Goal of breaking par for each round complete! Surely you have a tougher alternative to Harbor Island Black? It was the easiest one by far.
-5 Arizona Gold Diamond -3 Black Widow -6 Greenhorn Valley -6 Sunday Course of Course... -13 Harbor Island Black - Champio... -2 RollingRock EverBlades - Cha... -35 Total
Gotta love this crater in the side of the green:

6 under through two. If you want to see a circus round, load up my ghost ball for the second round. I was +5 through 12 and feeling like I wanted to rage quit. Stopped caring and thinking so much about my shots and went 5-under in the last 6 holes. Some of the shots I was making were ridiculous.

I've played black widow a handful of times in the past and I don't think I've ever broken par. What a punishing course! Five under in the last six holes has to be a combination of great play and great luck as well. Way to not rage quit. =)

I finished -30. A couple of things I realized while playing these courses. I really don't enjoy firm/fast setups, especially when you have a long iron into a green with the pin 3 yards from the front. Some of these par 3s are just silly. I'm not a fan of playing for chips and flops, but you have no other choice at times and it isn't a lot of fun. I also realized if I see a couple of these come up in an event, that I'll be crossing over that week! Blah, once is enough for me on a couple of these setups.
Beautiful courses to look at. The design skill is certainly evident throughout. Here's to hoping TGC2 will expand our best designers abilities without having to protect a course with firm/fast.

All of those courses have other versions with easier settings, that why this tour is called "elite" wasn't meant to be relaxing or realistic. Some players just like the challenge these provide, and that's why I add these versions in the mix.

On some holes par is the goal and birdie is a long shot. Once you accept those terms, as I have from playing tastes courses for two years, then you enjoy it a lot more.

I credit the black widow for improving my game.
Having said that, I recall when it was first released how hard I worked to break par, how many countless hours and dozens of restarts it took to break par, which I finally did.
Today, even with a 3 putt from a foot for a double in the mix, I casually shoot -4. Has the game changed, have I got better, who knows but it certainly no longer presents the same challenge it did when it was first released.
The thing I like about tastegw and his firm setups, often there is a shot at the pin, but seldom can it be made. This is what bugs me about some of the firm set-ups, taking away the shot at the pin. I enjoy a good challenge as much as the next guy, however when I miss, I miss, but if I can feel there was shot there and I miss, that does not bug me in the slightest, I'll just try harder next time. But giving no shot, hole after hole and requiring constant flops to save par, I'd rather play Pokemon.
For those that are struggling, go to play a round, and play the black widow and don't stop until you break par. Trust me your game will be elite level at that point for ever more.

Somehow months back I shot -9 there on PS4. I think I flopped in like 5-6x.
