I'm going to look that up tonight Justin - cheers.
He's already walked back on that hasn't he cliffs? How long has the shutdown been going now? Hands up anyone here who could do without 2 pay packets in a row without getting into trouble?
Tbh 5billion is a very small amount of money in national terms, so the Dems are being a little truculent over it - but the Donald called the shot, so the pain those poor families are going through is definitely down to him - his approval ratings suggest that majority of people know this too.

I'm going to look that up tonight Justin - cheers. No problem, had kind of assumed most already knew about it, but it's definitely worth a watch. Here's the trailer:

Keep Clinton out of the picture, don't be afraid of challenging the political mainstream and talk about the daily struggles of the average worker. You'll be sure to claw back some territory. Trump is a challenge to the political mainstream. Everyone would tell you "he's not a politician". Be careful what you wish for, you could get bamboozled by a liar and end up with another Trump.

Trump was seen as a challenge to the political mainstream* He was always politically mainstream. Therein lies my point - he bamboozled millions of voters into thinking he was not. Tens of millions of voters. You can look back earlier in this thread and see his supporters here say it... and defend the notion he was not.

Logically thinking, Venezuela wouldn't have the food shortages it has if it wasn't for sanctions and uncooperative countries who against a redistribution of wealth to the poorer people of Venezuela. No country is on earth is self sufficient for food. So if there were no sanctions and a steady supply of food was entering into Venezuela, I don't see how Maduro would be unpopular. Even with how low things have gotten today in Venezuela. The average Venezuelan is still better off than they were before the Bolivarian revolution started, and that speaks volumes about how bad things were under a right wing government in Venezuela! I'd argue the USA can be self-sufficient for food. Hell, we pay farmers not to grow. Native Americans were totally self-sufficient off the land before the rest of the world showed up and violently took that same land from them.

I have no doubt that many countries can be self sufficient for food, but as it stands, non are. That creates massive insecurity, especially in a David (Venezuela) vs Goliath (USA) situation.

Then the food thing is a non-starter. Every country that could do so would do so if needed. The only real barrier is having access to enough land to produce the food. The VZ thing is such a deep mess and admittedly I'm not up to par on our affairs there but I do know this >> Trump certainly cannot help the situation there. He is an absolute antagonizer for all of the world's affairs. I also know that Trump has a giant hard-on for oil in other countries and VZ has a lot of it. If they can get their own corrupt government straight, they could parlay that oil towards a better outcome for themselves.

That's why Maduro is looking for alternatives, the petro Yuan and digital currency (bitcoin) being some. But the dollar is still THE dominant currency in the oil sector. Not sure what you mean by curruption, though...

Not sure what you mean by curruption, though... In any discussion of Venezuelan politics, you must be aware of this.

Maduro's party won all 545 seats in the election where he changed the constitution to give himself greater powers in 2017 - all sounds legit to me. Not even a whiff of totalitarianism
