WE NEED MORE MEMBERS!! PLAYERS HAVE JOINED BUT ARE NOT PLAYING!?
WEEKLY SCRATCH AND HANDICAP EVENTS!

I'm afraid that the reason people are not playing anymore is because of the harsh conditions in the set ups. It's just not doable a/o enjoyable for some. The idea of a handicapped tournament is very good but if winners come in with +20 scores net that should sound the alarm. When the whole field cant play around net par let alone break it, that signals there is something wrong in the set ups. Choosing beautiful courses is great but if the difficulty level is such that most will bomb out, it will chase away players who are looking for enjoyable (if not relaxing) play. I know a lot of players are breaking away for just that reason. I've said it before: tune down the fast & furious conditions, mellow out the set ups, mix up the tee's and try to emulate real life conditions whereby the playability, enjoyment & challenge is balanced out so to give every player a chance to play his/her handicap. The way TOG is going now i'm afraid it's not going to last. Just my 2C.

Event 10 - The Montezuma
This week we find ourselves in Mexico, where our tournament course is the daunting El Pistolero. Matt Geddes, the designer, states that it will provide "a test for all skill levels, as the course plays wide off the tee, but finding the correct angle and distance for an easy approach is tricky. The course is set just outside of some maybe-Mexican resort town...thing."
Thanks to Charles who set the event conditions, and he's plumped for the slightly easier blue tees. To give some variation he wanted to select different tees for each round but, unfortunately, this is not possible due to game restrictions. This is the last opportunity for players to fine-tune their skills before the first Major of the season next week, so fingers crossed for a good turn-out!!

Event 9 RESULT - Cabra Vieja Open
This event was a very close run affair, but in the end it was bozo1942 who climbed to the top of the heap to record his second Handicap trophy of the season!! TheHawg was only one stroke back in second, his first podium finish in three events, with Kennetharry a further shot back to claim third place, his second this year. Skunky and bobfletch posted the best handicap rounds, a pair of impressive 69's, which helped them to respectable finishes.
Now we travel from the Dominican Republic to Mexico, so make sure you pack plenty of toilet paper for our tenth tournament, The Montezuma...

Event 11 Preview - GOATMASTERZ
At last, here we are at our first MAJOR tournament of the World Tour season!! I was tempted to select a different course for this event - but decided to stick with A****** for a couple of reasons. Firstly, it's the ultimate test for your golfing skills. Secondly, I think the goats would expect the course to be A******. And thirdly, what would have been the alternative?!
So, I'm anticipating the handicap scores to be even higher than usual because of the difficulty level, as will the scratch scores for the same reason. I can't give you any information about the weather forecast as the conditions have been set by 'Daddygoat' and I have no idea what they are!! I just hope he's been kind!! Also, I was disappointed to discover that there is only one set of tees so the course will be as long and tough as it normally is.
Just go out there and do your best, and good luck to you all...

Event 10 RESULT - The Montezuma
We had a 'first' last week - two players tied at the top of the leaderboard and sharing the title. Kenneth-H and Les Souter (Daddygoat) finished 3 strokes ahead of Qwizzleman who claimed his first podium place in four outings. Les managed to record the best handicap round of the week, a 74 in Round 3, and his unenviable habit of bogeying the final hole of the last round meant he deprived himself of an outright win!!
Well done also to Backspin000 who finished a very creditable 5th on his Old Goats debut appearance. Well done to the 14 players who completed what was a tough event - but almost certainly not as tough as what's in store next week at Firethorn National for our first Major of the year - The Goatmasterz!! There are plenty of contenders but who will produce the goods to trot away with the goat-hair jacket?!

Congratulations to Les Souter on his first win on the World Scratch Tour with a score of 251 (-37) very well played. Runners up this week with scores of 256 (-32) were SimChars1968 and Kennetharry well played Gents. Finishing 4th just one shot back was Art Vandelay, well played Art. The round of the week goes to SimChars1968 with a great round of 57 in round 3, well done. There was a hole in one scored this week in round 4 on 7th hole by this weeks winner Les, you will be able to see it if you wish soon in our shot Gallery section. In all 14 started and completed the event thanks for your continued support. This week sees the Goats first Major event and what a tough but cracking course we have in store this week Firethorn National ( aka Augusta) it sure is a very tough test, with it being a Major you are playing for double points. Good luck to you all Who will be The GOATMASTERZ Champion this week. FINAL LEADER BOARD

