The scores are getting ridiculous. A month into the game and 990th ranked player just shot four rounds in the 50's at Chambers Bay. Last week, somebody ranked in the 1000's shot a 52. Pretty soon it will take 4 rounds below 55 to finish in the top 10 in PGA & Euro events. How is that fun?
It's getting silly and you guys are too good to be playing with training wheels so here's my suggestion for season 3:
WEB/PGA/EURO:
Wind Speed: off Distances: range
PGA/EURO:
Scout Cam: off
This has knocked 4-5 strokes of my scoring average. I also play with shot feedback and putter marker off, but I don't feel these have any effect on my scores, more of a personal preference.
This has nothing to do with shaking up the names on the leaderboards. The best will remain the best, but I believe it will help keep the scores from getting so low that it discourages people from joining. 60, 58, 64, 62 looks a whole lot better than 55, 54, 52, 56.
I would really love to hear people's arguments against this.

Yeah, range is wonky. It is much wider than it should be (we aren't talking miles away from the hole here), but if you have the announcer guy on, he will occassionally tell you a more exact distance.
I never fully understand this argument (higher scores) as I am competing against others on my tour, not vs. par.
I also don't understand the "scores should be lower" but then I see 25-40 people playing True Sim events per week.

Yeah ranges are just not that authentic - pro's know their distances almost bang on... so it feels like an artificial impediment.
I agree with the crazy scores tho - just not sure much can be done about it sadly. Tho I do think API straight shooting checks may be not be running atm, so that may clean up a few of the lower scorers too...
The TST already caters for the no-aids approach - I think the setup for the main tour is about right.

Ranges are !&**ing retarded. Sorry for the strong language but it's true. I like it personally. Until HB does something about the loft grid, like allowing it to be turned off in the tournament options, it's more realistic than the current "dial-a-distance" in my opinion. The argument that tour pros know exact yardage doesn't hold water since it's so easy to execute perfect contact in this game.

Well it does hold water, because it's correct But what you're actually arguing for is the contact should be more variable. I agree. But that would be about as popular as the proverbial turd in a punchbowl given how much people hate the "random" swings atm...

I just wonder how many people visit this site, see the scores and leave because they are a joke. True Sim has low participation because IMO playing without the green grids is more unrealistic than anything else. People can tell me all they want about how they read the greens and I have no doubt they believe they can. The reality is you're making educated guesses based on a number of factors. But that's another story for another day. Yes, I realize I just invited a wave of backlash from the TST crowd, but I'm not criticizing the format, just trying to explain why thousands of people aren't flocking into the events. The grid should only be visible when you're "scouting" the putt. That would be a good middle ground. But, until somebody from NASA stops fooling around with space stuff and takes 5 minutes to figure out a better way to show green contours in a video game we are stuck with what we got.

Just enter the correct data and push a few buttons. My argument is to make the data a little more vague so the results aren't so precise.

I play on TST and I have to agree with you that reading the greens more times than enough is an educated guess on Xbox anyway. You can look at your putt from behind the putter and it might look as if it's a right to left putt and then change your viewpoint to behind the hole and it looks like it goes the other way.

Well, the leaderboard has changed significantly since the original post so maybe there is more funny business going on than I thought. But, you janky swing is still putting up some really good scores on a really tough course. If people are happy with the way things are, I can live with that. Two things worry me: 1. People will be put off by the constant 50's rounds and either not sign up or stop participating. 2. Designers will be start to lengthen and trick up their courses I really can't comment from a player's perspective since I don't compete on the tours. But from a designers perspective, if there was an option to exclude my courses from use on the PGA/Euro I would use it every time. As a fictional designer, I'm not allowed to get away with things that make RCR's challenging and I'm not a good enough designer to challenge you guys without being accused of tricking things up. I totally admit I could be way off and everything is peachy. It's good to discuss these things once and awhile to get the pulse of the community I design for. Given the state of affairs on the HB forums I really need this community to survive!

Ranges are g retarded. Sorry for the strong language but it's true. X2 Edit/P.s.: To a larger point, unfortunately, I feel HB/whoever has really failed rise to the occasion & captivate their audience/market with TGC2 - so basically, I think it's a systemic issue more than a gameplay settings debate. Don't get me wrong, I'll still play, but my interest is already waning and the game has only been out for what, 2/3 months? There's a bunch of reasons for this that don't really matter (and more importantly do not need to be discussed in this thread), but I feel that designers and players alike are at least not as interested a couple of months into TGC2 as we would have all predicted 12 months ago.

We will see where it goes...it is tougher than TGC1, as I could hit all my shots with my eyes closed and never miss the pin left or right more than 3-4 feet. Can't be as dialed in here as a slight deviation is enough to push it offline

I think your totally right on the money Justin. Two months into TGC2 and a couple patches later and the game just isn't what a lot of players expected it to be. Don't get me wrong, it's still good entertainment once in awhile, but the addiction seems to be slipping away. I've almost lost complete interest in the designer due to how slow it works compared to TGC1. I really think HB Studios catered more to the arcade crowd (younger generation), and less to the simulated crowd like ourselves.

No Wind Speed and No Scout Cam could help. No shot suggestion for PGA/Euro?
Distance ranges are stupid.
One thing I have noticed with regards to low scores: There are some courses that seem as though they should be hard, but at 7200 yards, that's nothing for Tour clubs. The ball goes forever, especially on firm fairways. 300 yard drives mean that the course should be a minimum 7400 yards to compensate. As this is a video game you could bump that number up to 7500-7600 yards. I think "tricking up" the course means tees of 7800+ yards now.
