I really think this game has lost a big majority if it’s fanbase over the last month. They should’ve either left this game as is.Or implemented these changes since day1.The tempo is all over the place for me on Elite Tour.I’ve played this game quite frequently and now feel like I’m just at the mercy of faulty tempo mechanics.I’ve had swings in the grey area come up woefully short as well as a few perfects. And even had a fasts that ended up better than a grey. The chipping and pitching are a big head scratcher as well.About ready fo pull the plug on this version. And just wait what 2k has to offer is in 2022 Glad I'm not the only Elite player seeing this. I'm on PS5 so really shouldn't be having any issues with framerates (I don't notice any blips at least) but over the past 2 weeks the inconsistency is destroying my game. Loading times for the course and in between holes during this timeframe have greatly increased so I'm thinking its some kind of server side issue. Have literally gone from shooting -10 on the weeks CC course as a warm up into struggling to shoot under par on the Elite course right after. Nothing to do with course difficulty...it's all down to my tempo suddenly being all over the place, especially with the long clubs. Have had the same issues with greys and even perfects sometimes coming up way short, normally with pitches/flops/splashes. Obviously its effecting everyone differently and there are plenty who are still shooting lights out consistently but it's really aggravating to have things just fine in a practice round and then immediately after having no clue where some shots are gonna end up.

Frustrated! I normal shoot about -5 to -7 per round now I am shooting scores +3 to +10.

Played a round in platinum today which I didn't expect to shoot well on but it was the most frustrating I've had for a while. I really wish they'd fix whatever they stuffed up that's causing all this random tempo nonsense. At least a dozen swings that felt normal came up red slow, on one hole I hit two shots back to back that felt exactly the same and landed in the red zone on opposite sides. I wouldn't expect both to be perfect but maybe one with the other slightly off, or both slightly off, not polar opposites like that.
I used to be able to feel when I'd hit an off tempo swing most times, with the occasional "where the hell did that come from?", but now it's the opposite. I know when I've hit a bad shot just about every time in real golf because I can feel something off with the swing or my balance or whatever but lately on here it's been a total lottery.
I don't hold out much hope that it'll be fixed any time soon given how long it took them to add more realistic punishment for bad swings, but I do hope they sort it out before the next iteration comes out. I like the overall idea of the swing but it needs to work properly for the game to be enjoyable. Next week it'll probably work again...not good enough.

About one in three shots just seems to give a random result. Back to back swings that feel exactly the same give a red fast then a red slow. There is more influence to the tempo result than my input. I moved to beer league to try it out for awhile. Play on pro settings so tempo is not king, but can still influence your round. So far liking the game again but I still get random red tempos out of the blue

A lot of these posts match my experiences with the new swing mechanics, I just cannot play the game any more. I have played this game avidly for the last 3-4 years and have even had stints in the top division. Next week I will drop into the CC divisions for the first time. The TGC tours leagues are the only reason I play the game so playing on an easier skill level in the career mode is not really an option for me. I didn't bother playing last week's tournament and I'll probably play less and less going forwards.
The splash and flop shots are resulting in lots of double and triple bogies which usually means speed golf for the rest of the round. I was once asked which game would I choose if I could only play one game for the rest of my life. I would probably have chosen TGC but now, it would be near the bottom of the list.
Now don't get me wrong, I actually agree with the sentiment behind the changes. Playing a fast for most shots is not the way to play the game so changes were definitely required. It's just that I cannot get used to the new mechanics as there does not appear to be any consistency from one swing to the next. Looking at the scores, many players have taken to the new swing but I am simply not finding any joy in playing the game now.
I have just found Wreckfest, and that is a lot of fun on PS5!

Further divided the play between formats, now it’s ps, slightly more difficult, pc way way more difficult, and Xbox, just forget it

I've been vocal about my opposition to some of these changes, on the grounds that it was a poor product decision to mess so drastically with the swing mechanics of the setting that is in use on a vibrant, competitive online community. That aside, I do love the game and I've been trying to work through changes as I discover them. I'm a PC player, and recently I've experimented with different controllers to see how they affect gameplay.
I had been playing on one of the cheaper wired XBox controllers from PDP, but I recently switched to the higher-end Nancon pro compact and I have been pleasantly surprised by the results. With the old controller if sometimes felt like there was some randomness in the result, but with the higher-end device it plays much truer.
Before giving up on the game, I'd experiment with different input devices if you have the means to.

