Panic buying toilet roll is stupid, panic buying guns is very, VERY stupid.
We shouldn't be panic buying groceries, because shops will stay open and for the most part everyday items will be available. Nobody is going to starve. But people will be needing food and toilet roll.
We shouldn't be buying guns because there will be literally ZERO gun related scenarios coming out of corona. It's f'ing moronic.
I don't buy the fear excuse. Everyone's scared, you don't see other countries experiencing a huge upsurge in gun buying; or knife buying in countries where guns are outlawed.
No, this paranoid gun purchasing comes from America's obsession, bordering on fetishisiation, with violence and post apocalyptic scenarios.

Hmmm, "blah blah blah..." That's definitely a strong argument, not sure I can come back from that. But I'll try- On the first blah, I think you've misrepresented my point there. If you'd said "bahl," I might have seen where you were coming from, but I'd still disagree. I'm fairly sure your second blah was deemed to be inaccurate in Gregor Mendel's work on the law of assortment. As for the third blah, that's definitely a strong argument against my assertion that there will be no post apocalyptic gun fights. I'm not sure I can counter that one. You might have got me there...

It is the same BS from you and your buddies. America is sh%$ and full of a bunch of redneck gun touting Trump supporters.
What is the obsession with America? Why do you care what we do? How does some moron who buys some guns and ammo and probably has no clue how to use it have any affect on you? Worry about your own country. I think you have plenty to worry about.
I get it though. You know what is best for my country. I mean how can you not.

I will stop. Sorry.
On topic I have three very good friends who own restaurants. This is killing them and their employees. Feel horrible for them. Try and support you local restaurants by getting some food to go here and there.
My wife goes to work this weekend in the ICU. Very concerned about her getting it but she is in great health so she should be ok even if she does get. Which could mean I get it. Not worried about myself I just would not want to give to my dad or mom. Which would be easy to do since we work together. What a mess.

My work-buddy and I go to the same place every Wednesday and decided to order to-go today because of the Virus. Well, when I got there to pick up my order, the place that is usually full and packed during lunch hour (at least a 30-40 table capacity) had 1 person sitting down and eating. I was very saddened by this as they are great people like I'm sure most restaurant owners are. I wish this whole thing would blow over and get the @!$# out of here.

I guess I will "stop" too.
But again, to me this is ALL "politics," and going back through the last few pages to see how we were diverted away from simple discussion to arguing was interesting...

So far my restaurant has been able to make do. We rely on alot of the businesses around us. So with them being shut down its avoided the large "rushes" at regular times, which is good as we have to keep less than 50 in the building according to the law today... Or this hour... I'd prefer to just shutdown but feel bad for the employees that need to work, so we've been giving them choices of days off/shorter shifts amongst them as we're still doing about 60-70% of normal sales. What's really surprising is how many older people are still coming. A guy last night came in who uses oxygen to get around. Couldn't believe it.

My brother is another innocent victim. His only source of income is as a Karaoke DJ. The bars he works in are now shut for a couple of weeks at the least. Now he has to survive on just SSI. It ain't much.

Not worried about myself I just would not want to give to my dad or mom. Which would be easy to do since we work together. What a mess. Hey Paul, nobody wants to see anyone suffer losses of any kind. Most people are no longer getting a paycheck to buy take out from restaurants. Hell, they won't even be able to buy toilet paper when they can find it at some point. This is why the government needs to keep money in people's wallets. And it needs to be more than $1,000. Probably more like $3,000. If they don't, every business in this country will close. As for the Constitutional aspect of shutdowns, the government is well within its right to do so when it comes to public safety. Their #1 priority is to keep us safe against all foreign and domestic enemies - including pandemics. #1. Tops. Above and beyond anything else. If there is an enemy putting the general public at risk, then the Constitution gives the government the right to intervene. That is the point of declaring state and national emergencies. It gives state and federal governments the leeway to ensure public safety. When it is a medical concern, your state public health officials wield a lot of power in this area - but it has to be "overwhelmingly in the public interest, rooted in rational, scientific ends and done by the least intrusive means possible..." A man in Missouri left quarantine to attend a father-daughter dance at a nearby hotel prompting county health officials to warn “he must remain in his home or they will issue a formal quarantine that will require him and the rest of his family to stay in their home by the force of law.”
You don’t have a right to assemble against the backdrop of known public health risk. The CDC has guidelines on legal authorities governing isolation and quarantine as well as the types of laws and regulations that come into play during a pandemic.I hope that helps with understanding why the government can do what they are doing. The links are very informative. But here are a couple of keys from them: Public Health Service Act
The Public Health Service (PHS) Act forms the foundation of the HHS’ legal authority for responding to public emergencies by authorizing the HHS Secretary to take key actions, such as lead all federal public health and medical response, declare a public health emergency, assist states in meeting health emergencies, maintain the Strategic National Stockpile, and control communicable diseases. The PHS Act was amended by the Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness Act (PAHPA) of 2006External and the Pandemic and All-Hazards Reauthorization Act (PAHPRA) of 2013. Quarantine and IsolationThe federal government derives its authority for isolation and quarantine from the Commerce Clause of the U.S. Constitution.
Under section 361 of the Public Health Service Act (42 U.S. Code § 264), the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services is authorized to take measures to prevent the entry and spread of communicable diseases from foreign countries into the United States and between states. The authority for carrying out these functions on a daily basis has been delegated to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). So this is all Constitutional. If you heard that unconstitutional stuff from someone else you are now armed with facts to correct them.

All casinos in Nevada are under a shutdown. Talk about pounding an economic nail into a coffin. Especially for Las Vegas. But ski resorts up here in the northern part of the state are also closed. Those workers need to be paid or else we will go from pandemic to pandemonium. We do not leave our brothers and sisters behind to die over freaking money of all things.

Prediction - most western countries will be adopting some form of helicopter money/emergency universal basic income scheme within a month.
It's the only way to prevent millions upon millions of people becoming destitute through job losses. Whole sectors of our economies are going to totally shut down for months.
Trying to constantly plug all the massive holes that exist in multiple social security schemes just won't cut it. And it's too slow. in the UK it takes 6 weeks minimum to receive any benefits once you've applied, and that's in normal times.
Quickly giving money directly to people is going to be the last & only game in town. What can i say, everyone is a socialist in a crisis.....

I think they're eventually going to get over this nonsense of shutting everything down and having people go back to normal...
These complete shutdowns of everything nonessential is going to ruin the economy.
