Like any designer, I feel my course should have scored better within my group, but my group was really tough to begin with. I'm very pleased to move on. I'm very proud of my course and I put more work into it than a great many of my other courses. I also know I took a big risk with template holes. Barnegat isn't a true template course (there are 4-5 holes that have no discernible template at all), but I feel strongly that there is enough variety and scenery to be a top course. I haven't played a single one of the other WC courses (except maybe one or two in rangering), so I don't really know what I'm up against. I can't say that any results 'surprise' me necessarily. I've judged enough of these to know that judges almost never agree 100% on all entries. I know that every designer here will think that his own course is better than this or that course on spec, but we can't base that opinion on judge bias or unfairness. I know that I'll be salty when I'm eliminated, but this is a really strong field and a really tough contest. Bottom line, I've always liked my chances in this one. I prefer to let the results play out and then see how I feel later.  |

As always, congrats to those who advanced, and comisserations to those who didn't. A ton of spectacular courses got sent home tonight for no other reason than they ran up against a course that was equally spectacular.

I will not be surprised in the slightest if Sussex Downs runs the table, its far and away my favorite course and most played in this contest and I want at least a dozen more downlands courses like it, its so quirky.

Congrats to all that moved on. I've been completely in the weeds with work stuff so I haven't been following along. I would love to get some feedback on my course. Obviously I think Barnegat was perfect in every conceivable way, but I'd love to hear what others had to say. |
