Coming back to this for a brief thought. Surely, EA making their new game current gen console only (PS5 or XB X/S) will force 2K/HB to upgrade their engine to make a new game for that same market, no? 2K can't rest on their laurels and give us a game still available on PS4/XB1 3-4 years or so after the newest consoles launched, right? PC/Steam should be the easiest market to upgrade to as they mostly have the best hardware to play the game. My take on the 2K/HB business plan is they’re already a ways into developing golf on a new generation Nine engine & the minor upgrade of a game we all just paid top dollar for is funding the payroll for the next 1-2 years. There is definitely not 2 years development in PGA 2K23 & my guess is they had a small team kept busy repackaging 2K21 for the gullible golf gamer whilst the bulk of staff have been busy rendering 4K blades of grass & ensuring there are 348 high fidelity dimples on the golf balls. The constant cash collection through balls & clubhouse passes are all telling signs that they are funding a bigger picture, especially with Tiger signed for 10 years. Generation 10 will probably arrive around 2026 so that new engine is imminent IMO. People are free not to spend their money on these "upgrades". The only thing I would drop any more cash on is if they marketed course packets

Sounds like info on EA's game will be coming out this week... EDIT - the initial tweet was deleted, as there is an embargo around the info coming out. Seems we might hear more details in a week or so...

Apart from the designer (which I think is super important to keep the game fresh), surely most people just want to be able to play with other people easily. Golf after all is a social game. That can take the form of competitive matchmaking, or just social or society rounds where you can play with your friends and chat sh%$ and watch each other's shots and enjoy virtual golf.
If EA can make it easy and fun to play with others then they'll surely take a big share of the market.

Still haven't heard a single thing about any multiplayer for this yet and what it may entail, which is a surprise to be honest

Well that’s quite generic and repetitive isn’t it.

If this gives us some real good physics and as it says, some unique, fluid swings, then I'm game! You know EAs animations are usually sound and great graphics with these realistic shot outcomes, that's not too shabby at all. Will of course hold judgement until I see some official stuffs and actually see some gameplay. I did that with 2k23, thought it was average and yet still purchased. What a waste that was.

Based on the released vision alone I'm personally very much looking forward to having another choice in the virtual gofing arena irrespective of EAs past failures. Even without a course designer here's hoping they do a slow release of new courses like the Clubhouse Pass in 2K21.

Not a fan of only having those 30 courses in the deluxe version of the game. The standard version should have 30 minimum. Looks like this will be a costly golf game if you want a reasonable amount of courses. One of the the reasons EA will never go back to having a course designer in their games again.

Each to their own but I really like playing the same courses over and over trying to beat my PBs.
A career mode with 20-25 tournaments all on different courses would be nice with the added option of downloading and editing in other courses if you fancy a freshen up.
Hopefully a kick ass PGA tour career mode can be had with the EA game and leave the original courses with course designer for HB so they can go back to being The Golf Club where they flourished without all the PGA pressure.
