For those on the fence about joining, let me say this...If you want to improve as a designer then sign up. I credit the par 3 contest I participated in way back when for making me a better designer. I didn't come anywhere close to winning that contest. I finished closer to the bottom than the top if I remember correctly, but it pushed me to improve my thought process and technical ability to another level. I can honestly say that for every contest I've entered I found the experience much more rewarding than the result.

I'm debating it as I've kind of always wanted to make a course and it looks like this is my last real chance to do it. On the other hand I have all of two or three hours of experience in the designer and in all likelihood this would be a one-and-done for me if I even manage to get anything that I'm happy with finished.
Here's what I'll do. Leave me as a maybe if you need some extra people to fill out the brackets at the end. I'll fiddle around in the designer over the next couple weeks until then and see what I can do. If I get overwhelmed by it all or you get enough people signed up, I'll be out and no hard feelings either way.

Posting just to openly hem and haw about this. Literally JUST said I didn't want to do another contest because I didn't want to be rushed, but dammit this seems like fun. Love seeing all designers come together. To complicate matters further, we just sold our house and are moving for Nov 30th...so that is a lovely wrench in the proceedings. I've been working hard on a follow up to Selke Park though, have 9 holes mostly done. I'll follow along for the next week and can re-evaluate closer to if it's possible to get it done. Either way, I'm excited to see what comes of this.

as long as i aint finishing last to a popular vote, count me in. i have no saved work, because i deleted it all the other day, so ill be coming from scratch
for seeding purposes: 193 official publishes, but most of that is various versions of courses, so lets do it this way, 10 courses have been used on tour here at TGCTours, 66+K total plays from all courses combined.

Any particular theme or themes that are perhaps easier to work with for a beginner? Something that can still look good without having to use some of the more advanced level design tools.

Any particular theme or themes that are perhaps easier to work with for a beginner? Something that can still look good without having to use some of the more advanced level design tools. Boreal or Rustic would be my personal recommendations. Tropical isn't bad either, but people seem to either love it or hate it. Others will suggest Highlands, and it can be a good one as well as long as it fits your ideas. I would personally avoid Desert and Delta as a new designer. Both of those themes require a bit more in the way of planting and sculpting to make them shine, and both can be rather limited in choices for planting when the time comes. My advice would be to give thought to a concept. Think about how you want the course to look, where it might be located, a "style" you want to use with bunkers and such. Once you have a concept or vision in mind one of the themes should just jump out at you.

Looks like this is going to be a good one....Lots of good designers jumping into the mix makes for an interesting contest. Can't wait to see these courses when this is all said and done.
