparability with windows and other games are things that interest me.
Currently I have an Xbox elite special edition, that is series 1.
It seems to work fine with other games that I play with, but in this game I've always had random tempo problems that I can't seem to nail down where it comes from. I've wondered about my older computer, network bandwidth, a lot, but for this thread, I've never considered the controller itself could be an issue. I've heard all the arguments about xbox vs pc vs playstation, and honestly, I thought it was all about the hardware of the system. I don't think its ever hit me until just now, that it could be the controller itself, no matter what base hardware you have. Have I been missing something all along in my understanding?
Is it time to upgrade controllers? Would I see differences in this and other games, in going to a DualSense 5? Is something else better?
So I have a lot of specific things to me I related, but really, if anyone wants to use this thread to discuss controllers for 2K23, feel free!

Dual Sense 5 or Dual shock 4. Both are excellent for this game. I gave up on Xbox controllers for the game about 8 months ago. And I own every Xbox controller.

copying and pasting fadgewacker 's post from the other thread because I thought it was very informative.

Also on PC. Used XB Controller (ordinary one) through 19 and 21 (on Plat (got to 40 WGR) and TST (got to 9 WGR))
After all the tweaks from HB with everything, tempo for the last year and a bit had gotten totally random. Bought a DS4 about 3 months ago - and immediately it was better on 2k21, and immeasurably better on 2k23 - if the game says I hit a tempo, I can feel it. Tried two rounds a couple of weeks ago with the XB - and similar to 2k21 (but slightly less bad) - ie pretty random output related to what I can feel I have put in. So the short version - DS4 beats XB controller on PC. Like night and day.

Anything other than an Xbox controller, I was looking at a device that would let me use a PS controller with my series x it costs around £35 but I would have to factor in the cost of a PS controller as well. I’m unsure how it would work though so it might not be worth it. I’ve used the original controller that came with my series x and an old Xbox one controller plus an elite none of them give me consistent tempo, my tempo is so bad because of neurological problems I’ve got that the calibration routine doesn’t help.

Dualshocks were always / are a good controller, but the Dualsense is a considerable step up in overall product IMO. That's where I'd put my money.
A lot of folk I know that play on PC use a Sony pad. I have no experience first hand of XB pads. Been on PS for years now... Since late PS2 days.
If you guys wanted to, you could overclock your controller poll rates... Not sure how technically minded you are.
Vid picks up on XB polling... Then does PS (much faster) then goes to Elite...
Even overclocked XB controllers can't get close to PS controllers... PS controllers can even be overclocked further again. DSense is the daddy.

From Blade (I changed threads, buddy! )
So, what you are saying about the refresh, is that the same thing fadgewacker was talking about being 125 hz on Xbox?
I'm not sure I understand the polling rate and refresh, in laymans terms... - if a controller does 250 wired, and 800 wireless, why does everyone say wired is better?

People only say wired is better because in the last game, it allowed you to calibrate a certain way that could only give a finite amount of results around perfect @250hz poll. Watch the video I tagged you in - The XB controllers are not only half of the lowest possible stock PS poll rate, but they also have a wider input rate variance (WOAH that was never a slow moments).

That's a long long way from the way anything works... Even "plugging in" a Sony controller doesn't give you better performance. It DROPS the poll rate from 800hz (standard on Dualshock and Dualsense) to 250hz.Jyst so happened that the lower poll allowed a calibration to work advantageously in previous games. Bottom line is, the stock Sony controllers communicate with the slave unit (PC or PS) faster, and more consistently than MS ones, or any officially endorsed by MS one.

The video posted is exactly what I used to overclock my PS controller. Very simple to do.
My tests: PS5 DS controller on USB cable out of the box: average 4 ms report density (how often the controller talks to the computer), did not measure jitter (packet delay measure)
PS controller on USB after overclocking using the technique described in the video: average 0.9 ms report density, 0.11 ms jitter
PS controller on Bluetooth after overclocking: average 1.9 ms report density, 1.5 ms jitter
Xbox controller using MS wireless USB stick: 8 ms report density, 1.8 ms jitter
Xbox controller on USB cable: 8 ms report density, 0.21 ms jitter
Bottom line, USB-c connected PS5 DS controller has the highest refresh rate and lowest jitter.

Yup... The XB controllers themselves (stock / Elite or whatever) are the reason everyone's been having so many issues for so long... I actually thought this was quite widely understood, but I've been away for a while.

One thing I'll be very clear on - DO NOT, if you are overclocking your controller for improved response, do anything with the control stick resolutions or x/y axis sensitivity... That'll likely get you banned.

I've never really done PC gaming, but now I wish I'd have bought this game for my PC, and then just bought a PS5 DS controller.
I haven't played PGA 2k golf since the 2019 version, and am just now getting going with 2k23. It sucks knowing I'm already at a disadvantage. I've been practicing the last couple days a lot, but am still spraying it all over, and Tempo seems really inconsistent.
Bummer.
Are there different ways/versions to play PGA 2k23 on a PC? Is it all the same, thru STEAM or something? I just wanted to make sure if I go the PC route with a PS5 DS controller, I'm doing it the preferred way/method on a PC.

Yes, you play the game via Steam. Can play with controller (XB or PS) or mouse
