My mind is crap anymore. After reading your tips on the 18th i realized it was my 3rd shot that i came up short on. No matter just for my own clarification lol Will have a try at your left fairway today. I can do a pretty decent bannana hook lol I'll have a go also in friday pins. Mere curiosity The Friday set up in from alternate tee boxes (blues). This shortened the course up a bit but a few par 5's turned into par 4's. (par of 69) The weather is rain and fairways and greens are softer and slower. Was probably omitted because it was a par of 69. It is definitely a course that will play tough in higher winds....especially Sunday. For most people, Sunday will be damage control. Use the scout cam to look at the green slopes and where you might end up if your shot misses it mark or you misread the wind. As a general rule, play approach shots shorter than you think you need to. Most people will struggle and do a lot of scrambling on Sunday so don't get discouraged. There is a 2nd fairway a little left on 18. A shot to the right hand side of this fairway with the wind at your back may give you a shot at the green if you can bend it around the trees.

Grip that confidence you gained at Powderfinger tightly...Yuchi is about to rip your heart out. Toughest trek yet.

Jim, how the hell did you shoot -11 on this course? If I knew you'd think I'd be able to replicate it.

Took this for a test spin and shot 2 under. Once again, if I could putt my way out of a paper bag I would have done much better. Even though the greens were fast they didn't appear to be firm so you could pretty much shoot straight at the pin. Still, with the winds, I was always far enough away (anything over 5 feet) to miss, especially with the severe breaks of the greens. That's my only complaint. I had putts where I aimed a full two grids right and still landed left of the pin. IMO, that's excessive, but my opinion is worth about as much as a pencil eraser.
I can see the better players really tearing this course up, especially if they get close enough to the pin (for them under 10 ft.)
I expect the winning round to be somewhere in the 40 under range.

Here's to hoping I finish top 30 in PowderFinger and erase all strikes. Then if I blow it all too hell here then it won't hurt so bad. I've only played the Sunday setup twice, managed a -2 on my second go. Never hit the course today, quick round on the Abbey then went and did some Fallout.
At least we have two weeks preparation for this one, by the sounds of I will need it.

Well, I took the Sunday course for a spin and shot 5 over. You absolutely can't hold a green on this course. I had one lofted 5 iron that landed at the very front of the green (don't remember the hole) that rolled all the way to the back into the rough and the green had to be at least 50 yards deep if it was an inch.
I'm thinking of just withdrawing from this one and start up again in 2016.

The Saturday and Sunday pins are definitely tougher....you really need to spot hit and use the roll out to your advantage to score well. This one is gonna separate the men from the boys for sure. It's gonna be a tough trek...don't think we see scores anywhere near Powderfinger. If you can come in around 20 under you could have a very good shot at a top 10. I'll be happy with 4 rounds in the 60's. Aim to shoot low on the 2 Thursday pin rounds and hang on for Saturday and Sunday.

Don't jump the gun on the w/d. Tournament isn't starting until Dec28'th, so you have a couple weeks to refine yourself on the course. My 1'st play (sun setup) it wasn't so great, wound up even, 2'nd time -2. Only two times I've played it, I know I can get myself down a bit with practice. Have yet to try the Thursday and other one. Play the greens short, they are fast so the ball will roll out, and loft the hell out of your club to try and stop the roll out a bit. Well, I took the Sunday course for a spin and shot 5 over. Just noticed the tourney isn't until the weekend after Christmas....wonder if there will be a Christmas tournament at all? A winter theme could be fun.

I think they are officially taking a week off and letting us setup our own little tournaments. Wish they used the api for them though. p.s/edit I'm downloading the update on the PS4 at the moment to see what all the hubbub is all about, seems they screwed up the swing again lol tgctours.proboards.com/thread/6043/christmas-week-fun-eventsJust noticed the tourney isn't until the weekend after Christmas....wonder if there will be a Christmas tournament at all? Yeah, I'm done. Hole 13 is impossible.
I'm gonna take a break until the New Year and just do a lot of practicing as this course is just going to frustrate the hell out of me.

Sorry you didn't enjoy the course. For the island green 13th. With no wind...you can max loft a 3 iron and land on the front the green and roll pin high on courses that play firm and fast, learning to loft your shots will keep you on the greens. Here a link to the chart if you haven't seen it. link

Here a link to the chart if you haven't seen it. linkNo wind doesn't happen. I've tried two approaches to the hole. One, dead on trying to hit the front of the green and the other, coming at it from the far right and trying to draw it towards the pin as if I was shooting at it from the East. Both were dismal failures resulting in the ball ending up rolling into the trap. The other holes I'm starting to get a feel for (I've taken 4 shots at this setup) but 13 has me totally stumped. At best, I can shoot 1 or 2 over. In brutal winds I'm looking at 5 to 7 over. Compared to how bad I used to be on courses like these (anywhere from 10 to 15 over) I'm much better, but it's pointless coming into this shooting +8 to 10 for the 4 rounds at best and ending up at the bottom of the pack with another demotion strike. Might as well just skip it and start in January. As for not enjoying the course, trust me, I've played on much worse. In fact, it's only the firm greens on Sunday that give me fits. Thursday is fine and can probably break par. But the firmness on Sunday's is ridiculous, IMO of course.

One last thing. I looked at the loft chart. What does loft 4 mean? The numbers have no meaning to me.

"Loft 4" means setting the loft of your shot 4 grid lines north of the center (all the way up).
A 3I from the fairway, lofted 4 grid lines will travel 147 yards before it lands.
If you need to stop the ball quicker, take more club and use greater loft. A 3I lofted to halfway between the first and second grid lines will carry the same distance as a 4I with no loft adjustments. The lofted 3I will land softer and have less roll out.
