I kind of pinch the right swing stick with my thumb and index finger.

Top tip - look at where you want to land the ball in relation to the hole, then look at your controller and shoot. Follow through to end of forward swing to ensure 100%. Then prepare to curse at the lines on the green !!!

Even though I rather wouldn't, I have begun looking at the controller on the backswing. I then look at the screen for my through swing (after my pause). It's making a big improvement. Have done this for 3 rounds now. Huge improvement. I've seen what looks like 2 or 3 perfectly straight shots, and the crooked ones are much less off centre. I'll probably be banned now haha. I'm weird. I use a combination of what you describe! I used to play like Hammo (not score-wise!), left thumb, right-handed. Then swing gate meant I couldn't hit 100% cos I'm a wuss. Then I copied my father in law. I hold the controller at 90 degrees, clockwise and swing left-right looking at the controller, holding it up in front of the screen so I can see the pause at the top of swing. I play a slight draw and gain no extra yardage from it!! I can't seem to stop at the top of backswing for pause as It feels so unnatural. Results in a few sub 100% shots. Putting is normal left thumb stuff.

I'm having a real struggle at the moment. I'm hitting massive hooks out of nowhere every 10 or so drives but it doesn't feel like I'm doing anything different in my swing at all.
Occasionally I will hit a shot that I know I've got horribly wrong and that's fine, but with the drives I've watched the stick as I've swung and I've not done anything untoward but I still get a massive hook into deep rough which invariably costs me a double bogey unless I do something special to scramble my way out of it.
It just feels like it could happen any time and feels almost random. It's really bugging me now. I fully expect to be punished for bad swings but it feels like the difference between good and bad is minute.

How about the casual auto-straight thumb-flick?
It does produce a couple of pixles deviation sometimes outside of putting so it's not quite as bad as it looks... I dont use it as I think it is cheese, and HB should patch it IMO....

I have never seen this before, but why would you post this?!?! Why not? Actually, I do not know. Both of my DualShock4 controllers won't do this. Just giving people ideas, I guess.

I might have been resolved by HB already - could not replicate now. Or my controller just lost some springiness...

I've gone from contending (and winning) tournaments not so long ago to shanking pretty much every single drive, and yet I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing differently now to back then. Like you, the round just becomes a scramble from start to finish, and it's ruining my enjoyment of a game that I love, unfortunately. I suppose an analyst might say that it's more a mental thing, like a gamer's case of the yips, but what would be really nice is to get a proper diagnosis just so that I can work on trying to rectify it! Until then, I'll keep trying everything from turning the controller upside-down to using my toes instead.

Until then, I'll keep trying everything from turning the controller upside-down to using my toes instead. Every drive? That really is harsh, especially if you were playing well before. I've been working on this and trying to work out what I'm doing wrong by going into the Course Designer and using Rewind Shot in the Play function. It meant I could just repeatedly swing and see if I could sort things out without playing a real round. I've found that I do hit almost all of my shots by pushing the stick slightly to the left - a pull in real golf parlance. It happens on my putts too. It's not much but I think my shanks must come when I do it just a little bit more than I normally do. It seems a harsh punishment for a swing that's slightly out though. I've had some success by swinging more smoothly. I bring the club back a bit slower and make a smoother transition into the downswing and so far it seems to be helping. I still have a tendency to hit a bit left but the shanks/hooks haven't been happening, or they are a rarity at least. It's very hard to work things out when you're unsure what causes the shot - I still don't know despite things improving for me. Good luck - I hope you sort this out too because I know your pain. It's horrible and it does ruin the experience.

Yeah, about 90% of my shots that end up outside the 'Cone Zone' also go to the left. It got to the stage where I knew I would be hooking the ball so I had to consciously allow for it when I tried to aim - that was when I was hitting only slightly off centre before my current debacle started.
I've tried doing what you did re. swinging more slowly, but I just find that I never hit 100% shots that way, not even close to be honest. However, last night, I tried the method that someone mentioned on this thread whereby they turn the controller 90 degrees and so the left thumbstick is moved left to right instead of down to up. For some reason, this definitely helped to an extent - probably hit about 75% good drives during the round. Ideally, though, I'd like to keep the controller the right way up if possible!
I'm glad your swing has improved, however. Thanks for the info, I just need to rediscover the timing, gamepad finesse (or whatever it is that I had before) from somewhere! The worrying thing is that when/if it happens, I'll probably have no idea why!

Look at left thumb/stick on backswing, look up at golfer for follow through.

The cause of hooks can be attributed to several things but if you are coming from having been shooting and scoring well to now having random hooks the reason is very likely to be as simple as dragging the top of your thumb on top of the analog stick at the top of the swing when forward swinging. Take can not to drag your thumb surface across the top of the stick, even the slightest bit. This becomes even more accentuated should you swing a little faster than optimum ! Hope this might help,,,, jsut another little food for thought !! This message has been shared by another frustrated TGC Tours competitor who is rapidly developing game scripting paranoia like a few others. Strange things appear to be happening from time to time ? Anyway hope this helps and that we can all continue to enjoy the game , Pugs..