My experience, fwiw... Early days post nerf: Perfect somehow felt easier than it used to, but after a few days/week, became frustrated, so time to adjust something... Middle days: Recalibrated with my "normal" tempo, which undoubtedly got way on the fast side since I was used to just playing fasts off the tee and often on approach. Result was decent for a bit, then made a quick turn to just horrid, which sent me searching...
Calibration theories: Started thinking there had to be something I was missing that others figured out. I've played this game/series as much as anyone over the past 4-5 years (yikes...), and at a decently high level for the past 2-3(4?), so it didn't make sense how I'd suddenly lost the ability to play decent. Did some reading around and ran trials with various ways of juking calibration - some for a type of swing, but ultimately settled on this theory where calibrating a way can widen "perfect" or "grey" zones based on the rounding effect of swing timing input. I thought it kind of worked, but the outcome felt like I had to barely inch the stick forward on downswing to not go red fast. After a few days of just complete sh%$ play, I decided to recalibrate again, but just go with a fast tempo. That felt GREAT for...idk, 3 days? Then had a couple of days when I literally had zero feel, think 80% of shots were red in one direction or another. Considered just giving up, game wasn't fun at all. Recalibrated...again...in a modified method to what I'd done before the "faster" attempt, which seemed to work for a week or so, and then again I quickly lost my feel...
Resolution?: toward the end of last week, I again found myself on the backside of one of these never-ending calibration cycles - felt great the first day or two, slowly got worse, and eventually resulted in me just losing all feel for tempo. Without changing anything, and having utterly no confidence whatsoever, I went into round 1 of plat this week. It went, lets say, less than ideally. In pure frustration, I thought "you know what, this is stupid. Stop trying to find an edge or figure out what the other's are doing, let's calibrate in a way that's a reasonable range of tempos for your 'normal' and just play the game." So, did that, then went straight into round 2. Here's the comparison of how those two rounds went, both played within probably no more than 20-30mins of each other, didn't even close the game or leave the computer:
In sum, I'm not really sure why I typed all of that out, guess just for sharing purposes. I'd like to say I've "figured it out," but that would be a lie. I'll almost definitely be right back at the end of my calibration cycle this time next week, if not sooner. I will echo what others have said in terms of just not being able to feel differences in tempo every time one goes awry. Sure, there are definitely times when I swing and immediately realize "that was too quick," but there are even more times when I swing and it feels normal, but the result is way off - case in point, a maxed out very slow yesterday with what felt like the same swing I'd put on every other shot. When tempo was introduced in TGC2, I'd like to believe I was one of the earliest to adapt, it just felt natural, and tempo has always been a strong point for me in these games. This one, however, for whatever reason, just doesn't have any feel consistency, despite the fact that nothing has changed on my end - same isp, same hardware, same controller model, same cord, etc.
GL everyone, hope yall figure out something that works and can bring some fun back into the game, I'm searching for it, too. Cheers.

Your journey sounds nearly identical to mine. Post nerfing, I did pretty well and shot some of my best rounds, leading to a promo up to Kinetic. During the middle days when it seemed like swing outcomes were changing every two or three days, I re-calibrated countless times, often thinking I had found a tempo only to be humbled by a round of +10 the next day. During one of these rounds I accidentally broke one of my controllers and at that point I was ready to give up. The past few days, with a new high-end pro controller in hand, I think I've found my stride. The random red slows I seemed to be getting too frequently are largely gone. The game seems to be playing true again. I'm not sure if it's the controller or server-side changes, but whatever the reasons I'm feeling good again about my game.

This is a lot of what I've done. I spent a couple hours on the range: different grips, mouse, left thumb stick. Nothing worked. Bought a Nacon controller and it so far is better. I can feel very distinct differences in the joystick and the results are far better. Like you said, I didn't suddenly forget how to play. I played last season in PGA (not well but I was in it). I started this year in Elite and promoted up in only a few weeks. Last week I struggled to break par. And I was playing for Perfect every shot since day 1. And like you, I play every day. I love this game, love the TGCTours setup and community. Pro is too easy, the game itself is very shallow. I hope they figure out something. Honestly this was so stupid by HB/2k. They announce they sign Tiger. EA says they're making a game. Well, so what. Last EA golf game failed so hard they stopped making golf games. 2k has a leg up. EA then says they'll have all 4 majors, and make it a point to say you can play as and with the pros. HB's response is 'we made the game far more difficult!... Oh, and go get your NBA hats.' If I had to make a joke about 2k and creating a golf game it would probably have been about finding a way to get the NBA in there. I wonder how many more casual players theyve lost. TGCTours participation looks like it's down about 20%. And how many casual players are gone forever knowing EA has a new game coming next Spring. Really frustrating. Can't say I've ever played a game as much as this one and I've been playing video games since the 80's.

They cannot communicate in a way befitting a game developer that wants to be up there with the big dogs. Look at how other video game devs release patch notes: Madden and EA get a lot of flack - which is usually warranted - but at least they explain their updates: www.ea.com/games/madden-nfl/madden-nfl-21/news/gridiron-notes-madden-nfl-21-april-title-updateMLB The Show: theshow.com/game-update-5/Konami/PES: www.konami.com/wepes/2021/eu/en/ps4/topic/game-wepes2021-17629Now let's compare that to HB's tweet about the swing changes... Update 1: Update 2: Lacking in any real detail, and many people were left to ask what these tweets actually meant.

I thought I had figured it out on Sunday. Not played for a week so ran two calibrations. Went out and played at both Pro and Master level and tempo was good. Nothing like all perfects (I don't hit them often) but an acceptable, playable range. Had a break and went back out a couple of hours later and tempo was all over the shop. Going forward I think I am going to try recalibration at the start of each session and try to "sync with the server". That probably sounds daft but I'm giving it a shot anyway, desperate needs, desperate measures!

This is my experience as well- I played by feel- with red fasts for left to right wind, red slows for right to left wind, and perfects for straight shots/ neutral wind. and I knew after every swing if it was fast or slow or perfect. Now I have no effing idea- There is absolutely no discernable difference between a red fast and red slow swing. I just try for perfects- and see what it comes up with. it feels like rolling dice- so random. This will be the deal breaker for me on this version. Finish my NT course and break time. Take a month or two off and come back to 3 new additional updates.

HB didn't even give THAT much of a response...they simply said they implemented a "small update" to the swing. That's the biggest thing for me. I'm getting to grips with the game again - like others I played for perfects but still took a little adjusting - but their communication and engagement with the community is just laughable really and always has been. You would think they'd realise how important that is for a pretty niche game. Baffling really.
