Played this course in a matchplay earlier, its fantastic and a perfect course for Web. Kudos to whoever the current scheduler is, there's some tricky holes out there! Good luck all the Webber's and I hope to see you on Euro/PGA soon Fancy a tiny little demotion? Honestly I may join you considering how shitty I'm playing recently....

Just a word of warning to anyone that has not teed off yet, this course is possessed by some sort of spirit. I say this based on practice rounds where perfectly good shots are pushed into the deep rough by some unseen force causing double bogey. I am prepared for my tour rounds though. I shall sprinkle holy water on each tee box, chant " the power of Christ compels you " before I tee off on each hole so now I should finally go bogey free, what could possibly go wrong. First shot, straight down the centre of the fairway, take that evil spirits, second shot, middle of the green, sadly, it seems holy water does not help my putting, just a par. The wind, I mean evil spirits, nearly caused problems on two, I just about stayed on the fairway on my drive, and I just could not get close enough on approach, par number two. A badly judged tee shot put me far behind the hole on the third, I managed to two putt for a decent par. I need to up my game a little more though, at least give myself some sort of birdie chance. That chance did not come on the fourth where I again found myself to far behind the hole. I have been at least twenty feet away for each birdie putt, not good enough. I finally put one close enough on the fifth leaving just a six foot birdie putt, a huge relief to finally got a yellow number on the scorecard. I found the approach on six tricky to read with the direction of the wind and the uphill shot, I somehow got it right though, leaving a eight foot birdie putt which I made to go two under. Sadly on the seventh, I went back to over hitting and par followed. Two poor shots on the eight put me in trouble, my second shot was grabbed by the spirits and ended up in the rough next to a bunker in front of the green, I was still only fifty yards away, no logical reason I should not get it close, I did not find the green, a poor par, from now on, I am dipping my ball in holy water before each shot. It worked, I managed to close out the front nine with a birdie, not a great nine holes but at least I avoided the dreaded double bogey.
The tenth from what I can remember in practice is one of the most haunted holes on the course, none of my prevention methods worked here and into the rough I went, got no where near the green with my second shot so now I was playing for par. My flop shot was poor but my putt was straight so par was made. I think I really have angered the spirits now with my attempts to cleanse them from the course, my tee shot on eleven was again pushed into the rough, my shot from the rough barely went a hundred yards and my approach to the green just about made it, I got away with par but should be making birdie on the par fives. The twelfth was calm, the effort to destroy my round on eleven must have tired the spirits out, a good tee shot and putt brought my first birdie of the back nine. Thirteen found me yet again far behind the hole with a difficult downhill breaking putt, a good lag brought a safe par. I picked up my fifth birdie of the day on fourteen, the approach shot was not long but it was a distance that can catch me out so I was happy to put it within five feet and birdie. Fifteen brought another birdie, my tee shot was not great, left myself about fifteen feet but a good putt saw the ball head to the centre of the cup. The three birdies over the last four holes lulled me into a false sense of security. My second shot on sixteen went right, missed the green and back to the rough I went. My chip shot came off the club face like the devil himself was chasing my ball and my putts avoided the hole as if it was a gateway to hell, there it was, the double bogey. Damn you Saxon spirits, damn you all. I could do no better than a par on seventeen before my tee shot on eighteen ended up in the rough by a bunker, I did not get much distance from the rough and when I finally got to the green, I was twenty four feet from the cup, I could not make that shot, another par on a par five and four under for the round.
That double was a killer and puts a lot of pressure on me for tomorrow.Another fine scampi course but for the love of God, please don't build your next course on ancient burial grounds. I just saw Moe in the club house blabbering incoherently, although, I am not really sure if he is speaking in tongues after being possessed or if that's just Moe after a few beers. I shall return tomorrow to do battle with the spirits of Saxony, and tomorrow I shall bring a genuine shard of the Holy Stone of Clonrichert, surely that will help me since it is now a class two relic. Have fun all.

great read hmammoth the evil spirits . I've no idea why I select scampi00 's courses they're cursed my putter had 29 putts round 1 and that was my second best round . On Grey Raven I had 112 putts for the comp (28 per round average) might beat that record this week haha. slightly panicked over the scores that are in I thought -15 would glide by the cut but maybe it'll be tighter than first appearances .

