Any attempt to try and claim white people get treated the same as black people by the police and an expectation on black people to act the same (I don't just mean the "respect" they show them, I mean how much fear they should feel about the situation,) should be rejected out of hand. So, I'll go with my anecdotal evidence then: Half the people I hung out with as a kid were black. (Maybe not literally half, at least a quarter.) Friends, extended family, parents' friends. ALL of them have multiple stories to tell. I've seen them suffer racism, from people in the street, as well as police. I know a few well off black people, with nice cars, all of whom have been stopped many, many times. One of them, a doctor who has a BMW, has been stopped over 30 times. He was once stop and searched getting IN to the car! ("Car and person of this description been reported for a violent attack." Yeah, right.) Hell, I would be treated differently when I was in a group that included 2-3 black people. Also, if we're talking about Boston, I've read and seen so many things saying it was an incredibly racist city in the 50-70s. Even still. So I think black (and Irish, to be fair) people have had a different experience to cliffs. I am white and I have not had happen to me what has happened to nonwhites but a lot of it is due to lack of respect. I have seen first hand popo stopping blacks on the street and it is almost automatic the blacks go into defense mode. Try not doing that and give the popo NO reason to escalate anything. I'm out for now...don't really like having race debates with only one side of the story If only TGCT had some black members.

Probably wont' check or respond to this thread again until next time I'm bored waiting on a customer, but thought I'd offer a few thoughts if anyone is willing to listen to them.
cliffs hit the nail on the head. Its about respect.
My boss is white. He has been stopped on the street simply because of the way he looked and asked what he was doing, and to explain himself even though he was doing nothing wrong more than once. Once, he was actually taken to the station and held. And had done absolutely nothing wrong. Was he black? No, he had long hair and was wearing something they didn't like the look of and didn't respect them.
I am white. I have been stopped before, the same way. In one case, the officer was SO MAD he was shouting at me and had his hand on his gun. I simply responded to him with respect, I called him sir, I did not threaten him, and within 30 seconds the situation was defused, and he allowed me to explain and then after that he breathed slowly and apologized.
I have many GOOD friends that are GOOD cops. One is a next door neighbor, several are very close friends and family. You guys that don't know cops closely have no idea of the stress they go through. My neighbor talks to me a lot about the stress he has when he has to stop someone, or worse yet they take off running and you have to chase them, and you have no idea if you are going to live through the next 10 minutes. One wrong 'oh sir could you-' bam you are dead.
I had the oppurtunity one time to go through a training with some cops in a real life situation using real bullets. I've never been the same. The training course was done with high tech mirrors so they were using live rounds. The actors were playing the parts of the people being stopped, and doing what various people that are stopped do, as you are seeing on the news right now. OH MY GOODNESS, you guys cannot imagine the stress. I was shaking. Gave me a whole new perspective on what these guys go through on a daily basis. I couldn't do it.
Whatever reason you have been detained, the best thing for you to do is to be calm and respectful and answer their questions. AFTER you have let them realize you are not a threat, talk nicely, and almost every time, the situation will be defused and you both can move on. Most people don't get that. Don't think of it as I wasn't doing anything this guy has no right to question me. Think of it as this guy thinks I'm a threat for some reason and he is probably scared of what I might do, and I need to let him know that I am not a threat.
If you were black, those experiences end differently. I’ve done time behind bars. Ever been there? Do a year or two behind the irons? If not, I can tell you that there is very much systemic racism just from seeing how differently blacks are treated by law enforcement. There were blacks who were convicted for much less than what I was (conspiracy to possess cannabis) and got sentenced two to three times as long. Maybe the next time you jay walk a cop will sneak up from behind, grab you and cuff you. For jay walking where there isn’t a sidewalk. That only happens to blacks. Anyone who thinks the plight of blacks in this country when it comes to the police and the justice system isn’t horribly real are incredibly ignorant. Just because our white asses don’t have the same experience does not mean it isn’t real. It’s very real. Jesus Christmas people open your eyes and ears. Maybe have a real talk with some black folk in your neighborhoods. Get off your perspective and step into their reality for a freaking minute.

