Holy crap, can we have some sort of offshoot design contest for this field alone??!! The Alternate Contest. Winner hosts the Barbasol Championship in July opposite the Open Championship, lol. That would actually be really cool....

I'm excited to get started on my course. I have a much better idea of what I want to do with this one than I did my WC course. That one I just kind of started drawing with splines and say how things came out.
I have a specific look and play strategy I want to go for. It's just a matter of seeing if I can execute it with the designer's tools.

Think this is the first time I've signed up for a contest without at least a general idea of what I wanted to do....so many possibilities...

I've narrowed it down to one of four themes......that's a good start right?
And thanks mayday_golf83 - could have sworn I'd read that sentence several times and didn't see anything in it about betas previously

Does Kessler get to use a WIP? I don’t see why not, he only has about 78 of them. Problem is any houses that have been planted will have to be removed before he continues work 😂. (That’s obviously in jest, there are no previous WIPs allowed. Everyone must start from scratch)

I'm looking forward to how this one pans out. I was never going to enter due to time issues but even if I did I had no hope of getting in given it was the middle of the night in Australia.
With so many talented designers wanting to enter these now, we are soon going to have to think of new ways of running and judging them. The current formats only handle 20-30 entrants. I think it would be quite easy to get 40-50+ entrants if the registration windows were wider (and even more if the build time was a bit longer). Probably should have put this into a different brainstorm thread!

Probably should have put this into a different brainstorm thread! Definitely understand your concern and your thoughts on this, but to hit just four contests throughout the year, there's just no way the windows can be longer. Ideas will be welcomed as we look at the 2020 season, but believe me, we spent a great deal of time thinking through the options for this year and coordinating everything into a very organized structure with judging transparency for the community. I'm totally open to the idea of brainstorming, but hopefully we can keep it constructive and understanding of all the work that goes into these. I think we're at a really good place with contests this year (and an even better place with so many designers contributing to the database), and you have my commitment that I will continue to work on ways to administer all of them with whatever improvements could be made, up to and including more designers per contest if possible. But hopefully we aren't already at a point where one contest into the schedule we're saying we should've done this, or could've done that, etc. Another point of clarification that maybe I did a poor job of indicating or it got lost in translation is this: These four contests are just the TGC Tours officially endorsed contests now, featuring prizes and trophy cards for the winners, but we do not hold the monopoly on community run design contests. If throughout the year somebody wants to run a contest concurrently, they are more than welcome to do that. I'd be happy to bequeath the fantasy contest or the Survivor contest to somebody if that interested them, or people can run a 9-hole contest, or an 'unofficial' beginner's contest so that novices can get exposure, things like that (and they could have whatever design window that the organizer wanted since they'd be managing it themselves). I would even be willing to help you pull loose ends together from the inside with the community, or put some things on Twitter, etc. So if there are designers out there that aren't in these contests but feel that they'd still like to be in a contest-type environment, feel free to create one and let me know about it so I can help you. Hopefully that's a fair compromise!
