I play on the ps4 and for the life of me, can't get the slow swing rhythm down. It results in a straighter shot, but I rarely get 100 % power. Most shots are in the 94-95% range. Now I just go back to the old "slam" or "flick" the thumbstick up, and usually get 100%. Would love to go with a smoother slower swing (like I use with putts- never losing power), but I can't seem to produce it. My putting stroke is very slow back and through, and distance control (power) is rarely an issue. I guess they are two different swings. Are your backswing and swing the same slow tempo ?

That's what I find as well, you really can't go too slow forward, but I'm trying to get away from that whipping it feel. Still a work in progress with mixed results. I can't get myself to look at the controller, I concentrate on the ball itself, ignoring the avatar for the most part. Thank you for the help.

I'm a noob, got the game during the flash sale and I'm soaking it all in.. I use the right stick, every other game i have seems to use the left stick mostly so its alot more loose than the right stick. I'm on a ps4 n my controller is beaten up to begin with but I've had no trouble at all hitting straight on the fairways, i can only think of one time when I shanked it so I find it odd that allot of you are having trouble keeping it straight. I even moved the setting to hard to get that extra distance but it seems not to be worth it even though I'm still good on the drives.
I also been at 100% unless I mess up or am trying to feel shot it, close to the green. Good luck guys love the game and the knowledge.

I never look down at the controller. Right handed and swing with right analog. I have been tinkering off and on the last 6 weeks with the grip. Holding at slightly different spots or holding the controller at a slightly different angle than my "standard" grip.
90% of my shots are a gentle fade. 5% of the time I'll perfect straight it and the other 5% I hit a draw of some sort. Despite having a consistently non-straight swing, it is predictable enough that I can counter it with confidence by small aim adjustments.
I don't move my thumb much at all, to be honest. I actually rock the controller itself just as much as I move my thumb, especially on the downswing (pushing up on the analog). It is very little thumb movement, and mostly all tilting the controller back towards me. It's when I get lazy with this approach and do not rock the controller enough, or too early that I get in trouble and get 9x% shots.
For putting I don't use this approach much. It is more pulling back and pushing through with my thumb. Watching the putter head and using an internal clock and visual clues.
Edit: I have been wondering if there are grips you can get for the parts of the controller (the handles I guess) where you hold it. At the base of my right thumb sometimes feels a bit sweaty and sticks to the controller and the swing feels a bit jerky. I just wipe off my palm on my leg, but often have to repeat if I have been playing more than one round in a row.

Make sure you draw your back swing fully back and hold for a sec,,, then release forward fully but not in a quick whip or you are more prone to snap hooks or fades. NB smooth back - but fully back and then even forward a little faster but not as an uncontrolled snap. Practice your tempo. Keep an eye to the analogue stick during back swing to ensure it's coming back straight to 6 o'clock ! Go forth and prosper. If still in doubt check out the "Consistency Trilogy Thread" within the suggestion box .

"grip", sweating (I even have a towel layed down next to me ), putting, ... Only difference is that I am looking at my controller all the time until the ball is in the air. I'm just much more accurate when I do that instead of watching the screen (or whatever).

RH stick for me and I don't look at the screen either, just the controller. I also find if the swing overall is longer, timewise, the shot is straighter. The only problem with this method is if the wind changes, I have had winds of 8 go to 6 or 5 to 3, this makes a difference. For putting and percentage flop shots I look at the screen.

I found out what I call "the follow trough" (like in basketball ) to be very important to straigthen up shots; especially Drives (even more 101% Drives). Basically after pushing the stick up I maintain pressure straigth up until the ball is in the air. Technique-wise I use the RS and a very specific grip to avoid too much thumb movement: a very steady grip with my right palm on the right side of the DS4; right thumb firm but gently placed on the analog. Then instead of moving down-up my thumb I "rotate" the whole joypad with the left hand. It sounds weird but to me, coming from many different games where super precision with the analog was required, it feels very natural. On the putting side of course I don't use the same motion. I don't slam the stick. On the greens (and when I'm partially-flopping too) I tend to filck very gently (and also like a normal human being)

I use left stick, one thumb. I've always looked at the controller when playing a shot. I had an addiction to the Trials videogame series for a good couple of years, which requires a lot of tiny precise stick movements when you get very good at it so I kinda had good muscle memory to begin with. It's rare I go outside the cone (happens more on rushed 70% lobs though!), but also rare that I hit it dead straight.
Edit: meant to say I only look at the controller on drives and approaches. Chips/flops/putting I look at the screen.

I sit my dog down right in front of me, he holds my controller. I use the left analog stick, but swing with my right big toe. When I swing, I look straight into my dogs eyes. My golf game is getting strong, but me and my dogs bond is stronger. Wait.....I am on XB1 so this probably won't work for you guys.
