This is one of those courses I seem to struggle with even in light winds so playing in strong winds was always going to be a struggle. And so it proved to be as soon as the first hole with a bogey. I scrambled a couple of pars before I got the dropped shot back on the fourth with a putt that just crept into the hole. I was groaning about a missed shot when the ball dropped, got a little bit lucky. Lost the shot again on the next hole through share stupidity. A long putt hit way to hard, a lag put would have been the smart way to go. A lip out on the sixth was annoying, nearly as annoying as the 5 minutes spent staring at the screen on the seventh. I just could not decide what approach to play, ride the wind over the water or try draw the ball against the wind. I went for the former, my wind riding skills need improving, I cleared the water easily, I also managed to clear the green, at least my par putt was easy. I finished the back nine with two pars and a headache, elevation changes, strong winds and not having enough fingers and toes for the maths!
Oh dear, hole ten, at least I played a good tee shot, after that, I read the wind wrong, my pitch wrong, my chip wrong and my putt wrong but at least I played a good tee shot! Three over par after ten. I finally played a hole well on the eleventh, missed my eagle putt but was grateful to putt a yellow number up, was this the beginning of my come back. If you can call four pars in a row a come back, then, yes it was on. A straightforward head wind on the sixteenth brought a hole that was easier to read and a birdie followed. A family member talking about tomatoes distracted me on the seventeenth, I got all confused then when John said I was heading for the cabbage, it really messed up my mind, did not know if I was playing golf or farm simulator, double bogey was the result, three over, one to play and that's how it finished after a lip out on the last.
That was a battle but I guess the real battle starts now, I am going to need to improve to avoid strike three. I was lucky to finish three over, I played worse then that score. Fingers crossed that I can give myself more chances the next couple of rounds. No matter what happens, I am going to have fun trying, good luck all.

Shot a 66 first round and was very surprised to see you write about struggling with this one! Oh well some courses just don't click with some people. Like the previous two didn't click with me!!

66 is a real good score in those conditions, well played. I don't know why I never got a handle on this course, I have played it so many times in different conditions and keep getting it wrong. Still three rounds left to figure it out. You are right about some courses suiting more than others. I think we all have a one or two courses we always play well on or badly on. Good luck with the rest of the tournament.

Opened 66-70. The wind direction in these first two rounds definitely made this course challenging. Doesn't help when the putter isn't working -- had birdie putts on the first three holes that all slipped by the edge. Two more lipped out later. Completely blew the round, which should have been 67 easy.
Gonna regroup mentally before the final two. Good luck all -- anything better than -20 for the tournament will be a real nice score for anyone.

How about that 18th hole eh! Man...I was so lucky to par it. I saw a ghost ball attempt to get there in 2 and made it up to the elevated area but just barely and in the rough. Since I was in the same spot basically I tried as well but took a little off with low loft thinking it may help hitting into those 15 mph winds....NOPE! Hit the front of the elevated green and landed on the side basically. Then tried to flop it up to the green on my 3rd shot and failed so miserably; the ball went one foot because of my lie but bounced back a bit from the hill and landed in the rough. Then hit my 4th shot up to the green with a flop and left a makeable 10 or so footer which BARELY fell into the cup! Definitely not gonna try to drive that green in two again if I am faced with those winds! What a nasty elevated green!

Yeah, there is no way to comfortably get there with a wind of 12 mph-plus in your face.

Well, finished my final two rounds. For the tournament:
66-70-63-67 = -22
Second straight week I couldn't take advantage of mild winds in the final round -- although those were some tough pins (as they should be in the final round).
I warmed up to this course this week and thought it played totally fair. Good challenge.
Good luck to all with golf remaining!

Very nice finish, especially round 3!! I'm kicking myself for missing so many chances in that round. I'd say -22 gives you a good chance at top 10, but I really have no idea.

Thanks, Colin. Fingers crossed!
I'm kicking myself, too -- over the second round. My putter has gone a little cold the past two tournaments...

Another strong course with some serious design flaws. Hit my ball onto the bank on the 18th hole and could not hit the ball. Wouldn't let me hit backwards or forwards. Ball stayed stationary both directions until I putted it off the hill. Too bad. I was sitting at -2 as I was about to hit my approach shot and took a snowman.

Great score Steve and 2 strokes better than the target I set you! I would definitely expect that to be top 10. Dare I say top 5 and an exemption to Web?! It should be close but if it's not this week it won't be long. Well played again bud.

This could be a make or break round for me. If I play badly, it will be tough to avoid my last strike. I would really like to finish season one with out a demotion, if only I had made one more birdie last week, my strikes would have been gone but such is life. Let's see how I get on shall we. Gather in close children and I shall tell you a story about round two at Fraxinuss. It all started with a par, on the second hole a pretty good tee shot left me with a ten foot putt, it had a slight double break and we all know the solution to that don't we? Yes hit it right down the middle, one under after two. Back to even the next hole, my birdie putt refused outright to stop, I did not even hit it that hard but off the green it went. I found myself with a tricky long downhill eagle putt on the forth. The type of putt that scares the bejesus out of me, get it wrong and I was off the green again. I left it two feet short, happy to take the birdie. The next two holes were parred, I can not explain how I parred them, I just got lucky I guess, I played both holes badly. That luck ran out on the seventh when I found the water on my second shot, back down to even. I finished the front nine with birdie par, knowing the back nine is tougher, that might not be good enough.
My approach on the tenth was a 92 percent swing, my fault of course but not what I needed, I ended up with a fourteen foot par putt, I got the line spot on, I watched with relief as the ball headed towards the hole. I wont repeat what I said as the ball hopped over the hole to stop inches away on the other side, back to even par. I lost focus at this stage, the pressure got to me and I started trying to hard. I was going for shots that I should not have. I was putting the ball in the rough, in bunkers, anywhere except where I wanted to put it. Every hole stretched on for miles, the winds seemed to be a hurricane, the break lines seemed to be combining to form squiggly mazes. All in my head of course and how I only dropped one more shot on the back nine, I don't know. I guess there was still a little bit of battling me still in there. I managed to birdie the last to finish even but I think I need a miracle to stay in the cc-a now. I will be watching the leaderboard with baited breath, hoping that everyone that has not played yet is off on a luxury holiday somewhere enjoying themselves to much to play their rounds. I still have two rounds to play and as the Munster motto goes" to the brave and faithful, nothing is impossible"

Did something I rarely do, played my third round straight after my second. I shot a 65, I don't understand this game sometimes.
