Okay PS4 guys, I want to know your secrets.
When I started this game I used to play with right stick swing, just using my right thumb. It was a disaster and in part explained a terrible Q-school - I couldn't find any consistency and every other shot was a rank slice, not good.
I changed to left stick, one thumb swing and that was even worse, didn't see out an hour like that before changing back.
I was then watching a YT 'how to' vid and the guy suggested using 2 thumbs, one on each side of the stick to keep it centred. This was a revelation and the vast majority of my shots were much, much straighter. I improved on this further by not looking at the screen during the swing - I found that if I concentrated on the stick that a) my shots were generally straighter and b) I could see a bad backswing and abort, so this was good. It's till not perfect though and I still have a tendency to throw in the occasional snap hook or huge slice which is hurting my overall scoring.
So this is where you guys come in. What techniques work for you on PS4 and is there anything else I'm missing beyond 'git gud'?

I started using left stick swing, like used in TW-series. I switched from XBOX360 to PS4 and blamed the controller for hooking and slicing all over the place Then I tried using right swing stick and my swing improved. I use one thumb and watch the screen. Putting no different. Oh, and I lean left or right on my couch when I mishit my drive. To no effect, unfortunately

I use right until I start shanking badly then go left until shankville, back to right and repeat.. This system works..well it doesn't work well at all but it's all I got. My thumbs seem to slip on the controller now and again which is why I switch back and forth..
Have to admit I do the couch lean as well..

If you really wanna hit it straight, look & concentrate on the controller, not the screen.
I'm just about to learn this too. It feels a bit strange in the beginning when you stop looking at your character. But you get used to that, and your shots should become straighter.

Not any different than looking at your club irl rather than looking ahead. Have to try it..Thanks.

I'm the same ,been looking at the controller now for over 2 months and it made a huge difference. The edge of the touch pad is in line with the stick so you can see if you're swinging straight or not. Probably why my putts are never too straight as I have to look at the screen to putt and not out of the corner of my eye for tee shots. I also have to cock my wrist slightly so my thumb moves straight up and down and not in a 7 to 1 o'clock direction. I use my right thumb to swing.

I played TW13 a fair bit with my dad, and he started looking at the controller when he swung. I picked that up from him when I saw how well it worked out for him. On this game, I tried similar but didn't have much success in the beginning. I don't think it was until after Q-School that I realized you could switch from the default right stick to the left stick -- that made a world of difference for me, because 1) it felt more familiar, and 2) I'm left-handed, so it only makes sense.
Also, I sit with my left leg across my right, and rest my left wrist on my left knee... makes things a little more stable. I still hit the occasional ugly hook/slice and rarely am totally straight, but I'm much better than I was!
(now if only PSN would work for me...)

So I tried this once a couple days ago, 1st shot completely shank. So I gave up .. ;-) Later on I'll pick an easy course and try for awhile see if I can get the hang of it.

I look at the ball. Only the ball. Just like real golf. It works...sometimes.

What techniques work for you on PS4 and is there anything else I'm missing beyond 'git gud'? Perhaps you could blindfold yourself and hold the stick behind your back ! I find this completely focusses my concentration, however, it is imperative that the stick angle relative to the controller never exceeds a +/- tolerance of 3 to 5 degrees from the horizontal keeping it level with hip height After this every other secret will cost you !!

Let us know how it worked out. ;-) Tried it again today. Bad, keep hitting it into the woods. I guess I need to watch the club when I play. So I have a permanent left shank..I can adjust to that, just aim more right

Just coming back to you again, but, I promise, I am being serious this time. You may have heard these few tips before but here they are anyway 1) rhythm, rhythm, rhythm 2) probably better to use one thumb as this would be likely to achieve natural rhythm more easily through the shot stick arc - but not every one is the same - my advice would be one thumb - think of it as muscle memory in your thumb 3) be sure the controller and stick are at 90 degrees before drawing back, seems obvious but I think you are probably over aware of this but STILL, check to see they are because even the slightest off set angle will obviously contribute to shot left or right end result inaccuracy - I find that sitting in the same position always when playing a shot with by left leg ankle resting over my right knee as a support for my hands resting on my lower left leg helps to keep everything (controller and stick) as still as possible - no jerking motion - whatever works for to keep the controller as still as possible 4) You are no doubt aware that putting draw and fade on shots narrows your shot cone as does lofting etc - I practice using draw using the shot cone set up because there will be definite times that you will need it - however - where it is not necessary I simply aim into the wind to achieve a curved shot using the wind NB - either way - ALWAYS - rhythm (slow) swing as if you are swinging too fast this will definitely tend to slice or hook depending which way your thumb rockets on the follow through swing 5) rhythm, rhythm, rhythm 6) Second last tip - play with players better than you !!! Play with good guys who allow b%&ing and cussing in the party chat over poor shots (in fun) and last and most important tip 7) ENJOY !!!!

All i make sure of is that i am holding my pad upright with no lean or slouch. That helps you hit straight consistently.
