I did that with Tara iti and it swapped to an image from before the course was built. Ha!

So if the different maps are slightly aligned differently, which one should we be using as source? Or is this where we match up whichever source map we chose and use the offset in Chad's program?

The problem I see is that there's not necessarily a way to check which map lines up best with the LIDAR, so I’d probably go with the latter, only using the offset if they don’t match up in-game.

I did L.A. country club and used the offset option in OSM to slide stuff over on the hi res image. The greens and bunkers draped over the LIDAR import beautifully. I think it goes off the Bing map, so if the shapes aren't aligned on the Bing image then you'll have problems when you import from OSM (at least that's my understanding; I'm a noob just like everyone else). chadgolf demonstrates how to do this in the video tutorial.

OK, I'm doing my local course to get used to it - and am aligning everything to bing - but some of the other views are easier to see certain areas - I'll just make sure they align to bing map.
Another question - does TGC Tools import single trees or just those marked as an area? I noticed you can use the Point option and select Tree. I think that would be pretty handy for those sparsely planted trees on the course.

Should note when lining up two separate backgrounds - the Adjust Imagery Offset is handy at the bottom - and if you have selected two different map backgrounds they should be highlighted blue - you can then hot-swap between them by using Ctrl-B.

Might try to use PeekThru when I get home (can't install it at work) so I can reference google maps which has a much higher resolution and more up to date pics available of my home course. It would be so much easier if their image was available as it's easily 10x clearer than anything in OSM.

Natural -> Wood will become a gravel spline placeholder Lidar Trees will try to populate every tree automatically.

Unfortunately, Google has been charging more and heavily monetizing Google Maps in the past few years. There's not even a free usage tier anymore which is why I'm using "MapQuest" for the tools' sat view. All of the imagery in OpenStreetMap is donated and provided by those companies for free. OSM is an entirely donation driven service.

TIP
If you find a background that has a better outline of what you are drawing (fairway for instance) but it's not aligned well with the bing image, trace the shape from the best source then switch back to bing aerial imagery - make sure shape is selected and press M. You can then move that shape and it'll generally line up perfectly to bing.
Handy when the offset feature isn't working well.

doesn't appear you can multi select

Try holding down shift when clicking on lines/areas; I don’t know for sure if you can move them, but that definitely allows you to select multiple pieces at once.

so...was moving things...and it appears there is more than just a resolution difference. The objects are at a slightly different angle. All that work and I don't think there is any way to make it match up. Sigh...
