I attended the 2014 U.S. Open which happened to be at none other than Pinehurst #2. Fun time even though Martin Kaymer ran away with it on Thursday afternoon.
I played a practice round on the Thursday set-up last week and let me be the first (more like 1001st) to say that theclv24 has done an incredible job of recreating this real course. I can imagine it was a pretty tough recreation due to the uniqueness of the course. There were numerous times when I was playing where I could remember standing behind a tee box at a certain hole or sitting in a grandstand behind a green. You know you've nailed the recreation when you trigger memories of real life events! Well done, Craig.
That has got me pretty excited to play this tournament. Hopefully I can piece together four decent rounds. Would love to play well here.

I might have to join you guys here just for fun. One of the downfalls of loving designing and reviewing courses is never playing my own. I think it's been a few months for Pinehurst, so a good time to fire it up!

Cut number 4 of 5 this week !
Good God how am I so bad on the course I pick? Shot the lights out in the Ryder cup and hit -5 , -1 on a med firm course!!
It makes no sense .

Cut number 4 of 5 this week ! Good God how am I so bad on the course I pick? Shot the lights out in the Ryder cup and hit -5 , -1 on a med firm course!! It makes no sense . I'm having similar trouble myself. Do great in the practice rounds getting an idea of how the course and different pin locations are going to play. Tournament time?!! Well it's like I forget how to play golf!!!! Had high hopes for a good score this week shooting an average -8 to -10 on each one in practice. But round 2 decided otherwise. So think I have my ticket for the missed cut club this week.

I got to say that I am getting a bit tired of the holes that are cut on the side of hills. I don't mind having greens where that have hills and slopes but the hole should be on somewhat level ground to either reward close approach shots or to allow for decent par putts. Just venting. Pay me no mind, obviously I had a bad round 1. And while I'm on it, why do these courses have radically changing winds from day to day?

Tired of these 500 yard par 4's on Web lately. We don't have a Tiger Woods 7 iron in the bag.

Hoofta boys. My first appearance in the web as a card holder. don't know how some of you are doing it. I did not play well yes, but I'd only give myself maybe 4 strokes more and I woulda been satisfied. Could not get anything close whatsoever. -4 -4 Think I missed my first cut. It Is a fun course though, so I hope by some miracle I made the cut.

-2 first round, just a stone cold putter. Couldn't drain a putt outside of literally five feet. On the plus side no bogeys.

RD 1: -9 (61). Par on the first three holes by just narrowly missing some birdie opportunities...then I went -10 in 12 holes I believe. Followed that with a bogey and two pars to end at -9. Barely missed a few that I definitely could see falling. Hit the pin on a par 3 on the first bounce and it ended up a few inches from the front of the cup (either #9 or 15, not sure). All in all, satisfied with the score. I know I already harped upon it earlier in this thread, but man, I freaking love me some RCR! Especially one that I've walked thoroughly around at.

Another really promising round going and then I must've ate a bad hot dog at the turn (the actual halfway house at #2 is after the par 4 8th hole). Only managed a couple birdies and a bogey after a nice front 9. A couple inches from being a spectacular round, but I will take the -8 given the last 3 tournaments the first round took me out of contention and put the cut first.
Just previewed round 2 and I'm greeted with 18 mph winds. Wow. Going to be a battle.

Embrace the challenge. I did embrace it, just not very well. I think there's been a lot of these very long par 4's the last few weeks in Web, not just here at Pinehurst. I sucked this week, oh well.
