Handicap Event 29 Preview - APFELSTRUDEL FEAST
For the next item on the World Tour menu we head east to Austria and the Vienna Golf Club, yet another humdinger of a course from Adam Benjamin (Arctic Fury). Undulating and far from straightforward, you will have to think your way around and not get greedy. The course is not overly long at around 7,200 yards, but just to make things more difficult there is a fair amount of strategically placed water, and it will only take one bad decision or errant shot to put a good-looking round in jeopardy!!
After last week’s event I have to announce that Les (Daddygoat) has been relieved of any conditions-setting duties in future – I think he has enough Admin work to take care of without having to worry about being lynched by a herd of old goats…

Handicap Event 28 RESULT - TOGGENBURGER CLASSIC
Man of the moment Yorkybrom (Les) made it 2 wins in 2 events as he romped to a 7-stroke victory at Hallstatt North - a win that lifts him from 22nd to 17th in the Money List. Les really won this tourney in the first two rounds, posting the best opening day score and then immediately following that with the best score of the event in Round 2. Art claimed his second runner-up spot of the year while Simon's third place, his fourth of the season, sees him gain ground on Money List leader Les Souter, who came in 5th and was one of only five players to break par on this difficult course.
The best third round score, a 66, was recorded by Bozo1942, but he paid for it in the final round in atrocious conditions, taking 22 more strokes than he did in Round 3. Best closing round came from Cajuncapgun (Nathan) whose fine 71 meant he was the only golfer to break par on the final day.
As 23 started the event I thought there might have been more finishers, but thanks to the 18 that did complete all four rounds - your support is much valued! Next tour stop is Austria, and we are now getting close to the end of our time in Europe with only about a third of the tour left...

Handicap Event 30 Preview – PASTA LA VISTA
We’re off to one of my favourite countries – Italy, and the Umbria Golf Club, yet another stunning course from Arctic Fury (Adam Benjamin). Having visited Umbria I have to say this course totally captures the ambience of the region. Make sure you are not distracted by the stunning views or your scoring will suffer – total concentration is required here and, needless to say, good shot execution.
As there is a handful of par 4’s in excess of 500 yards in length, it has been decided, for the first time this season, NOT to use the longest tees. The hope is that this will make it a more enjoyable experience for all…

Handicap Event 29 RESULT - APFELSTRUDEL FEAST
We had a record number of finishers this week, an amazing 26, which is brilliant, so a big thanks to all who completed this event!! Terbal (Terry) started well with the best opening day score, and although he played solidly for the whole week he could only manage third place, his fifth podium position. One stroke ahead of Terry was RWP (Ian) who for a long time looked good for his first ever tour win, but it wasn't to be, and he finished in the runner-up spot. The eventual victor, winning his third event of the season, was BEEGEE who took the lead after his 61 in Round 3 and extended it on the final day to a 5-stroke winning margin. He moves up to 16 in the Money List, and that's important because the top 16 will be involved in a Matchplay knock-out at the season's end to determine who will be the 2020 Old Goats World Tour Champion.
Special mention to Nickel (Nick) whose 66 on the final day was the best of that round, and also to Yorkybrom (Les) who recorded the best round of the tournament in Round 2, a superb 59!!
We had a handful of new members making their first appearance on the tour, so it's a big, warm welcome to Topflight1234, bpatrick4489, SkyBlueBen and Steve. We hope you will enjoy your time with the herd and help this tour to grow even bigger!
From Austria we travel to warmer climes, so hope to see you all in Italy next week!!

Handicap Event 31 Preview - THE OUZO OPEN
Our last European destination is Greece where we test our skills on the Hellenic Republic Golf Links. Member goat Charles has kindly stepped up to set the conditions for this event and, as the weather forecast is hot all week, that can only mean one thing – the greens will be a little quick! Hopefully there may be a cooling breeze blowing in off the Mediterranean but we will have to wait and see.
I expect a lot of goats will be frequenting the local tavernas to sample the local hooch – but that’s definitely not advisable if you have an early tee-time the following morning!

Handicap Event 30 RESULT - PASTA LA VISTA
This event was dominated from the opening round by SIKKUM (Archie) who blew the field away with an incredible 21-shot winning margin to grab his second win of the season. The result of a drugs test surprisingly showed an absence of any dubious substances in Archie's bloodstream. In a tie for second place were EZ2PUTT (Phil), who carded an ACE on the 17th in Round 2, and Terbal (Terry) who produced the best third round score, 61, along with Bovakian. Both Phil and Terry moved up two positions in the Money List, Phil to 20th and Terry up to 10th.
Thanks to all those who played but, sadly, with the availability now of 2K21, I don't think we'll see as many for our next tourney which is in Greece...

Handicap Event 32 Preview - PERSIAN GULF CLASSIC
The tiny island of Abu Musa is the venue for our next event, and what a course awaits us! Located at the entrance to the Persian Gulf and not far north of Dubai, this tournament may well favour those who enjoy playing in the wind. Several fresh-water wells support a covering of dry grass, which has been fully utilised by designer Col Heisenberg. The holes are set amongst low tidal sands before weaving inland to the mountain ranges often found throughout the Arabic landscapes.
If you survive the first few holes then you can think about carving out a good score. If you don’t you’ll be spending the rest of the round trying to repair the damage…

Handicap Event 31 RESULT - THE OUZO OPEN
And we have yet another first-time winner!! Randy G registered his first tournament victory in his seventh outing, edging cer1949 (Charlie) into second spot, his first top 3 placing in four events, in the process. Both players hit event-best rounds of 61 - Charlie in the opening round and Randy in the third, while Beegee matched that score in the final round. In the toughest round, Round 2, Sikkum (Archie) took the honours with a battling 67. In third spot was Ianhoggard, six strokes adrift of Charlie, and this result means that the top 3 all move up in the Money List. Randy from 26th to 24th, Charlie from 39th to 31st, and Ian from 19th to 17th.
The top dogs all struggled and the only notable change near the top was Bobfletch moving from 3rd to 2nd, mainly due to SimChars1968 (Simon) not playing.
A big thanks to those who took part this week, it would be great to see a significant number finish the season which will be in 10 or 11 weeks' time. Hope to see you all at the next tour stop - in the Persian Gulf!

