Hey all. I submitted a course a month or so ago named 'Thistle Brook Golf Club'. I put a ton of work into it, probably 150 hours or more, and I felt like I was careful to follow the guidelines that were posted here on the forums. ( this post) However, it was declined almost immediately, almost as if it was declined on a technicality. I say this because I got the email saying it hadn't been accepted within minutes of my submission. I am just curious why the course got declined?
Thanks.

Hi pierogies , I just pulled up your course in PGA 2K23, and see that it only has 3 pin sets. A course needs to have 4 to be approved. That's why the rejection came as quickly as it did. See this video here, which was part of that post you linked to:

Hmm well I wish the post that stated the guidelines said that it required 4 pin sets, because that would have been a very easy fix for me to make prior to submitting it. Due to the technicality of this rejection, would I be able to resubmit it with a 4th pin? sroel908Hey all. I submitted a course a month or so ago named 'Thistle Brook Golf Club'. They usually don't take them, due to the sheer amount of courses that get submitted to the database. But since this is just missing a pin, they might be OK with it. b101mattf27catcherman22

I don't really have any strong opinions on it, but I think we've also done similar things in the past. Taking a quick look at the course, it's a pretty easy approve, but not close to tour worthy for me. I wouldn't object to this just getting an approve after the course is republished (no need for resubmission, we would just edit the existing submission), but it also doesn't matter a ton since it wouldn't host an event anyways. If the designer still wants to add a fourth pin set and republish, I'll edit the entry.

I'll admit I didn't design it to be a super challenging course, but outside of that, what is holding it back? I'll probably just hold off on a resubmitting this course and submit my next course, but it would help to know what I am missing that makes it not close to tour worthy.
Thanks.

Just popped in for some entertainment but seems this thread has been a little tame of late.
Please can I request that all designers who have courses rejected vehemently defend their creations and die on the hill about their very intentional unintentional blindness.
Many thanks in advance

Apologies if the wording came off a little harsh, I just meant it's squarely in the middle of "approve" territory for me. It's far past "not approve" territory but not really into "tour worthy" territory either. This course doesn't do any one thing wrong per se. It's a competently constructed, functional golf course (there's a couple technical hiccups like oddly sculpted bunkers, green/fairway slopes that run off in ways I don't think you intended, but those are minor) but also doesn't really go above and beyond either, specifically in terms of playability. I didn't find any holes that were outright broken, but there were a few awkward concepts (I believe it's hole 2 that has a wide, shallow fairway with the forced 3w between two ponds), shots that alternate between being very easy and rather difficult, and some pin placement/scultping decisions that I wasn't quite following. It's definitely not a bad course by any means, but ultimately there's only so many tour spots and we want to fill them with the most engaging, interesting courses available. A scheduler is going to be looking for a technically sound course that can get an entire field of either skilled or unskilled players around without issue (depending on the tour) that asks interesting questions of the player and rewards those with skill and course management skills. If you haven't seen B101's tutorial videos on strategic design, it'll be a huge help to elevating your designs to that top level that we'd need for tour use. Hope this helps!

I’d prefer that to any constructive criticism!

Well I decided to do my first fictional course in the Meme Team contest so perhaps I can get a gentle fisting there before Dream Team next year… 🤣

Many thanks in advance They stopped posting all of the rejection reasons in this thread and now only do it on request. I "complained" about it when the standard was changed, smh how dare the reviewers not take the time out of their day to give me something to read at work /sGod I love petty drama when it doesn't involve me.

Absolutely! I went back to page 1 and started from there, there’s some excellent material. My favourite so far is the New England fiasco, it’s a beauty.
