And I'm not speaking about traditional "Conservatism." Traditional conservatives are a rarity nowadays. Perhaps I should have made that distinction in my original post, sorry about that. I'm talking about the new, modern Republican Party, which has today basically become the cult of Trump - a totally different animal from traditional Conservatism. Hell, I'm all for a few planks of traditional conservatism myself. Well that makes more sense. I agree with it on some level but there are good people that voted for Trump. Not everyone who supports him is burning crosses.

Participation trophies aside, why not just ignore him. As to images of your kids on the internet, not a smart idea ever but look at the source. Seriously, let's just have a complete blackout of Royce. Too much bitterness and immaturity to even bother with it.

Good points Paulus. Perhaps I am a bit jaded in that I live in the middle of a huge rural area that is filled to the rafters with enthusiastic Trump worshippers. I mean that literally - the man really COULD blow away someone on Fifth Avenue and they would still follow the man anywhere he went. That's actually one of the only true things Trump has ever said. After listening to just about everyone I know - family, friends, neighbors, acquaintances, co-workers, etc. - go on and on and on about how amazing Trump is, day after day after day for months and months - it definitely affects my perspective. If there ARE a lot of decent, kind, caring, enlightened, progressive Americans, they are far away from me.

Not everyone who supports him is burning crosses. You are absolutely correct. Sorry to lump every single right-winger into the same huge type of person. My own parents are a good example. I know them better than anyone, and I know they are deep-down very kind, caring, compassionate, good people (former Union members, my mother a teacher and my father an electrician), who once they had a lot of money in their later years after retirement (great investments, some good luck, promotions, etc.) and a steady diet of Fox and Limbaugh, now do nothing but parrot back everything that Fox and Trump say. My mom used to teach in a very poor part of town with mostly minority students, and she loved her students like her own children. Now she rants about "the damn blacks and Mexicans stealing all of my tax dollars" night and day, and avoids them when she sees them in public. Anyway. Point well taken.

Not much else you can do right? I don't think I'm doing much fighting though - just whining and b%&ing mostly. I need to move to a big city They seem to be generally more progressive.

Yeah my Mom is very pro Trump and watches a lot of Fox. I have gone at it a little with her about his lying and some stupid sh%$ he says almost on a daily basis which I cannot stand. It is sad that politics can tear families apart. I am not on facebook but my brother told me he had to block our cousin because he is crazy super anti trump.
Might not vote this time around. I really do not like either option. I guess I could vote for a independent if there is one.

I voted in 2016 just not for a President as neither candidate deserved my vote. Now having said that and if I could cry 20-20 hindsight or whatever. Knowing what I have know/seen about DT, I would have voted twice for Hillary.
I'm like Paul, my vote is still not going towards any candidate right now but I can guarantee it will never be for DT.

I really do not like either option. I guess I could vote for a independent if there is one. You're so right about that. The thing that is so scary is how divisive things are becoming now - you're right, families and friends are "taking sides" and not talking to each other now and becoming downright hostile to each other. All over Party, and all over Trump. In the past right and left could still co-exist and care for each other, and sometimes compromise about some things. Now it's black and white. I've lost a few friends over the fact that I am an unapologetic progressive (which they take to mean I am a "Democrat," which is not true), and a couple more over the fact that I am outspoken in my opposition to Trump. And I know others who are Trump supporters who say their "libtard" family or friends have stopped talking to them as well. One of my ex-employees is a huge Trump fan, and her husband apparently left her over that fact. It's insane. And it is not healthy. Nothing wrong with independent, if their stances mesh with yours (mostly). I've never felt any particular loyalty to a certain Party - I just vote for who best represents the ideals and values that I have, and if I feel I can trust them to follow through once they are elected, whether they have a D or R or I or a Klingon character after their name