Another white person denying things are different for black people and expecting them to deal with situations in the same way as them 🙄 Literally ALL that's required here is empathy! They're TELLING you what's happening to them! The news stories are there for you to see! Plus some classic whatabouttery with "some cops are good." Wow, I didn't know that! 🙄 And the "I won't be back to check the replies." So a dump and run basically 🙄 I quite liked that actually, good tactic! 😂
Well, I tried to give an honest opinion, and I did log in and check, and this is what I find. sigh.
This response is EXACTLY WHY I HATE TO COMMENT AT ALL ON THREADS LIKE THIS. I should have done what I normally try to do and just stayed away.
LKeet6 I don't feel that I said anything at all in my post to elicit the sarcasm or whatever it is you came back with. I was simply stating my opinions based on real people I know, real situations that have happened to me and people I know, and just trying to offer another side of the coin. I didn't feel like I put anything in my post that would make anyone upset, or roll their eyes, or come back at me with such a vehement attitude. I was just saying this it how it is based on real things that I know. You can watch and believe the news and someone else all you want. I was relating real life experiences, hoping to show the other side of the matter where I live. I'm sure it is different in other places, but not here.
But reactions like this are the reason I have been slacking off from this board, this league, and your league and board in general. Go ahead give a comeback, call it what you want, spin it however you want. I don't wanna talk to you any more or have anything to do with you if this is the way you debate things. Responses like this just make me mad at you. And I don't want to be mad, I just want to play a game. Guess I'll just go back to not even checking off topic stuff. Or as you say, "dump and run" . Or as I would rather call it, you aren't worth my time.
As far as defunding police, I'm at the point I say do it. Lets get rid of all police. I can protect myself and my family. I'm ready. Everyone for their selves, lets do this, I can handle it. Lets see what happens.in the wild west.
ezzinomilonga not sure if you got the idea from my post or not, but if you did, I never said anything at all about police beating anyone if you don't show any respect to him. I was simply trying to make the point that if you show a bit of respect and treat the policeman like another human being, most situations can be defused and are non issues. Most cops are humans. They will treat other people the same way they are treated. Its basic human nature. Most are not trained in the psychological part of how to deal stuff. Instead of defunding police, maybe we should increase funds and help them know better how to deal with this stuff.
Sorry I made you mad josia. Not sure what that has to do with playing USE. There really wasn't much sarcasm in my response. It was a genuine response. You made me pretty mad too. Pretty mad at how lacking in empathy and refusing to see what is happening your comments were. I'd be very surprised if you didn't realise that your comments would be controversial. So I guess you have a choice. There's no need for you to never come and make comments in these threads! But you need to realise the stronger your comments, the stronger the response will likely be. Race is probably the moral/political issue I feel strongest about, so I get mad pretty easy too. I feel I steered clear of any personal attacks on you, and stuck to the points. "Only saying your experiences" in a way that denies the situation BLM are fighting for isn't really only saying what you see. It's a lot more than that. I think there was another way to make your point, less controversially, without all the caps for example, that would've got a less strong comeback.

Did you not read what I posted? I literally detailed an experience my boss actually had, that happened to him, that contradicts what you said only happens to blacks. He was in Myrtle Beach, walking down the sidewalk, minding his own business but looking a bit shady, and he was grabbed, cuffed, took to the station, and jailed. It doesn't only happen to blacks. Dude that isn't hearsay or something I saw on fox, that actually happened to someone I know I heard it first hand.
I have never been behind the bars, but I have been in front of them a lot. I have extensive experience working in jails, and with law enforcement. Don't assume I don't know what I'm talking about. But you can rest assured I'm just speaking from my own real experiences.
I'm not saying this doesn't happen in you guys areas. I was only trying to relate, with my original post, what has happened to me. Real facts. My customer base right now is at least 50% black. I was in all black neighborhoods twice this week, only white person there. I have talked with the ones I know about this. You seem to want to assume all kinds of things about me. Perhaps you should realize that there are people different than you think they are, with different experiences.
With my original post in this thread, I was only trying to make a couple points based on what I know for a fact, based on my experiences. If you guys don't believe me, or don't get that I'm only just trying to impart things I know, without arguing/debating with you about them, then I don't know what else to say.

Lkeet, your comments made me mad because they felt directed at my comments, which I did not mean to be upsetting to anyone, I was only trying to impart my own experiences related to the topic. I wasn't really expecting anyone to comment back to me, especially with sarcasm and the eye rolling emojis. Not sure where you are, but where I live, that means 'you are a stupid idiot' and I took it that way, whether or not you meant it that way.
As for USE, when I compete with people, or game with people, if they make me mad, I no longer have a desire to game with them. Just me. I guess the best thing for me to do is to stay out of controversial threads, but like I said, I was sitting there yesterday waiting for a customer, and was perusing the message board and since golf talk doesn't really interest me, I came to the off topic section to see what was here. Read a couple things, and couldn't stop myself from posting a response. I'd say lesson learned, but I know me, and i can't stay away. LOL
I think you guys don't realize what I mean to get across when I say only my experiences. I honestly don't have the time at the moment to type things out, got to get some things done irl.

I'm glad you're not angry anymore 👍 With the USE thing, I just don't get it. You're treated great over there, just like everyone, I've never brought up these debates over there, and if you don't consider me a friend over there, you certainly have others. You've not been around for a while over there anyway, so I'm struggling with this idea, to be honest. I'm not going to stop saying my opinions over here, just as you're not, so I guess that's your choice. If you genuinely enjoy USE, I think you should get over it and play. If you're enjoyment is genuinely affected enough to not play, due to some random debates, in another forum, with one member of that society, that's pretty disappointing, and also your choice, I guess. I'm honestly flabbergasted you didn't realise people would react to your comments. I can obviously completey accept you didn't want to outright offend anyone, but to not realise at all that they were controversial thoughts? Surprising. Oh well. You have every right to express your opinions and experiences. I'd also advise to toughen up and keep saying them and then deal with the fallout. This thread is about BLM matter, for crying out loud, was always going to get people steamed up. Much like the covid thread, people have avoided personal attacks, so whilst challenging, I'd say it's doing ok. I apologise if my sarcasm upset you. I don't feel it crossed any lines but, like you, I don't set out to offend people. Sorry mate.