Handicap Event 33 Preview – Sheikh Rattle & Roll – starting 7th September
Just south of Abu Musa is Dubai, where we take on the flagship course at Emirates Golf Club, the Majlis, which means ‘meeting place’ in Arabic and was the first grass course in the Middle East. The course has developed a worthy reputation worldwide as a testing layout for even the best golfers. The course features hundreds of indigenous species of flora and fauna, beautifully complemented by meandering fairways and seven fresh and saltwater lakes.
It has received many accolades, including ‘Best Course in the Middle East’ and ‘Golf Digest Top 100 courses’, as well as hosting the Dubai Desert Classic every year since 2001. Bring you’re A-Game if you want to be a contender here, and wads of cash if you want to become a full member…

Handicap Event 32 RESULT - PERSIAN GULF CLASSIC
He notched up his first tour win last week and this week he added his second title - Randy G is the man of the moment! The margin of his victory was five strokes, with cer1949 (Charlie) recording his second runner-up finish in five outings. Tied in third place were the top two money-earners, Bobfletch and Les Souter, who both finished three shots behind Charlie. Bob had the scent of victory in his nostrils but a disastrous final round destroyed any winning hopes.
In a sadly depleted field of just eight players we had two new members making their tour debuts - Pommeman and Jasperonex, so welcome to the herd chaps, hope you enjoy the ride!
Hope to see a better turn-out in Dubai this week...

Handicap Event 34 Preview – Trouble at the Oasis – starting 14th September
The Sahara Desert seems an unlikely location for a golf tournament, but that’s exactly what we have next week when we take on the extremely tough Sahara Springs Resort course, the first African venue of our World Tour.
I don’t expect to see many, if any, low scores here, because I anticipate it will play as difficult as a typical US Open course. So don’t despair if you shoot 10 over par in your opening round – you might be leading the tournament!!! Good luck goats!

Handicap Event 33 RESULT - SHEIKH RATTLE & ROLL
Last week Charlie (cer1949) mopped up on the Tour of England. This week he notched up his first Old Goats World Tour victory, taking the number of goats who have won a Handicap event to an incredible 19 - a complete vindication of Daddygoat's handicap system. Languishing in Charlie's wake a further 11 strokes behind was Randy G, while new goat Pommeman was a shot adrift of Randy to claim his first podium position in only his second outing. All three move up on the Money List as a result of their performances, so well played gentlemen!
The best round score was 63 (-9), achieved by Charlie in Round 3 and, a little surprisingly it has to be said, by Terry (Terbal) in Round 4 because he had a miserable first three rounds. Les Souter remains on top of the Money List but Bobfletch closed the gap to just $155 and, with the end of the season almost in sight, the race could go right to the wire.
A new goat, rmblsb, completed his first event in a tie for 6th, so welcome aboard to him, and thanks to all who played in Dubai on what was a fine course. The heat will be on, literally, next week when we visit the Sahara Desert to take on a very tough course, and I hope to see you all there!

Handicap Event 35 Preview - BLACK KNIGHT OPEN
Gary Player Country Club at Sun City was the original intended venue for this event but, after playing a practice round there, I found it very uninteresting and boring. So, after a bit of research, I think I’ve found a little gem to replace it, and that’s another real course in Dainfern Country Club which, ironically, Gary Player helped to design. You must putt well though, as at least a couple of the greens have dangerous slopes that must be thought about carefully. Situated in a valley close to Johannesburg, the course has the River Jukskei running through it, featuring on several holes, and especially the signature hole, the par 5 8th.
Ernie Els won the 1992 South African Masters here, the year after the course opened for business. Will you also be a winner here?

Handicap Event 34 RESULT - TROUBLE AT THE OASIS
Incredibly, we had yet another first-time winner at the Sahara Springs Resort last week! In only his third start Pommeman took the plaudits with a 4-stroke win over Bobfletch, mainly due to a storming final round of 62, the best of the tournament. In third spot was Les Souter, a placing that ensures he remains top of the Money List, but only by the ever-decreasing margin of just $95.
We welcome two new additions to the membership - tio.montour who finished a very creditable 4th, and Pecchia89 who ended the week at a not too shabby level par.
With events running out (only 8 more left to play) who will make the play-off positions? The answer is very unclear as several of the high earners have left the tour for 2K21, so there is still everything to play for!

Handicap Event 36 Preview - Langer's Luxury Classic
Our next stop is idyllic Mauritius and the Ile Aux Touessrok course which is set in an old sugar plantation. The routing takes golfers on an exotic trip through lush mangroves, past shimmering tidal pools and over volcanic lava outcrops, skirting the sandy shoreline on several occasions. The island golf course, designed by Bernhard Langer, is reachable only by a ‘special golf’ boat shuttle from its private jetty or by a scenic helicopter flip.
The par 3's range from 137-184 yards with the scenic 8th being a local favourite. The par 5 11th will present a different challenge depending on conditions as it doglegs 90 degrees 235 yards from the back tees. The deceptively short par 4 5th hole will tempt the golfer to carry a lake and trees to hit the green in one, but be aware of the tidal pool situated along the back and right of the green.
Good luck Goats!
