On the heels of the TGCTours Challenge Circuit Design Championship, it is time, once again, to give the new guys a shot at a design title!

Last year's event came to a dramatic close as Ryan McConnell's The Dunes at Lake Marie edged out Scott Stearns' Muir Woods Golf Club in a finals matchup of two outstanding venues that could not have been more drastically different. Who will come from obscurity to take home the crown this year? Will it be you?
What are the entry restrictions?
This contest is open to any designer who meets the following criteria:
- Has not designed a course that has hosted any TGCTours event in any season (including ones using earlier editions of The Golf Club)
- Has not designed more than three courses that have been accepted into the TGCTours Course Database
- Has not participated in more than one Design Contest administered through the TGCTours forum website (including unofficial contests)
- Has not finished in the top 8 of any Design Contest administered through the TGCTours forum website (including unofficial contests)
- Has not participated in any previous Rookie Design Contest (the HB Rookie Design Contest from 2016 or last year's Challenge Circuit Rookie Design Battle)
Is there a maximum number of entrants?
Yes. There will be a maximum of 20 entrants. There will be a maximum of 10 entrants who have previously participated in a Design Contest. It is possible that all 20 spots are filled by designers who have not participated in a previous Design Contest.
Registration is on a first-come-first-serve basis. The first 10 spots will go to the first 10 entrants who have never participated in a Design Contest. The next 10 spots will go to the first 10 entrants who have participated in no more than one previous Design Contest (0 or 1) and have not placed better than 9th place. For knockout-bracket style events, reaching the quarterfinals counts as a top-8 finish.

Is there any restriction or rules regarding theme?
No. You can design in any theme that you would like.
When can I start?
You can start any time after posting in the registration thread.
Can I submit a Real Course Recreation (RCR)?
No. Show us how you would build a course!
Can I create a fictional course on a plot built using LiDAR?
No. LiDAR is only available to designers on PC and is not available to designers on consoles.
Can I share my progress with the TGCT community before the publishing window opens?
Yes! We encourage it! We want this to be a social event, and we want quality courses. That means the designers will have free reign to reach out to anyone for advice and help learning the tools.
Are designers allowed to publish test courses (Betas)?
Yes! Get some advice from the amazing community here at TGCTours. It's all about you growing as a designer. Are designers allowed to publish test courses (Betas)?
Are designers allowed to share course files?
No, sorry, this is a step too far. This option isn't available on consoles, and we want the course to be all your work.
When is the submission deadline?
Tuesday, October 15, 2019, 11:59 PM EDT. Courses must be published in The Golf Club 2019 Featuring PGA TOUR between September 15 and October 15, 2019.
What is the event format?
Judging will be done in four stages:
- Group Round - Courses divided into two groups. The top 4 courses from each group will advance to the quarterfinals.
- Quarterfinals - Courses seeded 1A to 4B, head-to-head knockout. 1A vs 4B; 2A vs 3B; 1B vs 4A; 2B vs 3A
- Semifinals - bracket-style knockout (no re-seeding)
- Finals - the last two courses standing duking it out for the title!
In each round, the scoring metrics will change slightly, as more components are added together. The idea is to put an emphasis on the most important elements of course design before factoring in the extra stuff that separates two quality courses.
What are the main points of focus?
Neatness counts! A high premium will be placed on making the course look neat, or if it is intentionally rugged or unkempt, executing that look will go a long way.
TGC2019 allows players to choose the course settings before their round. How will that affect the judging?
Judging will be based on the default settings. Designers know their courses the best.
What do I get if I win?
TBD. Bragging rights, for sure.
I am not a contestant. Can I participate somehow?
Yes! We need willing judges! If you are interested in helping to pick a winner, let either mattf27 or me know! We need the insights of players and designers alike to help pick the best course.