I think I've got the course record still for the original version but the chances of me repeating that are about the same as Newcastle winning the Premier league in the next 20 years. Good course, just hope I find enough form to make the cut. You've got to win the Championship first!
I always look forward to seeing Newcastle at Ashton Gate on the odd year we're in the same league - think the first time I saw your lot you had Bob Carolgees up front! (Not sure you're old enough to remember that reference?) It's a tasty little away trip too, always worth a B&B and a night out
I still haven't had the chance to play Saxony yet. Hope to get a practice round in tonight after work and then tee it up tomorrow morning. Sounds like we're going to need to putt well which doesn't bode well for me after last week - 33 putts in round 3!
Best of luck everyone!
Yep and that's going to be hard enough to do. You must be thinking of Mick Quinn our portly moustached striker Mick Quinn. He is a legend.
Yeah, it's always a popular away game!

Managed -15 for first 2 rounds. Hopefully will just squeeze me in. The last 2 rounds didn't go so well in more difficult conditions or so i thought. The highlight being my 4th round where i managed 2 Holes in 1 boom just boom Good luck guys

Yep, that's the fella! Don't see many like that anymore. Magic in his boots and a well stocked drinks cabinet

First round is probably my best since buying this game. The problem is I know I've got to make use of these receptive greens before the weekend because I'm yet to figure out firm and fast. I'm hoping this means I've found my Web feet (I'm not from Swindon). Good luck everybody yet to tee off! Cracking 1st round score Jamie, hope you kept it going. You need to tell me where you got your new putter. I could've had about 10 strokes less if my putter wasn't a lump of lead on the end of a bamboo cane ?

Thanks Hootbleet, funny how the putting goes. Horror show last week and then solid today, apart from a couple I got a bit tentative with and left short. Who knows which putter will find its way into my bag tomorrow?.. Really pleased with that start though, I feel like I've arrived at the party after just peeking through the windows for the last couple of weeks

Putting used to be the best part of my game. Think I need to be more forceful with them. Had quite a few just break off left or right, right on the hole. A little harder and they would've held their line.

I`m sitting at -14 after 2 rounds, I`ll be flirting with the cut line again I fear.
It was a tough go, because I truly felt like I played some of my best golf in round 2 since being back. But then I missed some pretty easy putts. Plus I had a real meltdown on a few shots where I didn`t hit 100%(not the games fault though...ALL ME!! Complete mental lapses!!)

This is my 7th event on Web and the first 6 were always a struggle to finish above the cut line. No doubt this week. I played an excellent first round. Good aproaches and good putting. Made a mistake on the 16th which I bogied. Ended on -13. The 2nd round went okay. My shots were a little more off compared to the first round. This resulted in more difficult birdie putts and therefore -8. 3rd round. Windy. Very windy. Shoud have stopped playing but just wanted to finish the tournament. Went to +3 and back to even. In the end the course won because a bogey on the 17th (i think) meant the total score is 73. This round will cost me a good position. I played a solid 4th round. I remember only the end score of -9. Best performance over 4 rounds since joining web.

Well after making the cut last week I waited till the last minute to get my rounds in. Big mistake. Stupidly thinking I had more time than I did, I missed the deadline. Damn Arizona time zone! So being in a crap mood why not start next weeks tourney, another mistake. 7 birdies and 2 eagles mixed in with 4 senseless bogies. The highlight being a 170yd eagle on a par 4, which now won't even play back properly on my saved replays! Grrrr! Angry golf is nobody's friend!

Well rounds 1 & 2 are done and....slightly disappointed to be honest. Winds kind of threw me off in round 1. Ball not acting the way I expected it to in the air, and was being cautious with my putts. -8 for the first. Second round was hoping to do better, I did but only a -9. So -17 after 2 rounds, and confident (for now) about making the cut. I was disappointed though because in my practice rounds on Wednesday and Thursday last week I was getting double digit scores even with fairly strong winds on both of those pin locations, but as seems to be the norm for me a lot lately, when it comes to the tournament itself my putting is letting me down.

