How is it affecting your lifestyle, if at all? We haven't had too much of an outbreak here in northern Nevada yet. Hope it stays that way. Even though I'm high risk for major issues if I contract it because of COPD, I'm not paranoid over it but i am taking the basic precautions. I've always practiced clean hands anyways due to always being the cook around here. I do find myself doing some social distancing, especially at the grocery market. Since they have reported that the virus can live for several days outside of a host, I've been wiping down stuff we bring home from the store. Also not using any paper cash at all. Here is a link to a live global map if interested > coronavirus-map.com/

Effecting my work more than anything. My company is taking it very seriously and is making people work from home if they’ve traveled and are planning for a company-wide mandatory work from home if/when it gets worse. I guess there’s a few cases in the Twin Cities but nothing crazy.

Same here in AU - i am in a part of the business that i work for that plays a critial role in the BCP (Business Continuity Plan) for instances just like this.
We have over 400 people in customer service roles that i have a plan for based on exposure - just waiting to be told its to be implemented or not.
I am also sick (pun intended) of people suggesting this is just a flu. People need to get educated and understand that this kind of case has wider implications than just people getting sick. If you think you are doing enough do a bit more.

Right. It is similar to a flu as far as transmission and symptoms, however it’s a virus the world has not been exposed to before, so there is absolutely no immunity or vaccinations for it so it will spread much easier. Plus I think I saw so far it has shown a slightly higher mortality rate than flu, but I could be wrong there

my brother is a doctor in the army and is in Tacoma Washington. He's neck deep in figuring out how to move things forward ethically. I also have a friend who is a geneticist with the USDA (which sounds like it might not be connected...but it is) who is even now running tests because it appears the virus is able to be carried by domestic dogs and pigs which could keep things around for a long time. They didn't even get the strains for testing till this week so that's great.
Honestly the best case is a bad flu season. Worst case is like the 1918 spanish flu... Just have to see how it goes. But I for one am sick of folks that only think "oh well I'm healthy and my kids are healthy so anything that's done to interrupt my life is stupid". *sigh*

Great stuff Jeff.... see below a very small part of that article i thought is quite direct....
When you’re done reading the article, this is what you’ll take away:
The coronavirus is coming to you. It’s coming at an exponential speed: gradually, and then suddenly. It’s a matter of days. Maybe a week or two. When it does, your healthcare system will be overwhelmed. Your fellow citizens will be treated in the hallways. Exhausted healthcare workers will break down. Some will die. They will have to decide which patient gets the oxygen and which one dies. The only way to prevent this is social distancing today. Not tomorrow. Today. That means keeping as many people home as possible, starting now.
As a politician, community leader or business leader, you have the power and the responsibility to prevent this.
You might have fears today: What if I overreact? Will people laugh at me? Will they be angry at me? Will I look stupid? Won’t it be better to wait for others to take steps first? Will I hurt the economy too much?
But in 2–4 weeks, when the entire world is in lockdown, when the few precious days of social distancing you will have enabled will have saved lives, people won’t criticize you anymore: They will thank you for making the right decision.

Not trying to down play how serious people should be taking this, but that article is serious fear mongonring. Promoting hysteria and fear just causes irrationality in the masses.

A healthy 30 year old could test positive and not feel terrible but pass it along to someone else and eventually kill them. Stay safe and educated everyone, talk openly about it. Don't listen to any politician. Listen to the health professionals.

Kind of agree, that made it sound like the second coming of The Black Plague (aka Black Death). I think most of us here know horrible that was. Over 100 million dead, probably much more. I don't see this getting that bad simply because the younger folk aren't affected as much as older people with other health issues. But this is still serious and needs to be handled properly.

Well the whole NBA season just got suspended so that has an effect on some entertainment that a I like. IF Fred Hoiberg tests positive, I think that’s the end of the conference tourneys and March Madness for a while. Wouldn’t be shocked at all to see this announced overnight. I think either way though even if he doesn’t have it, there is no way MM is being played after the NBA set the precedent. edit - all clear on Hoiberg, still think it’s just a matter of time though.

It's definitely a weird time to be alive right now. As a teacher, I've been trying my best to keep my distance from students as best I can. I've also gone through enough hand sanitizer this week to make my hands look like an 85 year old. Tomorrow is my last day of work before a two week Spring Break where we have no plans, so will probably stay close to home and monitor things as they unfold. The big question mark is what happens after the break. People are still travelling all over for vacation, so I won't be surprised if my 2 weeks off turns into a month.

Saw the CDC has now declared it a pandemic. In my opinion this would have resulted in death tolls similar to the 1918 Spanish Flu but with modern communication systems and knowledge about how diseases spread and how to contain them, we shouldn’t see an event like that. However, there are many more people on Earth now living closer together, more planes in the air, more cars on the road, people travel further and have more means of transportation so it comes down to our willingness to limit those luxuries we have now.
Also just got the word from work I am to work from home for the next 2 weeks because I had a meeting at our corporate office last week that was just discovered might have been exposed. No argument there
