Just seen the email. Big change.
I don’t see why there isn’t just a pro league, master league, legend league?
Or at least main tours pro swing if that’s what they want, beer league changed to master league and then TST changed to Legend league?

It is a shame that the skill element is being taken out of TGC Tours. Scores will come down massively. TGC will become a putting contest now. No need for API checks anymore, as everyone on Plat will be able to hit perfect every shot anyway. May as well make the settings pro am. The perfect window for pro is huge. Everyone will need to get used to very high winds and black salt valley type greens as this will be the only way to keep scores down. Yep..and a putting contest with a wider swing plane. Coming from someone who is a putt shanker, this is a bigger difference than people realize. must be a 2 thumb problem, I also shank too many putts and don't have a perfectly straight swing on it....

Can we add the putt preview while we are at it?

So wait, will CC be Pro or Master swing? I am garbage at master swing, I have made 1 cut in about 10 starts when I joined a couple of months that said I enjoy the challenge and swear constantly while playing. I am in a couple of Pro swing Societies and regular shooter of anything from 10 / 15 under per round, great for the ego but that is about it.

Thumbs up from me ... but I'm biassed because I'm on XBox and been in Beer League nearly all season. Based on that experience, moving to Pro will still have system imbalance between XBox and the rest and the scores will be lower. However I'd argue it becomes more skill based as it is more about playing the course, short game and putting than who gets shafted by the game most. It’s not more skill based though. First off, let me say I absolutely acknowledge that Xbox has been screwed. But let’s look at things from the PS4 perspective, and I would even include PC given there there many great players on that who compete every week. On a given system, you have top level players who can hit perfects most of the time, then those who struggle. The difference within the players of each system can definitely be skill (calibration can be factor, but good calibration can also make no difference to many players!). By lowering the skill to hit perfect, you upgrade those already doing well some, but MASSIVELY upgrade those struggling. You’ve just closed the skill gap by a large amount. I don’t see at all how that makes things more skill based. Hitting tempo is a big part of the skill that’s being removed.

Think this is the best change for the health and well-being of TGCTours as a whole. Competitive balance between the 3 consoles has always been one of the main goals of TGCTours and after the swing change, numbers dropped drastically (I for one completely stopped playing competitively after the swing change, but that's just me). Also, this will obviously not perfectly balance the consoles, but it brings it closer, and brings some people back. For Plat/Elite players, I totally understand the disappointment. You are gods at this game, and it has been put on easy mode. But you are a small number compared to the sizes of the lower tiers. 95% of you are on PS anyway, nothing stopping you from making your own society and battling it out there on the toughest settings you can think of. No way to make everyone happy in this case with the amount of work required to put in a tiered system, etc. Many don't realize that Doyley is essentially running this entire operation by himself at the moment. 100% the right call with the state the game is in right now. A big decision for sure, but I'm excited to kick-start my career and start actually playing the game for enjoyment again, while competing in tournaments! Master swing just did not do that for me. Time to try to work my way up from CC-B!

It’s possible! There’s definitely something weird between normal shots and putts. Like some of these putt lines I can get are legit WTF lol. Congrats on your win btw!!

Personally happy to see the proposed changes, as a relative newbie, I quickly moved from beer to circuit as I liked the idea of trying to progress up through leagues and improve my world ranking etc I underestimated the change from beer so at present I'm a trying to score even kinda of guy. I do appreciate how a lowering in settings will effect the elite within us but overall I feel a more competitive playing field will attract more to play

I personally welcome the change. I can't see it making any difference for the top tier players as they'll shoot in the mid-high 50s regardless of swing difficulty. But I do think it'll give a few more players on Kinetic/Elite and lower tier Plat players the chance to creep toward that top tier and make some noise against the best. Maybe not win, but be able to make more consistent cuts and give them a run for their money at times.
It's all about having fun and if this brings back more people who were frustrated by the difficulty of master, then I think it's a good thing. Like others have said though, you can't please everybody.

I might start playing competitively with this change next season! Newer player right here. Masters is beyond me, but I can hack it around on Pro if I focus up enough.

That would most likely be the new beer league been said that there won’t be any difficulty changes in the main tour… we’ve tried that and it just doesn’t work. To be successful, the main tours all need to be one difficulty. The only issue I have with Beer League is that we're removing a lot of what makes it fun to play on TGC. There's just no comparison with different tiers and no WGR ranking. It's a lot of fun climbing to the top to compete with the best of the best. I think almost nobody will play Beer League under new settings because people who played masters on the tour wanted to climb as high as they could and have a WGR tracking their progress along with it. It was a competitive decision, and moving to beer league if they wanna stick to those settings will not be rewarding whatsoever.
Anyways, that's my spiel at the end of the day. I will play whatever is decided on the main tour, I'm just speaking for a decent amount of the top players I know. They will make their thoughts known over the next few days I'm sure. I just know almost everyone on plat can hit near 100% perfects on pro and it becomes a pure numbers game of knowing the exact loft/spin you need on everything, instead of how most of us played with hitting a spot close enough while being able to still hit a perfect on masters.
Kara I think you've made fantastic points here on the thread. As an Xbox player I'm happier than you to try the changes but I feel I would maybe have similar concerns as you were I on a different platform. So whilst I'm happy enough and glad they've taken steps for Xbox players I totally get what you're saying.. I don't know if you play it already but just a heads up that True Sim Tour might provide the challenge and experience you're looking for with world ranking points if you find the main tours on Pro less enjoyable. It provides a challenge in a different way. Just a thought and maybe something to try.

Fair play to you guys for trying something that was always going to be unpopular initially to try and make the competition fairer across platforms. That intention should absolutely be applauded regardless.
Will True Sim Tour be switching to Pro as well?
