Thank you Vic. So it's a bunch of hearsay at the moment? Nobody despises Trump as much as I do. Every fiber of my being despises the fact that he even exists on this planet, let alone is POTUS. But y'all know that already from that other thread so...... With that said, I can't see this report as being something that really happened although I wouldn't be surprised if those words came out of Trump's liar-mouth. But he can't have everything he wants. Hell, the man is a natural born liar and bulshtter so he may have just been blowing smoke to amuse himself and get a rise out of the media. The story is a bit confusing to me on several fronts...... First it says, "U.S. administration was looking into how it could gain access to a potential vaccine being developed by a German firm, CureVac." Everyone wants to gain access to a vaccine. Second, "Trump had offered funds to lure CureVac to the United States, and the German government was making counter-offers to tempt it to stay" This indicates moving operations to the US, not owning the vaccine for US usage only. It also indicates Germany is doing the same to keep them there. Third, "Welt am Sonntag also quoted an unidentified German government source as saying Trump was trying to secure the scientists’ work exclusively, and would do anything to get a vaccine for the United States, “but only for the United States.” - this is complete hearsay without any collaborating information at this point. Fourth, "CureVac issued a statement on Sunday, in which it said: “The company rejects current rumours of an acquisition”. The firm said it was in contact with many organisations and authorities worldwide, but would not comment on speculation and rejected “allegations about offers for acquisition of the company or its technology.” ................. So, someone is bullshtting someone, but who? Lol. We'll know eventually. Other people had to be in the room besides Trump and CureVac. Fifth, there is this > "Germany’s foreign trade law, under which Berlin can examine takeover bids from non-EU, so-called third countries “if national or European security interests are at stake”......... I think that makes any claims non-starters, yes? Be careful of rumor mills in times like these. It's important to try to verify facts and understand reporting. Considering the 5th point above, Trump can "want" until the cows come home but he isn't going to get.

Yeah guys don't turn this into a political debate please! I was addressing the vaccine thing from the article. The political tones are just collateral damage, not my main talking point. It is a conversation where the two will cross though. Unfortunately, it cannot be avoided on some points as we try to get through the pandemic. Now I'll wash my hands of this (pun intended)

I'm sorry fellas but under your current president you are potentially the most evil country on planet earth (certainly giving Israel a run for its money) I have read that children are not as affected by it. Good news for you. But those who are stuck in the mud, a.k.a. the elderly, are highly affected.

IL has closed all bars and sit in restaurants as of tomorrow. I still am on for my 12 hour shifts all week at my Italian owned (with Italian presence) company this week...

My company (~4,000 employees) has gone 100% work from home for at least the next 2 weeks. Not ideal for my working style as I have to try to lead meetings and working sessions over the phone with 10+ people but we gotta make due with what’s going on.
I’m just really surprised this feels so much different than the response to Swine Flu in 2009. I mean that got bad with around 1 billion people getting sick and hundreds of thousands dying... maybe we’ve learned our lesson from that one and are making sure those same numbers don’t happen here.

Worth watching on the Smithsonian Channel, "America's Hidden Stories: Pandemic 1918"
Incredible.

I abhor those that insist most conspiracy theories are fact but I truly feel that somebody isn't telling us the entire story about this virus. My thoughts are based on the the flu season we have every year wherein 10s of 1,0000s die. That is in one country never mind worldwide. Why is the world reacting to this in the "panic" fashion we are?

Why is the world reacting to this in the "panic" fashion we are? The "panic" is necessary because of the delayed reactions and lack of a plan by a lot of countries. (See: Italy, US, France, Spain). I agree it shouldn't have come down to this, but it has. This isn't the flu. We have to stop comparing it to that. It's completely different. We have an immunization for the flu. As well as an international effort to combat it. And still 10,000 people die. Now imagine how many more would die if those efforts weren't made or available. Now imagine if the fatality rate was 10 times higher, and it was spreading so fast that eventually there will be more icu level cases than there are icu beds. That's the coronavirus. Protect yourself and your loved ones. Self-isolation is not a panic. It's a step in the process.

Thanks for your reply but since it is filled with a lot of imagine this or that...it's just as bad as any other conspiracy theory. I agree it is not like the seasonal flu, so let me play your game....what if they come up with a vaccine, what's the panic all about then? What if like AIDS, there is no vaccine. You say this is not the flu, what is it then? I agree with your thinking. I'm just think there is something out there that we are not being told about...like this is not the flu but a whole lot worse. BUT BUT BUT...I am still living my life my way. The same way I have lived for decades and will protect myself from these things using common sense. I have had the flu but once in my life and that was after I received a flu shot....I have never had that shot since (40 + years). So common sense practices will protect most of us from this round of mom nature.
