Congratulations to Kenneth-H on winning this weeks World Scratch Tour with a score of 244 (-40) very well played Ken. Runner up with another fine score and his first runner up spot goes to Cajuncapgun with a score of 246 (-38) just 2 shots back from the winner, a fine performance from him this week, well played Cajuncapgun. Third place went to A Vandelay with a score of 253 (-31) a fine performance again from a guy who is never to far away from the podium, well played Art. The round of the week goes to Kenneth-H with a fine score of 59 in the final round well done. SimChars1968 leads the money list after 9 weeks with Kenneth-H 2nd A Vandelay 3rd and Les Souter in 4th. On his write up the tour organiser deputygoat says "The World Tour now leaves the Americas and heads for Europe, but we have a couple of tournaments in the North Atlantic to contend with before that, the first of which takes place in Iceland. So make sure you pack plenty of woolly items and I'll see you all at Einstakt Foss Golfklubber!! " Good luck Goats. FINAL LEADER BOARD

Event 14 Preview - THE GOAT LEGEND
From Iceland we head east towards the 'Emerald Isle' of Ireland. Our course this week is another Brian Jeffords creation, Olafsen Skerries, and the designers tells us: "Built on and between the Skerries of the north Atlantic, this course is carved from the natural terrain with native grasses and shrubs creating a lovely backdrop to an adventurous and enjoyable round of golf. Hazards abound and you will need to avoid them from the tee if you want to score well. The approach shots must be precise to the rolling greens or you will see your ball working away from the pin most of the time. It's a course where you will shoot well and shoot poorly in back to back rounds. Button your plus fours and knock the dirt from your long spikes! Enjoy your rounds!"
This event takes it's name from a local legend involving St Patrick's goat - as follows: "When Saint Patrick was expelled from Wicklow by the pagan natives he sailed northward and landed on a small island off Skerries. In his honour it became known as Saint Patrick’s island. When the saint arrived on the island he was accompanied by a goat which provided milk. From this island Saint Patrick would come to the mainland to convert the people. While Saint Patrick was ashore one day the people of Skerries visited the island and stole his goat, took it back to the mainland and ate it! When he returned he was furious and bounded with a great leap from his island to Red Island (there is an indentation in the rock which is supposed to be his footprint). He questioned them and when they denied it he took away their power of speech, so that they could only bleat like goats until they eventually admitted their crime.
To this day, people of Skerries are often referred to as Skerries goats!"
Good luck goats - and my advice is stick to eating the vegetation...

The in-game handicap system has been a bone of contention for most players I think. It is completely ridiculous and, because of that, Bob and I have decided to do something.
From next week the main event will be a Scratch event, meaning that when I input the tournament details I will not be 'checking' the handicap box.
There will still be a handicap event but I will be keeping scores manually. Players' in-game handicap figures will not be used - instead we will be adjusting them to half their in-game value.
For example, take someone whose in-game handicap shows as +9.0. Divide that figure by 2 and the answer is 4.5. That is then rounded up to 5 and that will be the handicap used.
Another example would be an in-game handicap of +8.8. Divide that figure by 2 and you get 4.4. That is then rounded down to 4 which would be the handicap used.
Every player's adjusted handicap will be calculated at the beginning of the event - and will be the figure used for the whole of that week's event, it will not change during the tourney.
I will be adding a new column to the leaderboard to show every player's adjusted handicap.
We hope this will even things up a bit, and we will monitor how it pans out, so please bear with us. We are just trying to give everyone a better chance. It also means those who enjoy multiplay will be able to without the handicap system confusing who should be on the Tee.
If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions do please let us know!
Thanks for your continued support.

Well Les, that sounds like good news. I think that will be a boost in getting players back i hope. I had to pull back too because the in-game handicap was just killing off any enjoyement really. I went back to make an aggregate of my rounds in TOG and adding them all up resulted in me having a real time hcp of 1! while the game gave me +12 . Ofcourse i knew (like everybody else i'm sure) i was nowhere near a +12 hcp, meaning playing rounds in de low sixties all the time, but i kept plugging away. But it wears you down like having a ball & chain around yer ankles! So i hope the new set up will help straighten things out. I still hope the set ups will be realistic and not 'fast & furious' all the time. And even though you guys can not mix up the tees per round (not your fault) i hope different tee's will be used. Anyway, we'll see how it goes...

EVENT 13 RESULT - THE GEITUR OPNAR
We have another first-time winner!!! Art Vandelay had his most consistent week so far, producing some top-notch golf to finish as the only player to break par. Art romped away with the Geitur Opnar (Icelandic for 'Goats Open') title by 9 strokes and his win also lifts him into the top 10 on the money list, so well done sir!!
In second spot was Backspin000, his second podium placing in four outings and he also moves into the top 10 earners for this season. Bobfletch claimed third place and was helped by the best handicap round of the tourney, a 69 in Round 2. He'll be a happy guy because he has now elevated himself back to top spot on the money list.
Due to relatively poor performances this week, both Les Souter and Kenneth-H dropped down, to 2nd and 4th respectively, while SimChars1968 hung on to 3rd spot.
It was a very disappointing turnout on what, in my own personal opinion, was a fantastic course. Perhaps there were circumstances of which I am not aware, but hopefully our revised handicap system, starting next week, will tempt more members to participate - we will see...
See you at Olafsen Skerries next week!!