I understood what you were saying. But that whole respect thing tilts me the wrong way big time. It isn’t because they do not show respect. Most are more respectful than whites because they are aware of the consequences. That implies that every unarmed black person who has been killed by a cop deserved it. I can’t tell you how much that rubs me the wrong way. We all have anecdotal stories of our own experiences in life. But we aren’t black and have never had their experience. It isn’t hard to recognize though. It’s plain to see that they have never been treated fairly in this country on several levels including law enforcement and the courts. To generalize the abuse suffered by blacks at the hands of law enforcement as something they deserved because they are disrespectful is utter BS. As I said before, I have respect for law enforcement but they need some serious reform in how they deal with people. I get the job is stressful and the next traffic stop could be a bullet thru the officers head. The job isn’t easy. There are horrible people out there doing some heinous shyt. Not every black person is that kind of person. But they are treated as such. It needs to stop. All men are created equal, we need to uphold that value as if it truly means something.

TLDR version : its all good, and it just occurred to me that you don't realize I'm playing this week in USE because I'm in the PC group and I think you are in the console group. I sat out Shincock or however you spell it because I just don't like that course, then forgot to play another week. All good.

And the huge majority of them (of course i can talk only about the situation here in Italy, but i believe is the same evereywhere) is absolutely aware of the responsability requires their work. And they absolve their duties with great humanity and common sense, in a country in which is really uneasy to be a policeman. To be honest. There are of course rotten apples, but they are in every human group. Weird diversion here, but I saw you mention Italy, and saw the Sheed quote in your profile... do you follow basketball and/or the travails of Gigi Datome?

There are of course rotten apples, but they are in every human group. Weird diversion here, but I saw you mention Italy, and saw the Sheed quote in your profile... do you follow basketball and/or the travails of Gigi Datome? Of course i do. NBA and Indycar are the only sports i still continue to follow, no matter what (of course i wish to follow golf too, but i have not tv..and the only tv channel i could follow on streaming is blocked here in Italy, never understood why). Anyway..about Gigi, i read just some hour ago he signed for Milano after a pair of very difficult seasons at Istanbul mainly cause injuries and i think is a very good move for him, i believe he made his time at Fenerbahce, for various reasons. 5 years are more than a full cycle for almost every team on almost every sport and the Fener, after the last Euroleague won, started to struggle to stay competitive every year and, even consdering the troubles of their president, probably needs a pair of seasons of rebuilding, although they are real genius to find the best possible players for their needs. This move is a good thing for Milano too..is a team with a very ambitious program (but is also true that EVERY year Milano has a very ambitious program ), but this time they have one of the best (if not the best) european coaches and a great backcourt, for the European level. And Gigi could be really the kind of man that Milano needs, more than just simply as a player, especially for the lockerroom's dynamics. And for those situations in which the ball will burn. Of course, probably this team still misses something in the "big men" rotation to be competitive in Eurolega. But if they stays healthy they could be a real menace almost for everyone in Europe, in the next future. In Italy, on paper there is no story..Milano has a budget more than triple of every other contender..but luckily money has never scored points. It will be interesting to follow. Anyway..i always loved the guy. Is the typical player who is not he best doing anything, but his a very humble and good guy, with 2 big balls such that you would always prefer to play with than against him. But, to tell you the whole truth, i hoped until the end to see him to sign with Sassari. I don't know how much you know about Italy, but Gigi is from Sardegna, the other great island of Italy, with Sicily. Is a very particular land, i could say it is actually a country apart, partially cause it has been totally abandoned by every Italian government, since the 1861 (year of the unification of Italy ) and partially because they have habits and also a language totally different. And, even more than sicilian people, sardininans are people very particular, very tough and very proud of their roots. And the basket team of Sassari is actually some kind of miracle by a good number of seasons..not only cause it stays easily in the Serie A (that should be considered already a miracle, comparing the budgets) but they also are winning championships and they are not only always competitive despite the lot of money less they have, but they plays probably the best basket you can find in Italy (even if Bologna, with the serbian wizard, probably is now the most exciting place where to see play basket..that man is an artist!) Anyway...probably to see Gigi to play for Sassari it would be the most romantic solution and for this reason i would love it...but he's still young after all. There is still time to see it happens.

Haha, looks like I made a good intuitive guess!
I asked because I was coaching with the Pistons when Gigi played for them. All around one of the nicest people I've ever met, and easily one of the best shooters I ever rebounded for. For whatever reason, though, I think something happened to him mentally in the games that messed him up and he couldn't make any shots.
I still follow him on Instagram, he's a pretty interesting follow. I'm not sure where it is, probably Sardegna like you mentioned, but he's always out in the water in one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. I haven't been able to follow him very closely in the Euroleague, but I always wish him well because he was such a good guy. I just started diving into Euroleague data for my work, and I see a bunch of the old Pistons guys I worked with over there (Peyton Siva, Greg Monroe, Jonas Jerebko), so he has sort of come back on my radar. I also saw he announced the Milano move, so hopefully he has some luck in his home country!
