One of my girlfriends aunts works on this side of the border and commutes every day. But a shutdown seems inevitable. So why not just restrict the US from traveling there now. We've just shut down bars, restaunts and casinos in NY but what's stopping people from heading north. It will happen. People here have been so irresponsible about the whole situation. Honestly, it's in Canada's best interest to keep us out. We are literally a threat. You have multiple girlfriends? Piiiimp. Oops. Was that a grammatical error or a freudian slip? The world will never know.

Let’s not lump all Americans, or anyone for that matter, into categories just because there are some nuts out there... I am a gun owner and support the citizen’s right to own firearms but absolutely do not fall into the mindset of stocking up for some apocalypse or walk around looking for a reason to pull the trigger.. These events bring out all the idiots. They love times like this. But they are the loud minority and the media loves to give them all the attention Edit: That being said... go ahead, try to take my toilet paper. Make my day... Just saw a local news story that reported a gun shop owner in Arcadia, California saying most of the people buying guns at his shop were of Asian ethnicity. They were being threatened simply due to their race and have started fearing for their lives. We have been notified that Reno is under a shutdown for non-essential businesses. Casinos can still keep gaming open but have to shut down their restaurants. Makes zero sense to me. Slot machines are closer to each other than airline seats in some places. The casinos only need to wipe them down every two hours. This town is going to have a real zombie crawl soon.

I find it amusing the people buying toilet paper and bottle water make fun of people that hunt and can survive. Guess it's not so funny now is it.
Just shows how weak the human race has become. Better yet how full of sh%$ it is.
Darwin ... laughing.

A co-worker shared this with all of us in the office:
Wondering if you should travel or go to that meeting or event? LISTEN UP!
There are 3170 ICU beds in Canada. That’s it for all critical care. ICUs in Canada already run at 100% capacity so there’s no room for a surge in demand. At least 10% of people who get COVID-19 require hospitalization. At least 5% of people who get COVID-19 will require mechanical ventilation.
Consider for a moment that there are 37,000,000 people in Canada. Experts estimate that 30%-70% of the Canadian population will get this virus because nobody is immune. Even if you assume 30% that means 11,000,000 infected and ultimately 555,000 requiring ventilation!! Recovery takes weeks. We don’t have anywhere near the capacity to deal with these demands.
Not only will we not have ICU beds and ventilators for COVID patients (not by a long shot). We won’t have health care resources for anyone else (heart attacks, strokes, trauma, any need for surgery).
Slowing down the viral spread is what’s needed to save as many people as possible so that our doctors don’t have to tell patients we don’t have a ventilator for you. It is strongly suspected that people can be contagious for a few days before they even have symptoms. The goal is to reduce the speed of transmission by social distancing. Measures such as social distancing are impossible when in a crowded space such as a plane or ANY event. I totally understand the idea that “I’m young and healthy I won’t need a bed” but it doesn’t just affect the person travelling it affects the community health care resource for everyone in that community. Please consider the vulnerable people in our communities and their families.
Stay home. Cancel all your meetings and events. Share this post*. Talk to your family and friends (via phone and social media). Every little bit helps.

Dr. Lucie Filteau Front line MD at The Ottawa Hospital All part of flattening that curve. I was watching Live PD the other night. Cop had pulled over a guy, had him sitting on the curb waiting for paramedics to come check him out. The guy asked the cop why and the officer said coronavirus. The guy responded with "you believe in that coronavirus?" These are the people that scare me the most. It's not a "hoax". But that is why there are people like this thinking it may not be real.

My company (~4,000 employees) has gone 100% work from home for at least the next 2 weeks. Not ideal for my working style as I have to try to lead meetings and working sessions over the phone with 10+ people but we gotta make due with what’s going on. I’m just really surprised this feels so much different than the response to Swine Flu in 2009. I mean that got bad with around 1 billion people getting sick and hundreds of thousands dying... maybe we’ve learned our lesson from that one and are making sure those same numbers don’t happen here. I abhor those that insist most conspiracy theories are fact but I truly feel that somebody isn't telling us the entire story about this virus. My thoughts are based on the the flu season we have every year wherein 10s of 1,0000s die. That is in one country never mind worldwide. Why is the world reacting to this in the "panic" fashion we are? So far we know almost for certain the mortality rate is higher, probably significantly higher. We also have a strong suggestion it is more contagious and with a much higher percentage of asymptomatic carriers. Finally, flu has been tracked and dealt with for decades now. They can predict the numbers who will catch it and die from it, and importantly, when it will happen with a degree of accuracy. Plus we have the flu jab. Therefore it's much easier to control it. It can not spiral out of control. Corona is a completely different kettle of fish. People may be overreacting a tad, social media is definitely whipping people up, but if you only go off what serious websites are saying, which is basically quoting scientists, treating this like flu is just as silly, if not moreso.

Nodding their heads up and down and bleating. (Did people see when he said at the start of this that doctors had said to him he was really smart and if he hadn't have been president he should have become a doctor?!) Being in thrall to guns likewise. Having a gun is not going to make ANY difference to the situation with Corona. People WILL be needing toilet paper. I'm not saying the panic buying is good, far from it, but stocking up on toilet paper is way less dumb than stocking up on guns.

We have 40 rolls of Christmas wrapping paper as backup, we're good (except for the foil ones lol) As for Trump - and i really do not want to make this a political thread but it's difficult to discuss the virus without talking about what leadership is doing. Today he says he thought it was a pandemic for a long time now. I SAW him all it call it a Democratic hoax.... and his supporters believed him. Many still do. This is dangerous and it is the definition of what people meant when during the 2016 election when they were saying he was dangerous. Stay safe my friends, regardless of the politics. We love you all and you all deserve to remain healthy, safe and a life well-lived after this passes - and it will pass. Heed the lessons from 1918. #SocialDistanceFTW.

Because I could take your sh%$ . See how that works.