Congratulations to this weeks winner of The World Scratch Tour A Vandelay with a score of 248 (-36)Art blew away the field this week with 4 great rounds on a tricky course, I remember Art saying this after round 1 " back at a course I cut my teeth on when I first started playing. Probably the best I've ever shot here, it is such a hard course." so obviously his prior knowledge was a great help, very well played Art. Runner up goes to Cajuncapgun with a score of 267 (-17 )this is his second runner up spot in a row well done Nathan. Third place goes to the podiums regular visitor SimChars1960 with a score of 270 (-14 ) I know like myself Simon wasn't happy with his performance this week and I can concur it was a grind to score well here, but thats Golf for you. Well done Simon. The round of the week goes without saying to Art with a fine 61 in round 3, well done sir. It was a disappointing turn out this week 11 started and 8 finishing the event, but under the current situation in the world today I'm not sure what to think, hopefully members who haven't played any TGC rounds or indeed been on steam for a while I truly hope they are safe and well from this virus. The society event will no longer be handicapped from now on as it seems flawed to say the least, we will be setting our own handicaps for the handicap tour from now on. The Scratch tour will remain the same except the leader board in society will be correctly showing scratch scoring. From Iceland we head east towards the 'Emerald Isle' of Ireland. Our course this week is another Brian Jeffords creation, Olafsen Skerries, see you all there and good luck goats. FINAL LEADER BOARD

NEW HANDICAP SYSTEM
Hi Goats, we all know the TGC Handicap system seems a bit flawed and difficult to understand, so we have decided to create a simple handicap system for our society.
To get to a handicap we have taken the 20 last scores from your score history and averaged your scores per round. We then have assumed a CSS (course standard scratch) of 70 (this might need adjusting in the future but seems fine at minute) and based handicaps around the difference. Handicaps are then rounded up or down to nearest number for example a 1.5 handicap will have you playing off 2, and a 1.4 handicap will have you playing off 1.
On the handicap list which we will put up later today you will see some with just a number and some with a - in front. The ones with just a number are + handicaps and the ones with a - are minus handicaps for example 3 handicap shoots 66 he then adds 3 so nett score is 69, however a -3 handicap shooting a 66 (bandit) takes away 3 so it becomes a 63 and of course this will reflect on his future handicap.
We feel the +handicaps should be capped at +5 maximum but reserve the right to review that in future if need be.
We also decided to adjust handicaps weekly so your handicap remains the same until the completion of the weeks tours. We will notify you of your handicap for the new week via the Handicap thread in forum. From now on we will only use your scores in the society events to adjust handicaps for this society.
The list is now posted here:
This is a list of current active players I will add to it as players either join or restart playing again.

Event 15 Preview - Vilamoura Open
This week we travel south to the Algarve region of Portugal and the Old Course at Vilamoura Golf Club. Our first visit to mainland Europe will see us tackle probably the shortest course we’ve played so far. You will need to ‘work’ the ball competently around the pines that flank the fairways to score well here. Get your course management right and there will be birdie and eagle chances in abundance, so make the most of this opportunity to shoot low!! Conditions have been set by Les (Daddygoat) so don't blame me if you don't enjoy them...

Event 14 RESULT - THE GOAT LEGEND
He's back!!! It's been a while since he won the very first Old Goats World Tour event, but now he's at last added to that victory! Samterrence wins the handicap event by three strokes from Charles who, in turn, deprived RWP (Ian) of his best finish by edging him into third spot by a single shot.
The best handicap round score of the week was 64 (-8) and that was achieved by Samterrence (twice) and RWP in his final round charge.
As for the money list, we have a new leader!! SimChars1968 had a good week, ending up in fourth place, and that was good enough to see him oust previous leader Bobfletch, who had a poor tourney, from the top spot. Other notable movers are Samterrence, up from 13th to 9th, and Charles who jumps from 8th up to 5th.
The new handicap system appears to have worked very well this week, so kudos to Les (Daddygoat) and Ian (RWP) for working it all out!!
The Old Goats' circus now moves south to sunny Portugal and the lovely Algarve region and, with the second Major of the season around the corner, players will be looking to find their best form.

