My preorder download unlocks in a few hours. How are you XBox peeps lookin’? I’m really interested in the first impressions of those who are playing for the first time. As far as I know my preorder will unlock at 9pm pst at least that's what it's been in the past. Haven't had a chance to look today yet but I'm sure it'd just give me a "you'll have to wait a bit longer" page on the Xbox.
However a friend who ordered the Digital Deluxe Edition (still scratchin' my head as to why I didn't) to gain early access messaged me over the weekend with this comment, "just amazing, this game is so polished HB just take note!" Of course Sony Studios has been at it for years but the bottom line is they continue to improve the product year after after. He'd mentioned the last he'd played The Show was 2013 or 14 I think on a PS3, nevertheless he's thrilled!
Now he is on the Xbox One X so I'm salivating even more to see & feel how it'll play on the Series X!
Gonna' be a loooong night tonight!
Nice

First impressions are very good. Multitude of options. EA could learn a thing or two by the look of it.
Struggling with the phraseology as I’m not fully conversant with the sport but I shall persevere because it looks a lot of fun. Technical stuff like when to swing and when not to swing needs to be learned, at the moment I’m going for everything because I’m unsure of what to leave. Pitching seems straightforward enough, following the game’s help as to when to change my pitchers.
Going to be a drawn out learning curve but looks like it’ll be worth the grind.

Anyone build a stadium yet? Personally, don't have any desire to. I think the feature is fine for those inclined but for me why do I want to take a (my) Major League Baseball Team & put em' in a stadium other than their own. Besides, there's plenty of BB to play. I'll keep the creativity resigned to The Course Creator in PGA Tour 2K, that consumes more of my time than I care to admit already! lol!
On to the game itself, all I can say particularly for an Xbox'rs standpoint is YES YES YES!!! Baseball is back with a BANG!! Man what a polished sports title! Sure there are a few things that pop up & slap ya as head scratcher' like the "Mercy Rule". I just don't buy this one at all!
Playing a friend last night who'd never played a baseball video game & he's getting into it a bit just figuring a few things out & by the 5th or so I go up by 10 & slap, game over. No chance for anyone to mount a comeback! Sorry Sony but that's just plain lame!
The server strain they're experiencing which was evident also last night after a couple of one on one matches, was getting "server error" messages & so you'd have to reboot not just the game but the console. Well, to be expected I suppose & we'll hope they iron that stuff out before long!
I'm really digging the 'Dynamic' setting for difficulty & how they game adjusts to your capabilities. Just plain smart imo! Lol, I'd started the game out on HOF difficulty & within 4-5 games it's already adjusted hitting at least down to Veteran, ha! Ya, still trying to hone the batting skills!
Still trying to determine which pitching style I prefer. I've settled on the meter for the moment as pin point at 1st was just waaay to difficult to find any degree of consistency! But still testing em' all.
Fielding, well nothing felt better than climbing a wall last night & robbing my buddy's homerun, whew! Cool! I do find it a bit of a shame to have to have either a big 'floating' baseball or an ugly line on the field in order to make a play on the ball but tried turning em' off & found it next to impossible to chase the 'shadow' of the ball & be able to get to it. Oh well, is what is it is.
The only other thing that bothered me a bit but it's workable is the lack of just a stand alone season like the old days. The chopped up one they call 'March to October' doesn't enthuse me nor does having to write contracts, go through drafts, or set the price of wieners! Well, that is what is is also so I'll have to find a way to soften up the intricacy's of 'Franchise' mode I suppose.
Alright, I've spewed enough nonsense here for now, bottom line, love it love it love it!

Downloaded this on release day and have been starting out with the Road to the Show mode. Been pretty fun so far, but seems like a grind. I've played a fair amount of games and I'm only up to a 57 rating on my character! What hitting style do most people use? I've been using the one where you use the LS to move an aiming reticule to try to get it to where the ball is going through the strike zone, then using the buttons to hit. Been finding it pretty difficult, but got my first home run last night and it was epic (walk-off solo shot homer, tied 2-2, 2 outs in the 9th). For pitching, I've been using the pinpoint, but haven't tried other styles. Might try to the meter now that you mention it, lastchancehombre.

Of course I haven't played The Show since probably 2013 I think was when I last had a PS2 but man, ya it'll wear ya down. Nevertheless rewarding when you do make it to 'the bigs'!
With hitting I'd been going through each of the styles last couple of nights & last night I was still using the same you'd mentioned, LS to move the aiming reticle using the buttons to hit. However when I was done with an online game with a friend I went in to the practice area & tried I think it's called 'directional' hitting, not sure atm but it's the same principal except no reticle which I REALLY liked but small blue arrows appear when you push the left stick in any direction. I found this very cool particularly when I turned the strike zone off. Way cleaner look & I seem to be making better contact. Plus with the strike zone off & changing the umpire calls (can't remember the name of the setting) from 'precise' (default) to one of the other settings, well I'll say I got called out on a pitch that I thought at least was a bit out of the strike zone! lol!
For pitching I started out with pinpoint, at 1st found it difficult to be consistent. Tried analog briefly & didn't care much for it but didn't give it a good long look. Went to the meter which I found to be a pretty good challenge but I'm one of those that likes less screen clutter whenever possible so last night I went back to pinpoint (no less screen clutter there really) & was enjoying that a bit more. Still experimenting with pitching & looking for something that makes it a bit more difficult to be 95% consistent.
It's gonna' be a bit I think before I can zero in on a true sim style of play but love testing & playing.
Lmao, you'd mentioned your 1st homerun, last night late I was holding a 3-2 lead in to the 8th, had pitched 7 scoreless & only given up 1 hit before the 8th. So I bring my closer in to shut it down in the 9th, I walk a guy, next guy gets a base hit & 3rd guy up smacks a walkoff 3 run dinger! Felt like all 4 tires went flat at the same time! Lol!
What a game! Gotta' love it!!

I have a 1B I’ve been playing since 2014. He’s about to finally retire. The game allowed for transfer of career from one release to the next so you could continue with the newest game instead of having to start over. For the new game I’ve begun a starting pitcher career. I use directional hitting and classic button pitching. I also play on All Star level, not Dynamic along with a lot of screen litter turned off (strike zone box, hot zones, etc). Congrats on the walk off! Those still make me fist pump in my living room lol.

I feel it’s better to pick one thing. That way you can focus your resources on that area. Im sure you can have two separate RTTS player files and just play the one you’re into at any given time if you think you’d still like to roll with both.

Game is awesome and I could careless about baseball. I played as a kid and have been to live games . Have brought my kids to live games but never really cared about it or watched on tv. That being said it's pretty damn awesome. Very challenging. I'm not much of a baseball fan either, but this game is truly awesome! It doesn't look as next-genish as I thought it would look on my Series X, but it plays so smooth. I'm not seeing a hint of framiness. It's been so long since I played the Show on my PS4 that I'd forgotten the control system. I'm having a bear of a time hitting and can't settle on a method that feels right. I don't want to just press a button to swing, but of the four options, none of them feel comfortable to me right now. I'm a complete disaster when it comes to controlling base runners. What few base runners I've had I wind up getting them in a pickle because I don't know what button to hit to send them back It's going to take a while to arouse what little interest I have in baseball to spend enough time with this to learn the controls again. The most I've been able to play so far is three innings before losing interest. It'll take time, but I have hope.
