DOYLEY: Split this off from OSM Request thread
And real quick... I want to say this for anyone who hasn’t used OSM before. Please do NOT do courses like whoever did Augusta National. All the greens are marked as “sports pitch” and fairways are both inaccurate and wrongly labeled... sorry for the mini rant haha

I got lucky when I found purgatory had not been touched... I meticulously traced that friggen course too lol
Most of them the tracing is absolutely horrendous.... If you decide to trace one take your time and do it right folks
And if you have to delete what is there and start the trace over, at least do it well and right ha ha ha ha ha
Label them right, and they will translate into the architect much better and cleaner
So I tried a little something on Purgatory also.. it has few trees, so I drew circles around them and also a line of trees on perimiter of the course I labeled those as WOOD..... Then I chose the option in Chads program to include trees and BOOM they were were in the proper places... Did notice they are ALL the same tree but hey it put them in the right place so you could delete what is there and place what you need there
Unfortunately I discovered this after I imported Purgatory and completed hole one in the architect so I went back to the original course file
If ONLY there was a way Chad could tweak this bad boy to not use to much of the plant meter, if there was a way to do all of this work import it and still have a full meter it would be magical...It is amazing as is though thats no lie

Please... do it correctly. Deleting takes too much time, then you also have to redo everything. And while we’re probably preaching to the choir since all of us are hardcore golf fans... it mentally helps to rant

Speaking of botched OSM tracings, remember that the different satellite images aren't always perfectly overlaid. You may have to use the offset tool (scroll down in the menu where you select your satellite imagery). For LACC I traced one green using the bing map, then switched to the high quality imagery and tweaked the offsets until the green I traced on the bing map lined up with the hi res green image (then proceeded to trace the rest of the course using the hi res imagery). Also, remember that OSM doesn't remember the offset values if you don't do the whole course in one sitting!

i wish OSM had the same maps as google maps at times. A fow that I've checked out have had MUCH better images in Goole maps... too bad really.
STill looking for the right one to do (other than what you sent me pithy). I find one I want to do and one piece seems to always be missing. GAAAAHHHH!!!!
Hey, if anyone wants to look at Ballyneal (just south of Hoyloke CO if you can't find it) and see if my tracing and labeling is ok so far... I may not finish now that I can't find lidar data...but want to make sure I'm doing it in a way that will work. Thanks.

I've found that other courses I pull up are the same way and when I traced my own, a lot of my surfaces were ~10 yards too far north. So I'm not sure what's causing that. Here's what your tracing looks like on my end:

I used a different map. Try switching to one of the premium ones

Yeah the different maps aren’t correctly synced up in some places- but anyways, that tracing looks good to me reeb! If anything I’d smoothen the fairways a tiny bit, but to be honest it’s completely fine where it’s at now (I’m just a little OCD...)

Ding the fairways is weird. When I try to drag the screen it ends my outline so I’ve been tracing with the full thing in view then hitting tight corners while zoomed

Ah, yeah looks spot on with Eris World Imagery Beta and Mapbox Satellite.

Ah okay. Where they’re at now likely won’t change how it looks in the tool, it just looks different on the map.

Here's another odd thing with OSM: if the image looks blurry or outdated, trying zooming in farther.
Check Shoreacres for example. From a zoomed out level, Esri World Imagery Beta looks fuzzy and is from prior to the course renovation. If you zoom in to about the green level, though, the image updates and becomes clearer and also post-renovation. I find that the DigitalGlobe imagery also tends to act in this way.

Adding on to what Craig said, some maps are higher quality than others. I personally find Mapbox Sattelite the easiest to read, however it also appears to be slightly off of the default bing, so be careful. Just realized though... maybe this should be in a different thread? This is more of an OSM request thread... should all of this be moved to an “OSM tips” thread or something like that? Doyley