Event 16 Preview - PG(oats)A CHAMPIONSHIP
Next week we revisit California for the second Major event of the season – and, being a Major, any money earned will be double the normal amount! TPC Harding Park in San Francisco is the venue, and will be the fourth municipally-owned golf course to host this event. Set against the cypress tree-lined Lake Merced, the improved course layout features soft bunkers and graceful, undulating fairways. An additional 400 yards were also added to the course to make it a championship-calibre golf facility ready for PG(oats)A TOUR action.
Will backspin000 win his second Major handicap title? And will Kenneth-H win his second Major scratch title? Because of the 'double earnings' will SimChars1968 be able to stay at the top of the Money List?
It’s going to be a fascinating week for sure, so good luck to all…

HANDICAP EVENT 15 RESULT - VILAMOURA OPEN
Well, that made a very pleasant change!! Lots of birdies and eagles, it looks like our goats had a great time in Portugal last week!! So, who enjoyed themselves the most? That privilege fell to bobfletch who survived a 17th hole scare in the final round to emerge as this week's Handicap winner!! Bob just about controlled his nerves to notch up his third win of the season, and sees him return to the top of the Money List. Two shots adrift in a tie for second were Backspin000 and RWP, the latter's best finish this year.
The best handicap rounds of 57 were recorded by Bobfletch, in Round 2 and which effectively earned him the victory, and RWP in Round 3 as part of his weekend surge towards the podium.
Special mention must be made to three players completing their first Old Goats event this week. Well done to Beppe_Iyello who tied for a creditable 10th place, our old friend from Perfect Golf, Aubrey, who managed to finish in 14th, and Oscar who will no doubt be a little disappointed with a final position of 16th, but who I am sure will show how well he can play in future tourneys!
Now we all travel back to California for the second Major of the schedule - the PG(oats)A Championship. Hopefully we will see another good turnout and good luck to all...

Event 17 Preview - The Kerry Classic
After differing fortunes at Harding Park we take the long trip back across the Atlantic to Ireland where the Old Course at Ballybunion awaits our golfing goats. Rated by golfdigest.com as the 9th best course in the world this year, it is one of two wonderfully challenging and unique world-class links courses located on the north-west coast of County Kerry, on a beautiful stretch of sand dunes overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The Old Course has existed since the late nineteenth century.
In 1981 Tom Watson visited the course for the first time, while Jack Nicklaus played here in 1989. It then hosted the Murphy’s Irish Open in 2000. In 1995 design changes were overseen by Watson and in 2004 the Palmer Cup, a match between European and American universities, took place here.
The weather is of paramount importance here – if the winds blow hard you will find it tough going but, if you’re lucky and you only face a salty breeze, you may be able to brag about a good score!

Event 16 Handicap RESULT - PG(oats)A CHAMPIONSHIP
The real PGA Championship has a history of producing surprise winners - and last week we followed that tradition because the winner was a player who has had only one podium finish, a third place, in seven outings. QWIZZLEMAN finally found his best form, apart from an unscheduled trip to a car park in Round 3 that so nearly derailed his whole tournament, to win his first handicap event - and what better time to do it than in the week of a Major tourney!! His finishing round of 60, equal best of the week, was enough to see him edge out Art Vandelay by a single stroke!! Three shots further back was Backspin000 who also produced a last round push with his own 60. Tied for 4th spot were Arsam and RWP (ian) who also both carded 60's, Arsam in Round 2 and Ian in Round 4. Major tournaments offer double earnings, but even that didn't change things much at the top of the Money List. In spite of finishing a very disappointing last, Bobfletch remains at the top, but Les Souter moves up from third to second courtesy of finishing in sixth place. Backspin000 lifts himself from eigth to fifth, while Art rises from eleventh to sixth. Our champion, Qwizzleman, elevated himself from sixteenth up to thirteenth. Special mention must be made of Art's exploits on the short par 4 16th in Round 3. Art's tee-shot caught a branch or two on its way into the cup for an incredible albatross (or double-eagle)!!! You can view it here: theoldgoats.proboards.com/thread/130/arts-par-alby-harding-park?page=1&scrollTo=642It was a baptism of fire for new member EZ2PUTT who struggled to finish in fifteenth spot, one off the bottom of the leaderboard, but I'm certain we'll soon see better things from the newcomer. The course played very well but seemed to suit some players more than others, and the weather and conditions provided some interesting challenges - thanks to Simon for having a go at setting them.

The Goats played their 2nd Major of the season at TPC Harding Park at what a week we had, some great and some not so great scoring but at the end of the week our winner by a mile was Art Vandelay with a fantastic score of 239 (-45) which included a fine Ace/Albatross on the par 4 16th in round 3, when its your week to win these things tend to happen, congratulations Art on a fine performance. Runner up was our first Major winner Kenneth-H with a score of 253 (-32) well played Kenny. 3rd place went to Les Souter one shot back with 253 (-31) well played. There was some good scoring last week which seen the round of the week going to Art Vandelay with a 58 in round 2 again well done. The money list at top didn't change with SimChars1968 still top but the gap closing after Simon had a blip in round 3. Other movers seen alteadm moving upto 9th, and Backspin000 moving upto 6th. Oscar seems a name to watch out for too. Good to see arsam back in the fold who produced a very respectable score. In all 16 players finished out of 18 starters and again admin would like to thank you all for your support. Next week The Goats travel across the Atlantic to Ireland where the Old Course at Ballybunion is the challenge for The Kerry Classic, have a safe trip Goats and hopefully we will see you there. Good Luck. FINAL LEADERBOARD The Goats are looking for new members if you wish to join a competitive and friendly society feel free to drop us request to join.
