Not made life easy, but qualifying for Semi's has been achieved. Agree Vince = Awful selection but thankfully Roy is back and what a huge difference he is, Bairstow been outstanding last 2 matches, Root steady, Stokes playing well, Butler will have a big innings no doubt (Hopefully Final)
Bowlers been outstanding, Woakes, Archer, Wood, not a fan of plunkett but can't knock his attitude. As for Cricket 19 game- ITS GREAT This comment aged well
Astonishing game of cricket today. No wonder Lewis Hamilton was moaning about the cricket and the tennis clashing with the British GP, the yawn-fest that is F1 hasn't got a hope of being anywhere near as exciting.
Two 100% committed teams going toe to toe. Both must have won it and lost it ten times! You have to say the Kiwis were very unfortunate, especially with the 4 overthrows of Stokes' bat, how unlucky was that?!! But sometimes that's just the way it goes. Have a feeling the 'most boundaries' rule will be changed before the next tournament! In the last 4 games we beat India, thrashed the Aussies, and beat NZ twice, we are deserving champions. What a day!

The F1 was actually pretty good today
Those overthrows were extremely fortunate. Honestly think NZ deserved it today, but England have been the best team in recent times so a well deserved success.
Amazing that both the the Cricket & Wimbledon finals both went literally as far as they possibly could

Barmey Army, Barmey Army Barmey Army Barmey Army Well what can I say about that game of Cricket, wow, never been so enthralled in a sporting drama like that for a long time. But how cruel is Sport? Kiwi's did not deserve to lose at all, but how many times has the better side been on the wrong side of victory, Hollywood could have never wrote a 6+ hour film that good. Knew Buttler would come good, what a partnership with Sir Ben Stokes, National Hero in my eyes. Unbelievable Ashes next, cmon England

I was in the amazingly fortunate position of being able to avoid results and watched all 3 events yesterday "as live". All amazing in their own right - yes even the F1 which inexplicably has just delivered 2 superb races in a row - but the cricket literally took the breath away. Having a lot of fun today reliving the last hour with TMS team... www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p07gxnddAlso, looks like the overthrows actually should have been 5 runs, not 6 The batsmen hadn't crossed for that 2nd run by the time the ball was thrown...

it still might not have made any difference Stokes would have hit the full toss off Boult last ball for 4 instead of looking for 2

As someone who just watched their first ever cricket match about 2 months ago, has now maybe seen pieces of a dozen or so matches, and just watched more than an hour or two of a single game for the first time yesterday is it fairly safe to assume that I have already seen the best game of cricket that I will ever see?

It's like any sport, you get periods where nothing seems to happen and then just maybe, if you're lucky, it'll all come down to an exciting finale. Yesterday was pretty exceptional by any standards but there have been many times previous where a cricket match has had me on the edge of my seat. The 2005 Ashes series was pretty much 25 days of unbearable drama! I also avidly follow football, golf (obvs) and NFL, they all have the potential to be very boring or the complete opposite on any given day.

I'm at a clear disadvantage as my chances of having any emotional interest in a game will be limited by the fact I'm from Canada. Cricket isn't really a thing here and I assume we have little to no presence at an international level.

is it fairly safe to assume that I have already seen the best game of cricket that I will ever see? I'm gonna call it... yes. Not just the slender margins. England winning their home World Cup, at the home of cricket, Lords. The rollercoaster... at 53 needed from 36 balls, England looking effectively out of it.... then up steps the anti-hero Ben Stokes, famous both off and on the pitch. The career defining innings to come back to draw the match... including a massive dose of luck when he deflected those overthrows... an occurrence so rare the rule on it has never really been considered by anyone to be important. Then that insane super-over. That also ends in a draw. Yeah - you can happily watch no more and say you saw the best game ever. But as Jamie also points out - there are gonna be some great moments ahead too. Not long to wait for the next biggie... for us and the Aussie's at least...Ashes starts in just over 2 weeks \o/

I’m an umpire (same qualifications as test umpires), and I don’t think the talk about the overthrows only being 5 is right. The rule says it’s whether the batsmen had crossed at the time of the throw ‘or event’. I interpret ‘the event’ being when the throw hit Stokes bat, not when Guptill threw it.
An easy solution would be for the ball to become dead when it hits a batsman. Batsmen don’t take the extra runs on offer if it hits them as it stands, it’s considered poor form - the only time runs occur is when it makes it to the boundary and the players have no choice.
I’d also have liked to have seen an extra super over decide the outcome, the poor Kiwis are always going to feel a bit robbed I think - and it takes a tiny bit of the gloss off your win...
Roll on the Ashes 🙏🏼🇦🇺🙏🏼
