Cricket is my passion. I was good enough to get to first grade as a fast bowling all rounder. I was lucky enough to have played with and against a lot of state and test cricketers, but was never good enough to play at a higher level. I ended up captaining second grade for most of my ‘career’. The measley income I made from it barely covered my bar tab lol. I got sick at about 32 which ended my playing, which is really hard on me, even now at 45. I wanted to be that wiley old medium pacer still nurdeling it around at 60. I’ve umpired the last few seasons and really enjoyed it, but couldn’t finish out last season due to deteriorating health. The recent surgery I had has me a little more mobile, but I’m still a bit of a walking skeleton. Working on gaining weight and getting back to it, I enjoy it a lot and the $ comes in handy on a pension. Will be following this thread and contributing plenty - I can talk about cricket all day. Sorry to hear about your health struggles ray you're a top bloke, I didn't like reading that Amazing that you got so high in the game! Plenty to feel good about there! But totally understand the feeling of wanting to be able to trot about still playing. Hope you get some weight and strength back, my friend. I'm one of those people who could pick up any sport and look decent, but if that sounds arrogant, it disguises a complete frustration at not being "very" good at any of them! I'd love to be awesome at a sport. Closest I've come is probably football. Played for a reserve team where we helped 16-18 year olds get used to proper 11 a side. Some of them ended up as semi pro, or even very lower pro.

Thanks mate, I’ll keep plugging away. I wasn’t really very good, I’m paying the price now for committing to lock out my front leg and bowl fast. I do have some cracking good memories tucked away that keep me sane on the days I’m struggling 👌🏻 Eg - career highlight came when injured so played lower grades as a specialist batsman and made the first 200 in 50 over cricket in Australia - the following week a guy on the opposition (Pro footballer) went sick and scored 300. We lost a 50 over match with 475 on the board lol. #GoDandenong
Thoughts on Alex Hales? Shouldn’t be anywhere near the World Cup with a second positive drug test. Doesn’t matter if it’s recreational or performance enhancing - when you’re a professional athlete you have a standard to meet.

I'm pretty ambivalent on the recreational drug thing, to be honest. I hear what you're saying about "standards," but for me all this fighting in night clubs BS is way wrose; that's just me though. Attitudes towards recreational drug use in sport seem to be softening, i'm ok with it.
wow, first double century in 50 over cricket?! That's amazing mate! what year was that?

2004/5. Was at about 5th grade level, but I’ll take it 👍 Agreed if the policy is loosened, at totally agree with the Stokes thing. Stupid kiwi lol. Until the policy is loosened, he need to go for a period, regardless of the tournament coming.

For some reason despite only having a super basic TV package which gives me the major Canadian and US networks it has also given me the 24/7 cricket channel. Now I've never watched cricket before in my life since it's not really a thing in Canada but one guy at work loves it, so I've been watching parts of some of the games just so he has someone to actually discuss them with.
I think I've figured out most of the basics and it does seem slightly less boring than baseball but I don't think I'm going to become a new fan.