R1: -9 R2: -12 R3: -4 R4: -5 ------ total: -30 Normaly I like fast and firm greens and windy conditions. But this time I had some problems with the approach shots. Very often the ball stopped on the wrong side of the hole resulting in difficult putts. Think I need more practice again. Maybe it could be enough for Top 20 but I've seen some really great scores out there already... Good luck!

So there I was in my hotel room last night, Slayer on the stereo, reading Stephen King while The Omen was on to in the background and I could not come up with a single new idea to defeat the evil spirits on round two. There was no where I could go to learn about the battle of good versus evil, no where I could learn how to defeat evil and bring them to the light. Fast forward to the next day and round two, I rubbed my lucky number of the beast tattoo and headed to the course and on the first hole found myself in the rough as my ball failed to reach the green, it started early today, I made par but I need to birdie as much as possible to make the cut so pars not much use to me. My biggest mistakes yesterday was leaving my ball to far behind the hole and that happened again on the second. My birdie putt was heading right for the cup when all of a sudden it seemed to be pushed right over the lip of the cup, the spirits had taken it up a notch, now there were messing with my putts, another par. I was left with just one option, I lured a unsuspecting challenge circuit player to the course with the promise of free food (amateurs, they will do anything for a meal) and sacrificed him to the spirits, I am sure no one will miss a cc player right. My tee shot on the third was again inaccurate but a good putt saw my first birdie of the day before another terrible approach took away any chance of picking up a shot on four. Its very disappointing that my approach shots are so poor as its normally a strong part of my game. I finally got a approach right on the fifth and my second birdie of the day followed, time to try push on. I did not push on, surprise surprise, my second shot on six was to long leaving a difficult downhill putt, I lagged close but another hole gone without picking up a shot. I was careful on seven, I made sure I did not play to long this time, I was to careful, I was short, my putt rolled over the edge of the cup, another par, another cc player needed. The eight hole went well, my second shot left me just short of the green with what looked like a straight chip and for once on Saxony, it went my way when my chip dropped for eagle, just what I needed. I took no risks on nine, even though it was tempting to go for the green in two, laying up was the better option, the right option as it lead to a tap in birdie and out of the blue, I was five under, sure there was blood on my hands but that can be washed off, I was not out of it just yet.
The back nine started with a good birdie. My approach was to long as usual but a good putt hit the centre of the cup for a positive start. Focus was the name of the game now, nothing stupid and try take any chance to comes my way. Yesterday, my tee shot took away any chance of birdie on eleven, today I made sure I hit the middle of the fairway. It was not possible for me to reach the green in to, so all temptation was removed which lead to my third shot being just a couple of feet from the cup and birdie, a positive start to the back nine. Distance wise, my tee shot on twelve was good but I found myself on the wrong side of the cup with a difficult putt. With no cc players nearby, I had to settle for par. I should have got back on track on thirteen, a poor approach found me behind the hole again and for the third time this round the lip of the cup played a part in a missed chance. Do you think anyone would miss a euro tour player? Might be to risky. I have no idea what happened on fourteen, my approach flew right over the green, I am sure I played the right club but my shot says different, a bogey and all hopes of making the cut go with it. A fantastic tee shot on fifteen left me with just three feet for birdie but it was hard to enjoy the shot after the previous hole. My approach on sixteen was also excellent but with no fresh sacrifices( seems cc players a bit wary of me) my putt just missed, another chance passes me by. The spirits were unhappy with the lack of blood and showed me how unhappy on seventeen, my approach was just three feet short, a guaranteed birdie, I three putted, over hit the first to try power through the break, under hit the second to try play the break, it was shockingly bad. I finished up missing another short putt on eighteen for a terrible six under.
I should have been five or six shots better off but I'm not. I should have have made the cut but I won't. A bad run of form for me at the moment but it's going to be fun trying to get out of it. That's for the future, today there is nothing to do but reflect and imagine my score if someone from the top ten in wgr had wandered onto the course, what a sacrifice that would have been, what a round I would have had, oh well, there's always next week.