Event 11 RESULT - GOATMASTERZ
Well done to the 15 goats who completed our first Major of the season - we can recommend an excellent trauma psychiatrist for those still reeling from the experience!! In the end, our winner romped home with a 7-stroke winning margin, and that was recent society addition BACKSPIN000, who recorded his first victory in only his second outing!! In second place, his third runner-up spot this year, was Les Souter (Daddygoat) who posted the lowest handicap score of the event, a 73 in Round 2. Third place was claimed by Skunky, a further 3 strokes back. Because of the 'double winnings' this week for a Major, there was a lot of movement in the season's money list. Bobfletch (deputygoat) dropped from 1st to 3rd, and our new leader is Les Souter who jumps up from 3rd. Our Goatmasterz champion, backspin000, leaps from 21st up to 14th, while skunky climbs from 9th up to 5th. Good luck to everyone in Belize this week!! Here's the final Handicap leaderboard...

Well Goats what a week that was with all the trials and tribulations of Firethorn National (Augusterz),not sure about you but my hoofs are worn out, tough course to say the least, but for one goat the huffing and puffing was worth it, Congratulations to our first Major winner Kenneth-H with a fine score of 269 (-19) including a fine 64 in round 3 which proved to be troublesome for the rest of us but having played round 3 with Kenny as Ghost to try match it, I soon found out why, he putted tremendously on the back 9 and chipped in which is what you need to win major or any other tourney, for me that round won it for him, very well played Ken. Runner up this week goes to A Vandelay with a fine score of 271 (-17) having 4 rounds under par is a great achievement, this was Arts second runner up place this season, well played Art. Third place was tied between SimChars1968 and Les Souter both returning scores of 274 (-14) again round 3 proving to be the stumbling block, but none the less good returns, well played gents. Round of the week was shared by Kenneth-H and Les Souter shooting 64. well done chaps. In summary 15 started the event and 15 finished once again Thank you for your continued support. There was a couple of players who haven't played for a while and the goats wish them well Samterence and fralassi2 who were regular players on tour but have not played any TGC or been online since mid March I truly hope they haven't been caught up in this horrible virus going around. We have 4 new members this week and hopefully they will start playing the tours soon Topflight1234, bpatrick4489, Aubrey and Terbal welcome fellas. The Goats travel to Belize this week to compete in the Honduras Hop see you there goats good luck. See results and a lot more at our forum site theoldgoats.proboards.com/FINAL LEADER BOARD

Event 13 Preview - THE GEITUR OPNAR
We leave the Americas and head for the colder climes of the North Atlantic and, specifically, the island of Iceland. Here, our next venue is the amazing Einstakt Foss Golfclubber designed by Brian Jeffords, who tells us "Einstakt Foss Golfkulbbur, translating to 'Unique Waterfall Golf Club' is the national golf course of Iceland. The course is wide and open but don't let that fool you. The slopes and carries will put your club selection to the test. The hazards will only punish a poor shot but will cost you a stroke most of the time. The greens aren't too fast but they will require patience as their breaks will mess with your mind. The views will make sure you enjoy your first round. The course itself will make you come back. Even if you score well you'll swear that you left shots on the course every single time."
So prepare yourselves for another week of little joy and much frustration, because this track will not be easy - just try to enjoy it!! Good luck Goats!!

Handicap Event 12 RESULT - Honduras Hop
A disappointing number of 11 goats completed this event on what was a very good course - and our victor with a good score of -4 was MUSTANGSALLY, a new member playing in their very first World Tour competition, and obviously a force to be reckoned with in the future! Two strokes back in second place was Cajuncapgun, his first podium placing in twelve outings. A further four shots back was Kenneth-H who notched up his third third place of the season. The best round was produced by bozo1942 with a sizzling final round 64 which was good enough to lift him up to fourth spot, but not quite enough to catch Ken. Although Les Souter did enough to hang on to top spot in the money list, there was some other movement in the standings. Kenneth-H moved threateningly from 4th to 2nd, SimChars1968 dropped from 2nd to 3rd, and bobfletch went down from 3rd to 4th. Bozo1942 was elevated from 10th to 7th while cajuncapgun's good performance this week saw him rise from 12th to 8th. The World Tour now leaves the Americas and heads for Europe, but we have a couple of tournaments in the North Atlantic to contend with before that, the first of which takes place in Iceland. So make sure you pack plenty of woolly items and I'll see you all at Einstakt Foss Golfklubber!!
